9641  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: The most secure wallet without downloading blockchain on: August 14, 2019, 10:44:19 AM
Some people in this forum hate coinomi because it is not open source, and because its mobile desktop version had a bug that could share seed with Google docs (something like that)

However, it is a convenient wallet, in the mobile version. There is no multicurrency wallet which is open source. Also, the Google bug with the seed never affected the mobile version.

So, imo, you can use the mobile version to hold small amounts of money, especially if you need a multicurrency wallet.

For large amounts, ledger nano and trezor are the best choices, no doubt
9642  Other / Meta / Re: [SUGGESTION] Drafts Page on: August 14, 2019, 12:32:37 AM
When I need to draft stuff I normally use notepad or a built in text editor to keep a copy of what I want to write and just have the going as it is...

If it's important enough to keep after 7 days, it's important enough to use in an external editor.

I can guarantee you that not many people use the drafts feature or even care about it, so this whole feature exploration thing would only happen for a handful of people , if it were to ever happen.

What you guys are saying is basically "as nobody uses it, it is fine the way it is, just use an external editor". Wasn't this page supposed to be used? And just automatically saving drafts at random and deleting them after 7 days is pretty useless IMO.

I think we have an internal draft page, that could be put to use just by changing a few lines of code.
It is useless as it is, because it doesn't allow you proper manage your drafts (delete, save, copy, duplicate, etc)

I use an external editor also. But hey, we have one here. We can't we make it useful?

Any particular reason why you'd like need to save a post as a draft and not post it for months?

Yes, I can think of many uses for that. Don't you use your e-mail drafts page?

Few time ago I wrote a draft of an enormous posts, which I put some effort in formatting. I was lazy and decided to finish it later (as I needed to wait for someone's response before publishing. I saved the file in notepad, but my laptop was stolen.... If drafts were different...
9643  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: The most secure wallet without downloading blockchain on: August 13, 2019, 11:30:30 PM
It is a local wallet? So it can't be controlled by companies or possibilities to froze funds until KYC approvation?

This will only happen if you keep funds on an Exchange, such as Coinbase (or its custodial Wallet).

Custodial wallets aren't really a wallet, it is an exchange that keep your funds. They can enforce KYC or anything else, as they are the true owners of your bitcoins, as they hodl the private keys.

You will be safe with the wallets suggested by BitMaxz. Just note down the Seed (12-24 words), because that seed contains your private keys.

How with Electrum is possible to use every feature without downloading the blockchain?
Because it is a light weight wallet (SPV). It doesn`t download all transactions in history, just the ones related to your funds.

SPV wallets check balances using explorers such as blockchain.com. Just paste your public address there (used to receive funds) and you can see all its past transactions.

Quote
Is it stored on "a" server? If the server go offline I can't use my wallet?
AFAIK, there is no risky of this to happen. If Electrum ever stop working, you can just import your SEED (that words i said) into any other wallet and you will have your bitcoins.
9644  Other / Meta / [SUGGESTION] Drafts Page on: August 13, 2019, 09:58:51 PM
Hello,

I would like to use more our drafts page. However, for now, it is almost useless to me.
I think that a better draft platform will incentive posters to elaborate their posts and topics more carefully.

For now, to save a draft we need to click Preview. It automatically saves it in this  page, where drafts are kept for 7 days only. Up to 100 drafts can be saved.

Quote
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=drafts

Drafts are saved whenever you preview or post a topic, post, or PM. Up to 100 drafts are kept. Drafts are deleted after 7 days.

In my opinion, saving 100 drafts is completely unnecessary and deleting them after 7 days defeats the whole purpose of drafts.
7 days is a short period, and people may forget about a draft and lose it. I believe most users simple this draft page, because it is too risky to lose your work.

If it were possible to choose 1 to 5 drafts to be saved permanently or at least for a few months, it would be amazing and I believe more people would use this feature.

