701  Other / Meta / Re: Marketplace trust on: May 26, 2016, 07:11:39 PM
Right, and if you say "leaving trust" or "giving trust" it's really not clear whether you're trying to say that you left feedback or whether you added someone to your trust list.  In fact, I think when most people say "giving/leaving trust" the mean the former (feedback) when it sounds more like the latter (added to trust list).  Now mix this in with people asking how how the trust system works and you can hopefully see why it's confusing as hell.  Basically, call it what it is and things will be easier: leaving/giving feedback vs adding/removing from trust list.

I get your entire point, except how giving/leaving trust sounds more like the adding to the trust list? I think all people who say giving/leaving trust mean feedback, never came across the other one.

Edit: may be like this:
Giving trust to X -> I trust X -> by adding him to my trust list?
Leaving trust to X -> Huh Can't appear to mean anything other than leaving him a feedback..

I will try using feedback instead of trust. I knew trust wasn't the correct term to use, but I got stuck to it and didn't have any problems with that yet, so I just kept using it, just like I don't care about the grammar most of the times. Grin

Edit: If you ask me, newbies are like to use 'trust' than 'feedback'. Feedback can mean a lot of different things too. The link text reads Trust too, so it isn't really surprising that everyone new is like to use 'trust'.
702  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Ether so popular, despite its infinite supply? on: May 26, 2016, 06:37:52 PM
Can someone educate me the deep interest with Ether? I understand that it has an infinite supply but the supply is controlled based on rising difficulty. One advantage of Ether is its use for smart contracts, and usage ensures demand which could cause prices to rise.

But Bitcoins have a finite supply (unless the code changes) and its first mover advantage allows it to gain proper market share and ensure its demand, and with its limited supply, theoretically, prices should go up. However, if users were to hoard Bitcoins and there is no usage (delayed expenditure) which leads to low-demand, Bitcoins will devalue.

I'm confused. Resident economists, please enlighten me.

Infinite supply is better than finite supply, that is why many alts (like DOGE) are going for that. The price doesn't have much to do with it. Price is based on the speculation that the technology (smart contracts, blockchain, etc.) is worth x.

Bitcoin and Ethereum aren't competitors. They are made to do altogether different things. If Bitcoin goes down soon, Eth would most probably go down with it.

Prices doesn't works on theory here. Just on what some whales think...

Hoarding generally and theoretically limits supply without compromising on demand and causes prices to rise.

Disclosure: I hold Bitcoin, Ethereum and a little Lisk.

The thread you posted I think was deleted/moved to Trashcan.

A few hours ago, I reported and posted on a thread which had a malware link. The post vanished from my post history and I can't find it as thought. I did not receive any PMs since the post was not deleted.

From my observations,
- Threads are not deleted, but moved to Trashcan
- Trashcan is not visible to public. The moved thread and the posts will not be accessible to you.
- Trashcan is still part of the forum, so you will not lose activity or post count for threads moved there.
- You will not receive a PM (which you will get if your post is deleted) if any of the threads in which you have post(s) is moved to Trashcan.
704  Other / Meta / Re: BitCoinTalk and TOR Browser BAN? on: May 26, 2016, 03:00:21 PM
Once you have registered an account you can use Tor (or any IP) to login, browse, post, PM, whatever. No restrictions over that.
or find a VPN?

Edit: Is this after you registered an account (which was what I thought at first) or when you tried to login on an existing account?

I've recently start to use TOR and just trying to log in on tor shows me this msg:

Edit2: It should be the former.

If you don't plan on doing anything wrong why hide your IP ?

Why do you want to expose your IP address, IP location, ISP etc. to every single site you visit when you can choose to hide such information? It is more about privacy and security than anonymity.
705  Other / Meta / Re: modifications to the forum ? on: May 26, 2016, 02:52:30 PM
Is it me or something changed on the forums ? fonts seem to be smaller (much smaller - same with smileys and buttons of BBcodes) and the type of the font changed too (not sure) and there is no "lines"  between the posts in the sub-forums / in posts etc ...

