1421  Other / Off-topic / Re: Looking for donations to help poor Pirate@40 defend himself against the SEC. on: June 08, 2014, 11:49:01 PM
"anyone exchanging bitcoin could be SELLING SECURITIES" -- Isn't the only reason the SEC is involved that it was a ponzi scheme? He was selling shares/securities, not bitcoin.

That's true, it was a Ponzi scheme but his attorney may present the idea that Bitcoin itself acts as a security.

I am pretty sure the definition of "security" means that it is backed by some kind of asset (by contract). Bitcoin isn't backed by anything, certainly not legally. That's a pretty far stretch to make, IMO.
1422  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to get money? on: June 08, 2014, 11:47:53 PM
Thanks for the insights.. but honestly is there a much more simple way.

What if I cant get a part time job at the moment.

It's just like real life -- no one wants to give something for nothing. You need to find a good or service to sell, or roll fiat income into BTC, basically. Even faucets are run on ad revenue. So it's not for free.
1423  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000 when? on: June 08, 2014, 11:46:24 PM
If I were going to pull a time out of nowhere, I would estimate sometime in 2015. Late 2015, most likely. I think we will see a bull run this year, but do not expect $10k. Then more bear market consolidation, then maybe we take a run at it in 2015.
1424  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is BitCoin faucets really worth the time? on: June 08, 2014, 11:44:57 PM
I have discovered Bitcoin (and cryptocurrencies in general) at the beginning of this year. A friend told me about it. At first I've tried all kind of faucets, but, I clould not stand to keep doing the same thing again and again, just to receive a few USD cents. Then I've decided to simply buy BTC, and it was really worth it.

The mentality is certainly understandable. Personally, I can't bother with faucets. I've been trading, and have seen BTC gains too large to go back to slaving away clicking for satoshis.
1425  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Safest wallet on: June 08, 2014, 11:43:44 PM
Just want to ask which wallet is the safest to store my BTC on? Smiley

Any suggestions, please.

If your wallet is offline, they are all quite safe. If your wallet is online, then your bitcoins could possibly be stolen. Electrum is a bit less private due to its unique system of nodes, but private keys are encrypted.
1426  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who wishes they had bought bitcoin when it was $540 or so? on: June 08, 2014, 11:42:23 PM
I did buy a tiny bit at 540.
I regreted it because it went down afterwards.
But I'm happy I didn't sell, because I would have missed the bottom most certainly.
Hodling!

So, out of curiosity, when will you sell? You're sitting on some nice gains right now. You holding out for $1000? $10k? $1 million? Just curious what some of the hodlers are eyeing for a sell price. Tongue

Minimum $60,000 - yes, I know it may never happen Smiley

I'm always going to be selling here and buying there. Never 100% out of course. But I can't resist locking in some gains. Personally, I think we will see 5 figures, but everything is still so speculative at this point.
1427  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 08, 2014, 11:40:32 PM
light blue uptrend indeed invalidated. We are on the new dark blue uptrend. We followed the downtrend for a brief moment, but I think we will try to keep the exchange rate in the "black band". Thoughts?

Well, I'm long from $638 and added a bit of margin long at $645... so I'm certainly hoping you are right. I've been expecting a breakout back to the $680 zone for a couple days now.
1428  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin is property....but taxable? on: June 08, 2014, 11:38:28 PM
The recordkeeping that may be required to trade against fiat is pretty arduous. I prefer to trade crypto-to-crypto, with my position being that there is no "gain" made until I transact to fiat.
1429  Economy / Economics / Re: Is 1 bitcoin a decent and good investment? on: June 08, 2014, 11:37:02 PM
I think it is a good time to invest, indicators seem to say it will go up soon.
And if it's all he can invest, then that's the right amount to invest Smiley

What indicators? Do you have a chart to share? Could go either way, in my opinion, but this triangle consolidation does seem to have a slightly upwards bias...
1430  Economy / Economics / Re: So whatever happened with Mt. Gox? on: June 08, 2014, 11:35:55 PM
Anyhow -  if they have 200000 btc they HAVE to give them to the customers.
Maybe give each one around 1/3 of what they had?