Thoughts?
9645  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: HOW TO CONVERT NON SPENDABLE TO SPENDABLE BTC on: August 13, 2019, 05:28:55 PM
Hello, friends ,
I have a question I had a friend that did bitcoin mining for me but when it was done she transferred them back to me as non- spendable. How do I make them spendable?

Your friend didn't transfer you anything. He just gave you his public address so you could watch his bitcoins.

To really receive it you need to create a wallet (like electrum.org) and click receive: you will find a public address, ask him to transfer you to that address
9646  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Biometric BTC wallet? on: August 13, 2019, 02:40:49 PM
The way blockchain is designed, what matters is only the private key.

A retina or finger print or whatever would just be a second layer of security, which wouldn't do much if the stealer has the private keys.
9647  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Getting Started with Bitcoin [Very Imp Points for Begginers] on: August 13, 2019, 01:42:56 PM
Nice guude.

Few comments

It's not BitCoin, but Bitcoin (the Network) or bitcoin (the currency).

Additionally, the price now is not less than 50% of ath. Now the price is 11200 and ath is 20000, what would be about  55%

9648  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: pay on the web with bitcoin on: August 13, 2019, 11:56:15 AM
Hello everyone, I would like to know if on my website I could put the payment with bitcoint and if anyone knows how to do it?

Bitpay.com and btcpayserver.org will do what you want for you.

Btcpay is better because it is open source and does not demand kyc. But bitpay is here for longer time, and if kyc is not a problem to you, you can choose this one.

What would you like to buy?

The op is selling not buying.
9649  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I have a "IDEA" and want Fundraising from ICO. Need advice[Read more] on: August 13, 2019, 11:52:38 AM
Then think about it yourself. Where's the money going to come from? You can't simply just magically generate fiat or BTC out of nowhere to pay your holders just by them holding your token.

People think that crypto = Making money out of nowhere.

This guy must be thinking that mining is just generating thousands of bitcoins out of nowhere. That a pos time. Just magically makes money . And this industry is already full of these people.

Mining is not making money out of nowhere. Mining is a service. People demand miners. Who demand? People who use BTC.

A token model like op suggested, to make profit per week would need a profitable company behind, selling goods or services which are demanded by customers.
9650  Other / Off-topic / Re: Overview on browsers. Which one should we use? Support free web while browsing. on: August 13, 2019, 09:46:57 AM

Firefox is the best, but I think if people don't want to do KYCs to get payments through BATs, they can keep using Brave browser. It is same as KYCs from blockchain.com or Coinbase if someone want to claim airdrops on their platforms. KYCs don't turn Blockchain.com or Coinbase into bad platforms, I believe. I have my solid perspective that I will not do KYCs if I don't have to mandatory to that. Example, with Binance, I simply use the lowest account level, which allows 2 BTC withdrawals maximum per day. That's fine enough, IMO.

It's a shame, but if you don't use their BAT token & disable BAT feature, Brave is still good free/privacy-focused browser.

The problem imo is not the kyc to receive payments. They were forced to do that to comply with regulations, and that's fine.

The problem is that they advertise themselves as the privacy browser, that's their slogan. But when the first obstacle appeared, they just enforced kyx to everyone and forgot their principles and their slogan. But they kept calling themselves privacy focused....
9651  Other / Off-topic / Re: Overview on browsers. Which one should we use? Support free web while browsing. on: August 13, 2019, 02:15:34 AM
updating:

Brave, the privacy browser, requires KYC.

https://community.brave.com/t/uphold-kyc-know-your-customer-verification-is-now-required-in-order-to-receive-bat-publisher-payouts/42035/8

So, now I am 100% sure: Firefox forever. Just uninstalled my brave.
9652  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Unable to login Blockchain.info on: August 12, 2019, 07:25:42 PM
Blockchain.info wallet is just an interface where you can interact with your private keys. Your coins are in the blockchain. If they terminate the service, you can just change the interface, i.e., the wallet.
They have purpose for having these kind of terms and conditions since many of the wallets are unverified even myself because I am not verified my blockchain.com wallet yet since I only used to receive few times and never used it again so if many do the same and lose their account then they have opportunity to steal all the remaining funds right?

