1101  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Pure Solo Mining on: March 09, 2015, 12:10:21 PM

Except that the hashes that found the block would not be the same as solo or any other pool Smiley
The fact he found the block was the work he was given.
Mining somewhere else, he could have found a block sooner than he did or later, but mining elsewhere would not have found him the same block.

True but a guy can dream.. Wink I found my only block 2 years ago on Slush using a USB miner.

Me too! Block #267202

Well that was my first block.. found quite a few since, but you always remember the first Smiley

I have tried to contact MBP through their website and also by PM here on the forums... It seems they are to busy to answer questions or respond to inquiries so I am going elsewhere... I can see doing business with a company that doesn't respond.

Maybe they are a business and don't work on weekends.

I appreciate the comment, hope you feel better.
I sent e-mails about 10 days ago and again about 5 days ago.  I also sent a PM about 10 days ago. I believe it was prior to this thread being started.

Thank you, I was feeling fine so no need to feel better Smiley

Glad we cleared that up, maybe if you had mentioned how long you had been waiting in your first post I wouldn't have bothered  Cool

Peace

Whats are your primary concerns?

Noise
Power
Performance

Put those in order and your answer should be easier to come to.
1106  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: SP10 fan mods? on: March 08, 2015, 05:24:15 PM
There is an absolutely dirty, dirty mod that I prepared but never attempted. Remove the entire thing from its case and lay the hashing boards out flat (ON SOMETHING NON CONDUCTIVE!) and slightly raised. Get box fans and rest them on the hashing boards.

You're still going to be wrecked by the PSU's fan noise though, which is the main problem on SP10s.

LOL dogie you said exactly the same thing as I did

Doesn't that boost your ego?  Grin

Thats just not possible...  Tongue

Running solid for couple days. Pulling 795w (kill a watt) = .5794.

Do these run better, more efficient, if the chips are colder? Say 85c vs 110c.

Not sure if your fan is set to "auto" or not?  The reason I say this is because I see your fan speed is at "10."  This is a big part of the reason your ASIC's are pretty damn hot on some boards.  I prefer "longevity" of the unit versus "working the hard" at high temps.  I prefer higher fan speed to keep them cooler.  Yes, it is less power efficient if you wish to maintain your present hash rate with a higher fan speed.  However, it increases the life of your ASIC's.  This is my opinion.

If you insist on having a higher hash rate while taking care of your rigs, consider a higher fan speed while sacrificing power efficiency.  I clocked one of mine to a similar hash rate as yours but with higher fan speed to show you the temps and power consumption.  The present power efficiency at these settings is .63 watts per GH/s.

Understood. Thanks for the opinion. Is 100-105c acceptable? I'm balancing fan noise with longevity with hash rate with wattage.

I'd say yes. Keep it under 115C and your ok.

It starts to throttle as it approaches 120-125C

As to longevity, lets face it these things have a lifespan of aprox no more than 12 months really
1109  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [lee group]340$ the sales promotion of hosted antminer S5(golden psu included) on: March 07, 2015, 03:00:58 PM
My new Lee hosted AntMiner S5 has been up and running for about 3 days now and it's hashing within specs.  I am really glad I took a chance on this; now I know I have an alternative to the noisy fans, the constant struggle to keep them cool, and the per unit hosting fees are about 23 cents a day cheaper than my actual per unit S5 electrical costs.  I'm thinking it's time to sell all of my S5's/PSU's and convert them over to Lee hosted machines.  His prices are cheaper than buying directly from Bitmain so it's a no-brainer for me.

Thanks to all that vouched for Lee, it would have been hard to take this leap without the input from all of you in this thread.

Well, it's official…I have sold all of the S5s I had running in my garage and converted them over to Lee Group hosted miners.  I now have 10 S5's up and running (soon to be 11) and it has been a smooth transition.  I was a little surprised at how easy (and profitable) it was to sell my existing equipment but I guess there is a huge demand with Bitmain being completely out of stock for so long now.  I was able to cover my Lee Group purchases and have some left over for some hosting fees.  I'm also very relieved that I don’t have to face the higher temperatures of spring and summer that is just around the corner. I am just not able to keep that many miners cool, even on a mild day.  I was thinking of adding electrical service and air conditioning to an outdoor shed but the expense and extra daily electricity use just wasn’t logical or practical.

I would like to thank Lee and his staff for the top notch, professional manner in which they run their business.  I'm still amazed at how quickly they get things done sometimes.  My hat's off to you guys!
thanks, the only thing i focus is to provide stable service and competitive price, we are trying to lower our host fee, but still need more order, if we can host more than 1000 unit, we will be able to lower the host fee by 10%

Lee, I've had one miner that although it shows as hashing on the portal and the interface, isn't showing up on any of the pools configured. I've asked the support people to reboot it but they seem to not want to do so. Could you check please? You are CC'ed on the original mail.
1110  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: SP10 fan mods? on: March 07, 2015, 12:45:59 PM
helloooooooooo!

any ghetto or not ghetto mods done on sp10?

any idea if it's running without the 6 normal fans plugged in?

how about the psu, if take out its fan will it still run?

thx!

No mods, put it somewhere either no-one can hear it (soundproof outbuilding), or where no-one cares (datacenter)

You could take the entire thing out of the case and point large fans at it I guess. But you would need to clock it down to its minimum speed before testing and be ready to switch it off pronto.

As for the PSU, which I think is where much of the noise comes from anyway, I think you are a bit stuck.

You could go down the immersion route, but thats a waste of money really.

1112  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Spondoolies SP20E. One impressive miner 0,526 W/GH on: March 06, 2015, 09:37:56 AM
Does anyone know the best settings to generate the highest hash for these? I have a few sp20e and they are averagely hashing about 1.400. I have a set price for electricity so it doesn't matter how high my voltages are. Any recommendations will be nice! Thanks!

