1141  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Online Wallet Scams (Post the names/urls of sites that may have scammed you!) on: June 29, 2014, 11:42:09 PM
I lost some at Instawallet, but AFAIK, that wasn't a scam and was a legit hack. I just didn't bother to recover my funds, since it was so little at the time. It was less then 0.1 BTC and they were not worth what they are now, so I didn't bother.
1142  Economy / Speculation / Re: Something, something, something, technical analysis on: June 29, 2014, 11:40:16 PM
The indicators and common sense all suggest that Bitcoin should correct a bit from here but my intuition says that that $615 target will be taken out and then some. B4 or after a correction I don't know, but I am finding it very difficult to get my heart behind the bearish cause at the moment.

I'm bullish -- soon -- but this last leg looks like a fakeout. I think we might correct down from here before approaching that target. Still looking for 580 level, unless I see a breakout up first.
1143  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 29, 2014, 11:28:49 PM
The 500 BTC wall has been there for like a day. Unless it was pulled in between the hours I checked, it never left. It's real and has been getting chewed on a bit. But it hasn't been pulled..... we'll see if anyone is willing to buy it.
1144  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Which Bitcoin Exchange do you use and why ? on: June 29, 2014, 11:01:48 PM
Iam not sure sometimes in Mt.Gox sometimes in btc-e and sometimes i sell to people.
Depending on the rate is different on each exchanger  Grin
But selling to the people is profitable  Cool

Sometimes on Mt Gox? Uhh, where have you been? Been a while since anyone could sell there. Wink

For the newbies -- don't send any BTC to your old Gox addresses. Apparently people are STILL making that mistake. Tongue

I hope he has only used mtgox long time ago before it went down. Tongue

Did you read about that guy recently who sent 800 BTC to an MT Gox address? Crazy stuff. You'd think someone would take a little bit more care when sending that amount of money.... Undecided
1145  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 29, 2014, 10:58:57 PM
That rise in the Chinese exchanges was almost predictable: now is 6:40 am in China, about the time when the first traders "wake up".  I have not checked statistically, but somehow I got the impression that the early-risers tend to be more bullish than average.  So the Chinese day tends to begin with a price rise, that may be reversed later.  But, again, this is only an impression.

I often get this impression as well when watching Huobi in their morning hours. Often we see a small pump, which fizzles out after a relatively short time, and often we see a reversal.... fakeout.
1146  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 29, 2014, 10:49:31 PM
When the stamp wall is gone and it passes $615 im satisfied.

When BTC-E gets beyond $605 im satisfied.

For now.. it's just a shitstorm that can go 3 ways. Up,down or sideways.

My thinking as well. Have not seen a clear breakout yet. We see so many fakeouts/whipsaws these days, I try not to get too excited over a $10 jump anymore. Like you said, up, down or sideways....
1147  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 29, 2014, 10:47:15 PM
Yep, another $10 move and no follow-through. We could very well get an up-leg, but this looks nothing like the start of some of the crazy pumps we've seen in the past few months. Might still just fizzle out and bleed down. Huobi did stop right at descending triangle top (short term).
1148  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 29, 2014, 10:38:35 PM
Action heating up a bit. Bid whale on BFX back to pumping. 500 ask still there on Stamp, slowly getting eaten but no real damage yet. Meanwhile, Huobi is still asleep and drove this with bots on no volume almost....
1149  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why are mobile phones so cheap these days? on: June 29, 2014, 10:19:47 PM
Mobile phone use growing en masse, cheaper manufacturing costs, planned obsolescence. Those pieces of crap they sell now aren't meant to last long, and you're supposed to buy another quite soon. Wink

This pretty much sums up most of Apple's doing. A.K.A, the 'everyone has to have' iPhone, where most of the phone is indeed glass, so you can spill your guts breaking it.

I agree with you. I remember my dad having a Nokia for almost a decade, and it only broke last year due to it's cards getting fried after he'd spilled liquids on it for the 100th time.

Personally, I am back to using the second phone I ever had, from 10 years ago, solid LG flip phone LOL. My phone broke recently and this thing has been through hell and back..... using it until I find a replacement. They don't make them like they used to.
1150  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why do scammers scam? on: June 29, 2014, 10:09:08 PM
Scam artists scam because there are still people who fall for their scams.

If there were no victims, there would be no scam artists.

Somehow I think these gullible people will always be with us, and so will the scams that follow them. And looking at this community sometimes, I feel it is somehow actually getting worse.... Undecided
1151  Other / Off-topic / Re: How much you have BTC??? on: June 29, 2014, 10:07:27 PM
how much you have bitcoin
i have 0.00118BTC

doesn't it feel better to say "1180 bits"?

Its to fool yourself that you have the potential to earn more? lol.

