1121  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Tips on increasing my TRUST level on bitcointalk? on: July 02, 2014, 07:40:00 PM
There is no easy way, and no reason to rush. Reputation is earned around these parts. If you take part in several escrowed trades that go very smoothly, you may get positive trust from a trusted escrow that may be on the default trust list. Best to just stick around and let time do its thing.
1122  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto coins on: July 02, 2014, 07:38:19 PM
That would be realy interesting to know what satoshi is thinking by keeping these coins, or what really is the truth about those coins.

Well, he was the only miner back in the day, keeping the network alive, and one of few later on. He said at one point that "lost coins" are sort of a gift to the rest of BTC holders (decreasing the supply). I think he intends for these coins to remain lost.
1123  Economy / Services / Re: Best escrow for bitcointalk accounts? on: July 02, 2014, 07:36:53 PM
Tomatcage is another good escrower.
A lot of people use him.

For bitcointalk accounts? I'd say they probably don't seeing as he seems to leave a lot of negative feedback for people who are buying/selling accounts.

I've seen negative feedback from Tomatocage for buying/selling accounts. If you are trading accounts, I would not approach him, LOL. Escrow.ms seems to be the choice among account sellers.
1124  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: A serious professionally run Bitcoin Exchange on: July 02, 2014, 07:33:16 PM
There are exchanges than last longer than a year or two.

Just need to do your homework on who you should trust.

problem is they are not regulated.

Bingo.

Indeed, FX Open is one of the more trustworthy places to trade available at the moment. I am looking forward to the next generation of US-based exchanges -- Bitlicensed and all. Smiley
1125  Other / Off-topic / Re: Should the government "erase" the student debt? on: July 02, 2014, 07:30:51 PM
Government subsidies are to blame for the high price of schooling already. They caused the problem, I fully expect them to make it worse by continuing to meddle with it.

Indeed. It will only get worse. Cost of university in the USA is already sky high, and with crap for-profit schools like Phoenix University churning out millions of useless degrees, the value continues down....
1126  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do You smoke? tobacco/weed on: July 02, 2014, 07:28:04 PM
So I have a fishing trip in about a week here.

Afterwards my plan is to quit smoking cold turkey...

Does anyone have any recommendations...what to do to get through cravings...my plan is to exercise....I figure after you exercise you really don't want a smoke anyway...

Any other thoughts would be helpful!

A friend of mine quit cold turkey from 2-3 packs a day -- crazy. He said he got through the first few days doing nothing else differently, but then found that chewing sunflower seeds and toothpicks helped get him through.
1127  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto coins on: July 02, 2014, 07:26:15 PM
Considering he was the only miner early on, it wouldn't be difficult to ascertain the addresses of his earliest mined coins. Just follow the blockchain. Smiley
1128  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crossed 500 USD - Bull Market returns ? on: July 02, 2014, 07:46:57 AM
Looks like the market is charmed all in a sudden. Price is standing at 632 usd now !!! What caused this ?

Pre-speculation bids that the result was an overbid instead of an underbid in the SR auction is my opinion
OR the news got released somewhere and I need to start searching ^_^.
That or sentiment is swinging upwards as June ends and we enter into July.

Does anyone know if the SR auction is over ? Market is steadily rising. It is 652 USD now !!!

Yes, it's been over. I don't think we will get any announcement as to who the winner was or what the price was, though. Apparently, it was one bidder for all 30k coins, and as far as I know, he/she hasn't come out of the woodwork.

http://www.coindesk.com/us-marshals-release-new-data-silk-road-bitcoin-auction/
Some info (no. of bidders, no. of bids) were announced, but no info on the winning bidders or winning price.

There was some information released about the winning bidder:
http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/jul/01/bitcoin-auction-mystery-winner-bid-silk-road

Quote
Mystery bidder wins auction of Silk Road's nearly 30,000 bitcoin

US marshals do not release name of successful bidder as prominent contenders come forward and bitcoin prices rise
1129  Other / Off-topic / Re: FACEBOOK IS DEAD on: July 02, 2014, 07:37:14 AM
Facebook is a pile of steaming shit, there are alternatives but I've never used them:

https://diasporafoundation.org/

https://movim.eu/

I tried Diaspora, but it was quite a while ago. Maybe it's improved in terms of traffic. But at the time, nobody was there, and I didn't wait around to find out if it picked up. This was a couple years ago.
1130  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How much is a mBTC equal to? on: July 02, 2014, 07:36:02 AM
OP is right -- too confusing. Smiley Screw this whole SI unit thing. BTC is a unit already, and it's widely accepted. This unit changing idea is so obviously pegged to USD value, that it means we'll go from mBTC, onto uBTC, satoshis, etc. etc. Or "bits" -- what the hell is that? Just some made up crap.