That's not how bankruptcy works. First, 200k is 1/4 of the BTC liability. Tongue  But it is a long process, and the court administrator/trustee may opt to liquidate the bitcoin and pay out fiat. Then there could be other creditors that come before traders.
1431  Economy / Economics / Re: Do you think China will completely BAN bitcoin? on: June 08, 2014, 11:34:31 PM
yes china will ban bitcoin completely soon

How can you say that, any secrets we don't know?

I can understand the mentality. We have seen months and months of bad news from the PBOC, and what they will do next is very unclear. But nothing is set in stone.
1432  Economy / Economics / Re: Facebook accepts Bitcoin? on: June 08, 2014, 11:33:28 PM
I could see Facebook coming to accept bitcoin in exchange for their own credits. I mean, why not? Payment processing is cheap, and they get another niche of customers who otherwise would not pay. Win/win.

This would make much more sense that having they credits. I imagine many people would join with bitcoin that wouldn't do so with the current system, just because it's weird to have credits that are only valid for one website.

But Facebook wants you to have credits stuck on their site. Just like businesses want you stuck with their gift cards, rather than cash that can be spent anywhere. It's guaranteed business.
1433  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you really believe that Bitcoin will hit 1,000,000 on: June 08, 2014, 11:31:58 PM
It's hard to say exactly when the pendulum will swing the other way. For now, I am in the mid-long term "up up up" camp. But I could easily see the tippity top being in the 5 or 6 figures, and not making it to a million.
1434  Economy / Speculation / Re: Where is the weekend rally? on: June 08, 2014, 11:28:23 PM
As someone else said: take matters in your own hands people!
Buy btc! Make it go up!  Grin

All I know is, it's not up to the bitcoiners and the forum users. At some point, we're gonna need a good deal of "new", "fresh" money from people who have never been involved with bitcoin before, if price is really going to sustainably rise.
1435  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who wishes they had bought bitcoin when it was $540 or so? on: June 08, 2014, 11:27:03 PM

1436  Economy / Speculation / Re: I AM BYUING! on: June 08, 2014, 11:25:44 PM
Who exactly 'coined' the term hodling & when? Was it originally a spelling mistake?

It was a thread in this subforum. Price was dropping hard I think, and the guy was (maybe?) drunk, and it just sort of caught on. I kind of wish it didn't....
1437  Economy / Speculation / Re: 50% increase and everyone thinks 10k (again) on: June 08, 2014, 11:23:47 PM
But the difference is that this price climb has been far more stable than last years bull run. A sign of things to come perhaps?

Has it been? (Honest question) I was around for the July rise, and the November bubble, but I'm not sure if this feels more or less stable, to be honest. Felt pretty fast, the rise from $440.
1438  Economy / Economics / Re: Economist: U.S. Banks Preparing to Charge Customers For Deposits on: June 08, 2014, 11:22:21 PM
Another one of you guys? Really? You know Alex Jones ate paint chips a child.

True. Is there any validity to this at all, though? It's a pretty scary thought. I've been trying to keep a decent amount of money in silver, gold and bitcoin in case shit hits the proverbial fan.
1439  Economy / Speculation / Re: I AM BYUING! on: June 08, 2014, 11:20:59 PM
Somehow I don't think "BYUING" will catch on the same way "HODLING" did. But nice try. Not the strongest argument I've ever seen, OP, but I'm more or less with you.
1440  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to get money? on: June 08, 2014, 11:12:55 PM
I feel I'm missing out and should be buying much more btc!
But I have no spare cash.

Any ideas? How to get some money? I already have a part time job while studying.

Do you have anything to sell? You could sell some goods/used stuff/etc in the marketplace here. I see you are already doing signature advertising for PrimeDice, so that's a good start.

Not much really, unfortunately.
No car, no own house...
It just occurred to me to start a translations for btc service! But then I've seen it's already being done by so many folks... Oh well, might give it a shot anyways!

Sure, I would definitely give it a shot. No reason not to. You may also consider doing it on fiat-facing websites and putting the returns into BTC as well.