That's all I see. It's simply to fool yourself and/or others into believing that when they put their $$ in, they are getting more for it. Get over it, people, BTC is already a unit, and a widely accepted one at that.
1152  Economy / Speculation / Re: Use Log-scale Bitcoin charts everywhere! on: June 29, 2014, 10:04:56 PM
As much as I agree that log scale charts are the proper way to view Bitcoin price history, using it as a marketing tactic to dupe newcomers into buying up the price ranks up there with mBTC/bits (wherever the hell "bits" came from) and "place bids with sideline funds to create the appearance of support to push the price higher" as my biggest peeves in this community.

Glad there is still some sensible folk around here. Everybody seems so intent on finding ways to pump the price all the time. This whole BITS thing..... Undecided they literally want to dupe newbies into thinking they are getting more than they are.

No, bits (smaller units with a name that can be remembered by any layman) is needed to make prices of goods easier to read and understand, and to overcome the irrational fear of indivisible bitcoin. Has nothing to do with pumping or luring newbies. If all it takes for newbies to invest is to give them few gazillion of new shiny coins, then dogecoin would've been through the roof, but it's not, just jumping up a little Wink

Well, DOGE did shoot through the roof for a while before collapsing back down to reality. Wink

I'm not sure I understand why this is necessary to for laymen to understand/read/use, especially considering BTC has already achieved such acceptance as a unit.
Having a worthless currency is completely different from having a currency that is easier to use  Roll Eyes troll harder

Roll Eyes
Ummm.... ok. Clearly there were two things being talked about. 1) the fact that DOGE at one point was worth more than 5x what it was now, despite its massive supply and for no real fundamental reasons. Refer to Wink. 2) The question of bits, and whether it is necessary.

In no way were these things being compared. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
1153  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 29, 2014, 10:00:24 PM
Yeah..... I guess you and I have different priorities here. I can't imagine they could be come to worth 4x the value of a bitcoin -- after all, they are..... bitcoins -- but to each his own.

I imagine that by the time the sun is a red dwarf, if they are worth 1% more than 1 BTC, the gain in value is quite enormous.  That kind of wealth preservation is hard, very hard, to find.

The art market is quite volatile.  It's easy to make or lose a fortune on Cremonese violins or Faberge eggs.  Easy to lose, if you have a forced sale.  Easy to win, if you have infinite patience.
They may be worth more, but who would actually care enough to pay the premium?

That's what I'm thinking. At this point, if you're that bullish on bitcoin, you could put those extra $$ into buying more bitcoin. Seems pointless to me, but I've never been into collecting things so much.
1154  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 29, 2014, 09:41:55 PM
Look, you can market buy 3000 coins right now on Bitfinex with a top price of $632. Remind me again why someone would pay $1800 for a single lot?

You will find out on Tuesday when EBay auctions off 3000 genuine, U.S. certified, Silk Road (TM) Bitcoins as collectibles for $2400 each.  A critical cultural artifact, a piece of history, which will retain elevated value even after the sun becomes a red dwarf.

I know that I would be tempted to pay 4 BTC for such an artifact.  Ideally, one which is tracable by the shortest possible path to the earliest possible block reward.

Yeah..... I guess you and I have different priorities here. I can't imagine they could be come to worth 4x the value of a bitcoin -- after all, they are..... bitcoins -- but to each his own.
1155  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: US Marshall's Bitcoin Auction Results on: June 29, 2014, 09:40:00 PM
Bah.. I came back here for an update hoping for real content, but so far nothing. Really, we can just get rid of these first 5 pages. If results are to be released, what time and timezone would it be?

I can't find it now, and I'm not sure if I was given accurate information. But I remember hearing that winners would be notified sometime Monday, Eastern Time. May have been by 6pm..... but I really don't think we will get results through any official channels anyway.

^^ Rave Archive is awesome for those that don't know. Lots of old school house/jungle/techno. Anyway, currently listening to "Rise", one of my favorite mixtapes from Jeno, bay area legend. Smiley
1157  Economy / Speculation / Re: Argentina heading for a repeat of 2001 collapse on: June 29, 2014, 09:23:01 PM
So people think this might cause a Cypress-like price rise like we saw in early 2013? Personally, I think the effect of that event was quite overplayed, and I think people's expectations for BTC that are based on economic turmoil may not be met in the future. But we'll see. Smiley
1158  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 29, 2014, 09:20:51 PM

Maybe -- I think the auction in the first place was a good chance to FUD the price down. Smiley Now we recover and then some. When you get past the miniscule amount of coins at stake here, the auction news is quite bullish. Government stamp of approval, whale investors and all that.

we will likely know the price if it is high, we will not know the price if it is low unless it is leaked.

and being so confident about a bull run because it is over is not the best position to be in IMHO

The courts will sell the other 100k+ coins eventually and we do this all over again. We are in the dark ages of Bitcoin right now. We haven't hit the age of enlightenment yet. I think it is q3 next year before we see serious positive developments.

I am only holding though Smiley

On the short term I am actually bearish. Price action is sleeping right now though. Tempted to get my coins back with small profit now, but I think we could dip to the 570-580 area before the auction is no longer hanging over our heads. I don't know about a big bull run, but I see some upside here.
