Just a quick question:

Are posts in the off-topic forum included or excluded when earning from a sig campaign?

I can't say for sure for all of them, but generally, they are included. I have heard of people being banned for spamming when posting too much in Off-Topic, so be careful, LOL. Smiley
1042  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Big loss on: July 06, 2014, 07:53:06 AM
I don't see the point of selling at a loss right now. Just hold onto them and I'm sure they'll see a rise sometime soon. They'll probably have a spike the next time Bitcoin does.

There are no guarantees, but I tend to think it will go down like it did November 2013. Everyone was talking about LTC's death back then too (and all the alts for that matter). Then BOOM, they all outperformed BTC by huge margins near the top of the bubble.
1043  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Exchanges and Privacy? KYC? on: July 06, 2014, 06:51:32 AM
If you are only sending coins in and out (no fiat deposit/withdrawal), then BTCE and Bitfinex are options that don't require verification. Stamp, I believe, requires verification to withdraw bitcoins.
1044  Economy / Economics / Re: Please stop with mBTC, microBTC, ...! on: July 06, 2014, 06:47:18 AM
It all just seems unnecessary, and tied to pegging BTC to the value of fiat. Why? Maybe it's because I'll always count my bitcoins in whole numbers, being somewhat of an early adopter. I don't price things (fiat value) in cents, either -- I use dollars...
1045  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When mBTC will become the default denomination on: July 06, 2014, 06:41:40 AM
It seems quite obvious that once mBTC is equal to a dollar bill in value, it will then become natural to discuss bitcoin amounts in mBTC rather than BTC.

When? Hopefully never. I don't see this as natural at all -- I don't peg BTC to USD value -- and I think you will find a lot of resistance in establishing that consensus. Personally, I prefer to use BTC, with no prefix necessary.
1046  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you USE your BTC? on: July 06, 2014, 06:38:51 AM
i can't help but spend it. wish i could save more... Roll Eyes

Haha, same problem here. I took out a few times my initial investment during the last bubble, and sent most to cold storage. The rest is being widdled down from spending as I'm not really trying to scalp this sideways market...
1047  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000 when? on: July 06, 2014, 05:11:58 AM
I think ebay and a big retailer like amazon would be needed for bitcoin to reach 10,000. 2000-5000 may be more likely, and that could be a year or two. It may also never get more than 1000 again, we don't know.

It's hard to say what is needed, really. If we were to see ETFs, a lot of institutional money that would never otherwise flow into BTC could get in. These types of investment firms have billions in holdings. Imagine..... Tongue

That too, I forgot about the EFTs. What I wonder about is if it'll drag alt prices along with it, or if bitcoin will go crazy while alts go down. It's weird to think of coins like litecoin or darkcoin being worth several hundred or more per coin, but if bitcoin is 10,000 and alts keep pace, that's about where they may be.

Hard to say, really. It might be come time that the wheat gets cut from the chaff for a lot of altcoins. We could see similar action to the late 2013 bubble, where alts were suppressed more and more, until they saw huge rallies near the top of the BTC/USD bubble.
1048  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 06, 2014, 04:19:15 AM
Slow steady grind to 1k?

Not sure about $1k. I think we'll see an explosive movement into the $700s, though. There's some big resistances in that area, I think. If we can break it convincingly, I could see $1k, but not before we are rallying strongly above $800.
1049  Economy / Speculation / Re: Has technical analysis been thoroughly debunked in the bitcoin community yet? on: July 06, 2014, 04:17:32 AM
Has technical analysis been thoroughly debunked in the bitcoin community yet?

Yes.

Or are there a lot of people still following technical indicators and such.

Yes.

Of the people who still choose to follow technical analysis, what's popular in bitcoin? What are people using?

The usual stuff- MACD, Elliot waves, etc.

Interesting. Can you point me to some resources that show TA has been thoroughly debunked? That, I would like to see. Sounds more like the usual TA bashing you tend to see on this forum. To each his own, I guess. TA has done me well -- well enough that I can now play with pure profit.
1050  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Getting paid for signature space? on: July 06, 2014, 04:14:43 AM
The rankings are structured this way (IMO) at least partly to allow for people to get to understand how bitcoin works prior to earning a higher rank.

I think it was more so a direct response to signature advertising programs -- which is why activity is linked to signature permissions (font size, colors, links, etc). Spam ties into this as well.

you will always have rare stories of robberies with p2p deals (same with craigslist). i have never had a problem doing in-person deals on localbitcoins, and it doesn't seem like things like that happen too often. +1 on public meeting places.
CL and LBC are both dangerous when meeting a stranger in person. You should always meet in a very public place with lots of potential witnesses.

I have never personally been robbed but have dealt with a few very sketchy people.