Its not just about settings, to achieve 1.6TH+ you need to max out the 4 PSU power settings to 288, leaving the rest at default.

Then you have to crank the fans up to 100% and have sub 20° input temps, and watch the ASIC Stats page, if the temps hit near 120°C they will probably throttle back and you will lose hash rate.

So you have to have a few things:

1. Correct settings (288W)
2. Ear protectors (100% fans)
3. Sub 20°C Ambient intake temps (Lower the better)

Lastly make sure you have VERY good PSU's such as EVGA 1300G2 or Server grade PSU's with decent grade wiring.

1114  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Configure antminer s1 to connect to remote server via ssh tunnel on: March 04, 2015, 10:56:51 PM
Hi thanks for the replies. I figured that I would have to ssh into my miner and then set it up to connect to my ssh tunnel on my home server. But not sure how to configure the miner to do it.

On my pc that I am using. I used a dedicated ssh manager to connect to the tunnel. On the antminer I know that it does not need a program like this as it is Linux based. But not sure how to actually set it up on the miner.

I have seen the commands on the web where you can type ssh then the address etc but where do I do this on the antminer?

Thanks for the warnings re my job.

Regards

You have to ssh to the ip address of the miner, and login to the command prompt. Then you can ssh out from the miner to create the tunnel as per the instructions.

I have a feeling I need more s-5's sending you a pm lee.

I sent a pm for one more.

Question I will be up to 4 machines with this one.

Will you be setting up access for pool changes?

Thanks Phil

not sure how to input credentials for more than one machine order as the form has only info for one machine.
do you fill one google doc for each machine? I hope not as this would be quite tedious
thanks

I just emailed him
1116  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Unofficial Spondoolies SP20 thread on: March 03, 2015, 11:32:10 PM
Could you elaborate on the fan changes you have made to your SP20?

- Fan model? Is it a PWM fan or are you using any voltage control for speed?

- Airflow direction? (i.e. does it "suck" or "blow" across blades?)

Always interested in what folks do to quiet it down and preserve hashrate.

Got one with a Scythe Ultra Kaze, the other has a Gentle Typhoon 4250rpm

Its located in the same orientation and location as the original fan, both running at 100% full speed off the psu

From here:

Does anybody have an inexpensive solution to SP-20 noise?
My house does not have a basement, so noise reduction or elimination is a must.
Thanks.

The only thing you can do is change the fan. There are some caveats

1. At the same ambient conditions there will be an increase in heat at the cost of hash power.
2. Unless you are handy with a soldering iron the fan won't go on the header on the controler board, so you need to power it from the PSU.
3. Noise is directly proportional to CFM, however the tone or type of noise can change even with a fan that has similar performance. That being said most of the 200CFM fans available have similar db output of between 59-65 db.

e.g. Scythe Ultra Kaze 3000rpm 133CFM Fan intake from window, outside temp 6 °C

Mining Rate: 1506.37Ghs
Temp Front / Back T,B
21 °C / 77,74 °C

I've had good luck with my SP20E with the following settings, getting 1337 GH/s
(ignore fan speeds as I am running an alternative fan to the stock SP fan for noise pollution sanity reasons Smiley)

Start Volts Unit 1(0.58-0.80)                   0.66

Start Volts Unit 2(0.58-0.80)                   0.66

Start Volts Unit 3(0.58-0.80)                   0.66

Start Volts Unit 4(0.58-0.80)                   0.66

Set your Maximum voltage limit to 0.790 for unlimited or less for under-voltage
Voltage Limit (0.580-0.790)                   0.67

Set PSU power.
Max PSU Power Unit 1 (70W - 288W)       190

Max PSU Power Unit 2 (70W - 288W)       190

Max PSU Power Unit 3 (70W - 288W)       190

Any tips?

Be sure not to run a miner on your employers dime without permission? Its a fast way to losing your job.

Otherwise, ssh onto the antminer and then ssh tunnel out from there, then point the pool setting on the antminer to the local address and port that you are tunnelling out from.

1119  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: March 03, 2015, 08:57:52 AM
Spondoolie, you know just like everyone else a home user can't buy in bulk, and if that's all you are going to do in the future then the single consumer is off your marketing list. You for some reason just don't want to verbally say it. It is  your company to do with what you want, but bulk sales to just a few investment groups isn't going to help bitcoin in my opinion.

If an SP100 comes out thats ~8U, 10kW, 16TH I would be able to operate 1-2 of them. Its definitely not bulk, but it would be a practical size for the serious (ie: >$5000 investment) miner since it reduces on the cost of using multiple controllers and shipping boxes to otherwise ship 3-4 SP3x units

@SP-T: Would be nice to see a clever upgrade path given for old SPT equipment, namely the power supplies. For example, a 750W PSU that could swap out with the 1050W PSU in an underclocked SP10 miner. that 1050W could then be used in newer gear like an SP100.

That was my point I was trying to make before. I don't think they will sell someone just 1 or 2 or 3 or 4. Only bulk, maybe  a min of 15-20 or something. Their business model will be for deep pockets only. %90 can't just spend $20k or more at the drop of a dime. I mean their SP31 that still says in stock has had the same price for quite a while now. I doubt they're even wanting to sell those individually.

Thats not how I read what they have said. But I doubt they will come out with a "home" miner again. They will stick to their datacenter optimised models going forwards. But I think they will sell single units, its not like they do free shipping, you pay for the shipping so its no harder for them to ship one than ship 3 or 5 or 10.

I took a shot at cornering the paperclip jumper market not too long ago. Some interesting Q's and A's in there if you have a second. Took a page straight out of the High Def HDMI Cable market.

Impressive, must have made a fortune out of those!