BTC is a unit.....
1131  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: newegg buttcoin prepaid debit loophole on: July 02, 2014, 07:33:02 AM
is there any loophole that allow you buy prepaid visa/debit giftcard from newegg now that they accept bitcoin Huh

Hm.. Just last week Newegg told me that they have no plans to ever except bitcoin

"Thank you for contacting Newegg.

I apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, we don't plan to start accepting bitcoin. Thank you in advance for your patience.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please visit our FAQs page. If you still require any assistance, please feel free to reply directly to this email.

Thank you,

Yeah, they've had that standard boilerplate for a long, long time. I wonder what finally tipped their hand. Probably all this positive press around the auction. It's obvious bitcoin is being given the green light by the US government, and that it's here to stay. I see more big companies jumping on board in the near future.
1132  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Beware of LocalBitcoins.com on: July 02, 2014, 06:25:19 AM
I wouldn't use them for too high of volume. After seeing some of those stories, I definitely figured it best not to be a liquidity provider there. And I prefer to deal in cash only -- P2P and not through the site directly.
Local bitcoins does allow you to meet to do face to face transactions that are not part of their escrow service.

Sure, I know. The only way I use LBC is for in-person cash transactions. However, to be a liquidity provider and be able to charge markup over/under the exchange price, you need to have a good reputation. That means using LBC escrow (paying fees) and garnering confirmed feedback.
1133  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Poll : do you trust an exchange to hold your bitcoins ? on: July 02, 2014, 06:22:58 AM
I wouldn't trust any exchange, even though I do have an account with blockchain any amount of BTCitcoin i receive automatically gets transferred to my wallet because i can't have what happened a month ago happen again where i was phished for everything i had.

Oh wow, sorry to hear that. I certainly don't keep more than is necessary on the exchanges, though I do keep money there to trade. I also use blockchain.info on my online computer, but only keep relatively small amounts there in case of anything phishy.

1135  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why do scammers scam? on: July 02, 2014, 06:19:50 AM
The reality is that scamming simply requires a broken moral compass. That's all the prerequisite is.

Indeed, I think a lot of scammers just verge on being sociopaths. It's not so much that it's "easy" to scam, it's more so that they come to view it as a legitimate form of work. Marx called them the Lumpenproletariat. Smiley
1136  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best place to sell BTC? on: July 02, 2014, 06:17:04 AM
do all reputable exchanges require kyc?

I don't feel too good about bitstamp knowing my private information..

Define reputable. None of the exchanges are particularly reputable by my standards. This is still the wild west, and IMO, any of them could pull a Gox -- not a question in my mind.

To answer your question, BTCE and Bitfinex do not require verification unless fiat (banking) is involved. So you can send coins, trade, send out coins without verification.
1137  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do You smoke? tobacco/weed on: July 02, 2014, 05:57:44 AM
no i dont smoke i dont want to die from a smoke Cheesy lol.. smoking kill Cheesy

Meh, comments like these make me want to smoke all the more often sometimes.... but really, it's the self-righteous, judgmental type of people that bother me. Smoking is just a personal decision.... we all have our vices.
1138  Economy / Speculation / Re: Ryans log on: July 02, 2014, 05:54:10 AM
As we approach the current ATH, it is a very critical time, imo. If we meet too high of resistance, there is a good chance that many will snap and sell, effectively extending the believed to be behind us, bear market. This type of failure would produce a cascading sell-off back to the $339 area and possibly below before heading up in our next Bull market.

I completely agree. I think this run is make-it-or-break-it time. If we fail to break the $1k level, I think there is a high possibility we will be retesting the $340 low when this bull run turns south.
1139  Economy / Speculation / Re: NEWEGG ACCEPTS BITCOIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on: July 02, 2014, 05:49:52 AM
Dear People of Latin America,

The *ENTIRE* world refers to people from the United States as "Americans" and to the country as "America".

Your inferiority complex is very transparent and annoying.

This is an international forum. The world is here...and the WORLD calls us Americans. YOU are not Americans, we are.

How exactly are Latin Americans not Americans? Setting aside the conversation about whether something that is ought to be, your superiority complex is showing. And who is "us", anyway? The people who collectively live on land bought or stolen by the US government? Okay, great. Go wave a flag or something, because nobody gives a shit.