I've used CL and LBC loads of times. Never had any problems. Of course you hear of horror stories here and there. When large amounts of money are involved, certainly meet in a public place. There is really no reason NOT to meet in public with a bitcoin transfer. But I've sold some furniture and stuff out of my house on CL. Smiley
1053  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000 when? on: July 06, 2014, 03:48:35 AM
maybe this year, maybe next. maybe never. bitcoin will always surprise -- both directions. i wouldnt be surprised to see it plunge to sub-$50, and go back up over $1000, then onto $10,000. vice versa. you never know. hard to predict this market. Cheesy
I would expect that bitcoin would reach 10k the next time we have a "bubble"

That's possible. But we've also (%-wise) been seeing increasingly less volatile bubbles, so it's certainly possible in my mind that the next one tops out at $4000 or $5000. If we get one. Never know. Smiley
1054  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Earning Bitcoins on: July 06, 2014, 03:46:10 AM
Faucet it is really dont worth your time, but some are my favourite, it really dont takes a lot of time and convenience and easy to use for newbie like me
just for fun

Yeah -- just for fun. Not really for "earning bitcoins." Tongue If you don't have fiat money to put into bitcoin, look into things you can sell to raise capital. Get a part-time job and put some of your paycheck into it. Sell services online, in the forum marketplace. Sell signature space. Tongue
1055  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 06, 2014, 03:42:16 AM
The breakout doesn't look super strong, but it could still materialize. If not, I think at worst Huobi will retest its lows before we launch. Bullish divergence everywhere, the whales can't keep spending so much coin driving price down so little. Some fiat whales are gonna squeeze them.
1056  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Getting paid for signature space? on: July 06, 2014, 03:37:29 AM
It seems like I`m so far away.. from getting any btc going on lol.

Faucets suck too.

Yeah, faucets won't get you too far. As far as signature ads, there are accounts being bought/sold in the digital goods subforum. It's sort of frowned upon, but I get the feeling that more than a few newbies have gone that route.

I wouldn't suggest newbies to buy a "higher rank" account at all.
The account seller could get the accounts back at any time in the future (FYI: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=497545.0), and also the account could get negative trust and become worthless if the account sale is made public.

I wasn't really suggesting anything. Just pointing out that it's done and that it's frowned upon. But it is allowed. It does take a certain level of trust in the account seller since, yes, they can recover the account by signing a transaction from an address linked to the account. But they won't get very far selling accounts that way.
It doesn't even take that long to "earn" your way up to member status anyway, and in the time you spend getting your rank up there you can learn a lot by reading these forums.

Well, it does take some time. 2 months, I believe, since you can earn 14 activity your first day as a newbie. So, 8 weeks to get to 70 activity (56 is the last level, so still a junior member at that point). I don't disagree though. 2 months isn't that long, and you do learn a lot in the meantime, surely.
1057  Other / Off-topic / Re: What would you buy? on: July 05, 2014, 10:12:30 PM
I'm really surprised at how much support Ltc still has, I was starting to think it was dying but maybe not. I take Darkcoin off my list now.

LTC is pretty embedded in the crypto economy/community, if only originally (and still Tongue) for speculation reasons. I caught some lowball bids on that $2.xx spike the other day -- good times. Cool
1058  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do You smoke? tobacco/weed on: July 05, 2014, 10:09:15 PM
not at alll ><
it doesnt do anything for me
and i iritated with that smoke ,
cant breath everytime i smell that

here's example after smoking :

Does that picture show that if i smoke cigs i get full lungs of roaches?

Yes, that's how it works -- didn't you know? That's what lung cancer is, I think, when the cigarette butts start overflowing in the lung area and spread to other parts of the body. Roll Eyes Smiley
1059  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Beware of LocalBitcoins.com on: July 05, 2014, 10:06:15 PM
I wouldn't use them for too high of volume. After seeing some of those stories, I definitely figured it best not to be a liquidity provider there. And I prefer to deal in cash only -- P2P and not through the site directly.
Local bitcoins does allow you to meet to do face to face transactions that are not part of their escrow service.

Sure, I know. The only way I use LBC is for in-person cash transactions. However, to be a liquidity provider and be able to charge markup over/under the exchange price, you need to have a good reputation. That means using LBC escrow (paying fees) and garnering confirmed feedback.
There have been several threads on here about attempted robberies at face-to-face LBC transactions when the buyer has tried to steal the seller's phone so the release code could be entered.

I'm sure that's possible, but seems rare and unlikely. Meet in a public place, and preferably deal with people with some level of positive feedback. But mostly, just meet in a public place. Starbucks has cameras -- that's sort of a deterrent...
I would take feedback with a grain of salt as it is always possible in theory that someone could buy a LBC account. I think it is always important to make your safety your #1 priority.

Of course. Always take things of that sort with a grain of salt. But remember, LBC labels low volume trades as such in feedback. And confirmed trades = % fees on every transaction paid to LBC. So there is clearly financial disincentives in place to padding feedback for the purpose of scamming or selling an account.
1060  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: In need of some professional opinion. on: July 05, 2014, 10:03:22 PM
Day trading is not going to make you money
Buying and holding long term is the winning strategy here

That is true for bad traders. The assumption among bitcoin hoarders that buy-and-hold is the only strategy is patently wrong for the minority that can consistently beat the market. If I bought and held only, I would have many, many times less BTC at this point....