You are likely zoomed out on your browser... depends on the browser you are using but you can likely fix this by using the "View" menu at the top of the browser and select 'actual size', '100%', or whatever. If you tell me what browser your using, I could give more specific directions.  Cool

I feel dumb , It was the browser indeed but I don't understand how it happened since I didn't change it and how it's changed only in Bitcointalk ? I thought it changes the browser settings and not the web settings . Either way , thanks mate

I got it right when I read the smaller.. smaller part. Cheesy

Happened to me too a couple of months ago. Was zoomed out to 90% somehow and suddenly was on a different looking forum. Took me a good few minutes to figure out.
706  Other / Meta / Re: Low quality posts from people with signature ads - "Ignore all" button needed on: May 26, 2016, 02:44:33 PM
Spam is an integral part of a forum. Grin

If you literally ignore everyone, you can only go through your own posts, right?
707  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: Show "Last edit" info beside the original post info. on: May 26, 2016, 08:54:05 AM
On top of each post we have two possible infos: the date from the original post and the date from last edit.

Instead of being hidden "inside" the original post info and only shown when we mouseover the original post info, I suggest both info could be visible side by side like this example:

Original post: November 01, 2015, 02:12:45 PM - Last edit: November 11, 2015, 02:43:34 PM

Some users get confused trying to figure out if post is old or if it's been updated recently...

I guess that would be a very simple change in the code.

IMO the current implementation is better (though that one is there in beta Grin). Showing last edit makes it appear more relevant than it is.

I suggest adding a help section specific to bitcointalk.org forum like https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=help or even a wiki Cheesy
708  Economy / Gambling / Re: Gambling Dice Site ~~~ Need Help Please on: May 25, 2016, 07:22:28 PM
I've been winning alot (for my standard) on dice sites...

I'll go in and play >50 with a bunch of dust bets, and when I hit several that are under in a row. Then I bet 1 BTC, and if that loses I'll do 2 BTC, if that loses, I'll do 4 BTC, and finally 8 BTC if I have to get there. I'll never bet more than 8 BTC. I've done this about 10 times now and I know I'm surely lucky to have never lost 4 in a row in those ten attempts. However, I have made 10 BTC or just about $4500 from these dice sites.

Someone please give me advice, tips, or speculation on how I can stop and just take my winnings. Please understand it's not as easy as it sounds especially when it seems like "easy money" so far. Of course I know I'm bound to run into a losing streak.

Truly understand that:

1. Every single bet is entirely independent.

2. Every single bet costs you the house edge. For example, on betting x2, you are more likely to lose than win.

tl;dr not fun, not profitable. You could do better things with your time (and money you will eventually lose if you gamble)

Edit: The probability that OP will lose all his funds if he continues this pattern is 100%
709  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: BitcoinRevolvers.com: Ongoing 2 Hour Daily Tournament. Win 0.01 to 0.5BTC Faucet on: May 25, 2016, 07:12:20 PM
Hello,

Was testing out your game and I went head to head with another player, I won but did not get the 0.01 credited to my balance.
I contacted support, hope it gets resolved.  It is the bet I highlighted in blue.

I had the exact same issue before for 0.005BTC when the other player got disconnected. The other player lost the bet, but the amount did not come into my balance.
710  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcoin Revolvers: The Ultimate Multiplayer Gambling Experience! 0% House Rake on: May 25, 2016, 06:55:44 PM
Can you please recalculate my balance?
(Using information provided under the Profile > Games tab + prizes from the daily competition + deposit)

I have reason to believe that my balance is less than what it should be.
711  Other / Meta / Re: Indicator to inform readers that a post has been amended on: May 25, 2016, 06:39:59 PM
On vBulletin forums, there are options to indicate to readers whether a post has been "Edited", and readers have the option to view the history of that amended post, the post author also has to key in a reason for amendment.

Suggest that Bitcointalk admins implement a similar mechanism. Smiley

As already pointed out by knightdk, the feature is already present.

Example : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=211858.msg14967934#msg14967934
Do you notice the dotted underline below Today at 06:16:57 PM? If you hover your mouse over it you will be able to see the time of Last edit.

You will only be able to see the time of the last edit made. (IIRC past contents of an edited post and edits made can be viewed by a person with administrative privileges)
However if you made the edit before around 5 minutes after making the post, it will not show up.

