1101  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: US Marshall's Bitcoin Auction Results on: July 03, 2014, 12:32:35 AM
Why are most of the losers keeping quiet about what price they bid at?

The don't want to look foolish?

Perhaps. But I also figured many of the prominent bidders already had considerable skin in this game. It would be in their interest, perhaps, to give the impression that the winning bids were considerably higher than theirs. Speculators gonna speculate. Smiley
1102  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many Bitcoins have been provably lost? At least ... on: July 03, 2014, 12:30:10 AM
just because coins are unredeemed does not mean they don't belong to anyone and no one has the right to take those coins.

I don't advocate reclaiming outputs but to be clear the ones I identified are invalid.  They will never be spent by anyone no matter how much time passes.  They are zombie coins, they remain unspent but also can never be spent and thus can never be pruned from the blockchain.

Can you point me to some resources about this? Still a bit of a newbie in this regard. Cheesy What makes an output provably invalid?
1103  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ...And we HAVE A NAME for the auction winner, folks. on: July 03, 2014, 12:28:14 AM
Draper could have presented himself a bit better in that press conference. Fix your hair and wear a tie that makes people take you seriously, LOL. Maybe take a public speaking class.... Grin
1104  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Idea for Site - Bitcoin Webcam on: July 02, 2014, 11:59:48 PM
Strip4bit and btccams are bitcoin-oriented cam sites. I have never tried them though. Bongacams and Classycams (and affiliate sites) accept bitcoins.
1105  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is it legal to trade on BTC-e? on: July 02, 2014, 11:58:08 PM
Purse.io has no kyc/aml and they operate in the USA as far as I know.

And they are awesome too. But ive always wondered...when it will disappear.

That's my main concern with all these wild west bitcoin businesses. I love BTCE and everything, but their KYC policies make me wonder the very same thing about them.
1106  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the minimum transaction time? on: July 02, 2014, 11:56:09 PM
I'm just curious on how long the transactions are done?  Huh

Transactions themselves are more or less instant. Confirmations, however, take ~10 minutes on average, and sometimes a single confirmation can take hours (rarely).
1107  Other / Off-topic / Re: How much you spend on the internet? on: July 02, 2014, 10:56:02 PM
Well, I'm on 8+ hours a day during the workday already. Can't really avoid that with work (and then I end up screwing around much of the day watching BTC charts and the forum). I try to keep it to a couple hours or less at night....
1108  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to buy bitcoins with VISA or PayPal? on: July 02, 2014, 10:53:53 PM
i think being able to pay with visa or paypal etc is important, sending moeny via international payments can be time consuming.

Sure, but one of the big issues is the prospect of chargebacks with such methods, in combination with higher processing costs. There are good reasons why these methods are not prominent with BTC exchanges and the like.
1109  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Im a beginner. on: July 02, 2014, 10:52:05 PM
Go to the alt-coin section.  But I think DOGE is profitable the most, I really dont know, I've stopped minning coins.

Ummm, DOGE is in its death throws in my opinion. I'd look into mining low difficulty coins that haven't been added to exchanges/pumped yet. DOGE is dangerous at this point....
1110  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is this the silkroad auction winners address? 29,656.51593736 BTC on: July 02, 2014, 10:50:50 PM

Anyone catch that press conference? Draper talked and looked like a complete buffoon. Someone should have told him to comb his hair, wear a presentable tie, and learn to speak in public..... that was PAINFUL.....
1111  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why bitcoin price jumped following the USMS auction on: July 02, 2014, 08:56:22 PM
Still nothing about the bid price..Why so much secrecy?

Privacy perhaps?

We'll see what he says at this press conference. I wonder if there are any terms around disclosure of the auction price. I'd love to know what price they went for....
1112  Economy / Speculation / Re: Tim Draper to Do Press Conference about Winning Silk Road Auction 2pm PST on: July 02, 2014, 08:55:08 PM
Hmmm, sounds like a pretty good pump opportunity. Could take a little bit to get baked into the price, though. Do you think he will disclose the bid price? Can he?

Yeah, it needs to be from the DefaultTrust list. However, I noticed that people with only one DefaultTrust positive feedback don't seem to get the green band.
1114  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Tips on increasing my TRUST level on bitcointalk? on: July 02, 2014, 08:32:07 PM
I think what he mean is How to get + trust rating green color line positive rating and how do bitcointalk determine the trust rating and turn it to green color .

I'm sure there is a thread that discusses this in Meta -- that's where forum information like this is. My assumption just from experience is that a certain number of positive trust from default trust members will give you "green" trust.
1115  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is it legal to trade on BTC-e? on: July 02, 2014, 08:14:23 PM
Considering that BTC-e is not overly concerned with KYC/AML, is it legal to trade there?

Unless laws in your jurisdiction make it illegal, then it should be fine. That would be unlikely. KYC/AML standards are to be implemented by the exchanges, not users, so the onus is not on you.

Now, whether no KYC/AML puts a target on BTCE's back is another question. Wink
1116  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: A serious professionally run Bitcoin Exchange on: July 02, 2014, 08:12:17 PM
There are exchanges than last longer than a year or two.

Just need to do your homework on who you should trust.

problem is they are not regulated.
I am looking forward to the next generation of US-based exchanges -- Bitlicensed and all. Smiley

are there effords on this, or are you just visualizing future?

Just visualizing really. There have been rumors, but nothing firm as far as I know. We know that NYS bitlicenses are for real, and Lawsky announced they are now accepting applications. But I don't know if the process is finalized, or what kind of red tape is involved.
1117  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: When Will Bitcoin Reach $1000?? on: July 02, 2014, 08:09:04 PM
Not sure whether or not we'll get there on this rally, but definitely this year. I'm undecided on whether or not we are still retracing in the bear market, or if this is truly the start of a new bull market. $700s will be telling.

I think it will be a much more difficult climb than last time. Good news used to move the price a ton... not anymore.

The thing about news, in my opinion, is that it tends to follow market sentiment -- it doesn't create it. So, in a bear market, good news tends to have little effect. In a bull market, much effect. I don't think we have confirmed the type of full-blown bull market where good news will be immediately reflected in price.
1118  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do You smoke? tobacco/weed on: July 02, 2014, 07:47:32 PM
I am from The Netherlands so I smoke alot of weed ofcourse.
And I also smoke tabacco but that is a bad habbit, I should quit.
What is your favorite kind of weed?
Mine is Amnesia Haze

I LOVE Amnesia Haze. I only got my hands on it one time -- had I known, I would have stocked up quite a bit more. This was last summer.

Old favorites are Haze (original landrace), Chem Dawg, Pure Kush, Cherry Pie (Durban/Purple/OG). We should start a weed strain thread. Smiley
1119  Other / Off-topic / Re: Should the government "erase" the student debt? on: July 02, 2014, 07:45:28 PM
I think it's a crime and injustice to all the people who worked hard to liquidate their debt. It's all those dumb-dumbs that studied theater in college.

That's quite the oversimplification. If you take a closer look at the job market, wages and opportunities have plummeted, benefits are being phased out en masse. When I graduated with BA and paralegal cert, I was competing with out-of-work lawyers for part-time legal support work. The preparation for middle class life that college was supposed to be is no more, and through perverse incentives, increasingly poor people are pushed towards education as subsidies drive the price up persistently.