Edit : 10 minutes
712  Other / Meta / Re: Marketplace trust on: May 25, 2016, 06:16:57 PM
I don't see the confusion. Giving trust always means giving trust feedback just shorter to type than giving feedback. What else can it mean?

It's not possible to give "trust feedback".  It is only possible to give feedback.  You have no control over whether that feedback is trusted or not.

Oh I see. The confusion is between "trust feedback" and "trusted feedback".

I am using trust feedback to mean feedback in the trust system - regardless of whether it is trusted or not. Something like in say Marketplace Trust Feedback.

The person giving feedback can choose whether to give positive feedback or negative feedback.

Or neutral Grin

Please don't edit your post, but add new ones if needed!

What is the meaning of this sentence? Could use multi accounts? Clear it!

tl;dr It means you have to make a new post if you need to edit your existing entry. No multi accounts.

Edit: Darn! Already answered..
714  Other / Meta / Re: Marketplace trust on: May 25, 2016, 01:37:21 PM
Also, let's not call it "giving trust", it's already too confusing.  Call feedback 'feedback'.  Call putting someone on your trust list 'putting someone on your trust list'.  This is what the interface calls it.  If we are consistent in this, it may help these kinds of questions come up less often.  I swear that half the confusion on this topic is because there's a trust list, a trust score, and when people give feedback they start calling that trust too.

I don't see the confusion. Giving trust always means giving trust feedback just shorter to type than giving feedback. What else can it mean?

Trust feedback = Trust = Feedback = Trust rating = Rating
Trust is still the shortest Grin

The problem as I see is just that most new members are unaware that
 - a (personal) trust list exists,
 - everyone's trust list is self + DefaultTrust by default,
 - and the trust score they see is based on their own trust list and
 - the trust score any other person sees is based on that person's trust list.

That should be all.

ahm, I'm sure I was within those 325members, I can't find my name in the spreadsheet?  Undecided

Use Ctrl + F.

My problem is I can't find the spreadsheet..

Edit: Found it. Cheesy

Edit2: Your provided username CoinManNet have <11 points, so I guess didn't make it to top 325

Edit3: I can't find my post?

It isn't available in SMF. AFAIK it can be done by moving certain posts to other threads but it can't be done in a *click*.

Sadly, SMF has no merging features. I understand what they are going through, and their posts are constructive and not something that the moderators want to delete, however the thread creation is spam, so we have started locking/merging his threads linking through a single thread's OP.

Yeah. It would be a complex feature implementation-wise. But I think it would be very useful feature in a few cases - say I want to merge two interlinked topics started by me. AFAIK not there in the new forum either.

Personally, I think both threads are useless due to the ability to edit.

Edits are visible. I don't any problem there.

OP updated to point to thread. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.0

Locked.
719  Other / Meta / Re: Marketplace trust on: May 24, 2016, 12:30:41 PM
Thanks Tspacepilot.

Whilst I do want my post count to increase in time, I was legitimately still confused so I appreciate you given me the benefit of the doubt & replying.
I now pretty much 99% understand the system.  Huh My confusion was just about who sees what now I do get it...

In a nutshell...
My trusted feedback score
is determined from my perspective by
a) whether a member is part of my trust network.

For others members' perspective
b) whether that member is part of their trust network.

Thanks again  Grin

That is right. Smiley

If you go to my profile you'd (or someone with Default Trust list) see 60: -0 / +7 but what I see is 76: -0 / +9 because my list is different.

Also if you give a negative trust to anyone, his trust score will go down (red, if it was near 0), because you trust yourself. But no one else will see a change. This part is usually confusing for someone new to the forum and one guy even thought he made it to DT..
720  Other / Meta / Re: People donated to this forum 9226 BTC (4,073,000$) on: May 24, 2016, 12:14:31 PM
Bitcointalk.org is privately owned by theymos, basically all bitcoins donated to the site belongs to him.

I am not sure that is correct.

I know theymos is the administrator of the forum. The domain name is owned by Sirius. I own bitcointalk.  Cool

Quote from 2012:

Sirius founded the forum and still owns the domain name, so I would say that he owns it.