This has nothing to do with Id verification.

When you create a blockchain.info wallet you receive your privatekeys, i.e., the 24 words seed.

Id verification is for xlm airdrop

9654  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: blockchain.info wallet from 2013 not working on: August 12, 2019, 02:07:45 PM
I dont know exactly the wallet id format when logging in on their website on that year, if the wallet id are different from now, then there's no way you can login using their login page with the credentials you have. Except if you have the mnemonic keys of your wallet, you can use this tool to recover them.

I used api to create bulk wallets and all of them were created at the same time, every other works except this one . So i don't think that's the problem.

Do you have the 24 words seed, as bl4nkcode asked?

With that words, you can recover your funds in any other wallet, even in a new blockchain.info one.

If you have the words, be very careful when pasting it on a website, because those words are your private keys, which allows anyone to spend your bitcoins with them.

Without the words, there is little you can do.
Blockchain.info support is terrible and you will be ignored forever. If you are lucky you will talk to a bot.

Have you tried "forgot ID" or something like that? I would try to generate a new password and see if it work as magically as it broke.
9655  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: BC Vault hardware wallet - is this a reasonable answer to a question? on: August 12, 2019, 01:35:07 PM
It's worth pointing out that Trezor is vulnerable to seed extraction which is dangerous if one doesn't use a long passphrase.

One of those "only in the movies" attack. The chances, for now, that someone break into my house, find my hardware wallet and knows how to do this attack are minimum. But anyway, anyone with a Trezor should really be using a passphrase...

Maybe in future we should be more worried about these kind of attacks. As adoption grow, common thieves (and not only hackers) will discover that stealing hardware wallets is lucrative.

Certainly when that time comes we will all need to replace our hardware wallets for new ones which would be more robust against physical attacks, which are not something to worry right now.

9656  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: BC Vault hardware wallet - is this a reasonable answer to a question? on: August 12, 2019, 11:28:04 AM
Consider buying a Trezor T. It has a big screen and allows you to enter PIN, passphrase and recover the device without having to worry whether or not your computer is infected.

Ledger nano s has that exact same feature and passphrase is entered  on the device (ofc, if it wasn't it wouldn't be a hardware wallet)

Personally, I don't understand why is trezor T so expensive 149 euros, while ledger nano s is only 50-60 USD

But both are excellent options and are worth the price. I don't trust any other wallet.
9657  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why .IO is popular in crypto websites than .COM ? on: August 12, 2019, 11:14:17 AM
It means investors have reasons to doubt about reliability of projects that run their sites on domain names with .io, .info, etc. I am not a technical guy, so I am not sure, but what did you imply that price of a .com site? Millions (really)?
Really
You don't need to be technical guy to look at prices:

Quote
Here are the 25 most expensive domain names publicly reported.

    CarInsurance.com — $49.7 million
    Insurance.com — $35.6 million
    VacationRentals.com — $35 million
    PrivateJet.com — $30.18 million
    Voice.com — $30 million
    Internet.com — $18 million
    360.com — $17 million
    Insure.com — $16 million
    Fund.com — £9.99 million
    Sex.com — $14 million*
https://www.godaddy.com/garage/the-top-20-most-expensive-domain-names/

Why didn't those people just bought a cheaper carinsurance.io domain, or a 360.io? Because nobody care about .io domains.

Quote
I think .com sites for unknown domain names, have cheap price. Blockchain.com is expensive because nowadays blockchain is one of hottest keywords, and crypto, blockchain are future of human civilization.
For other names, ie. Botcoin.com (if I want to run a new project, with a crypto currency, namely Botcoin), I don't think that domain name is expensive.

Obviously. However a .io domain will be even cheaper. And a .com domian may not even available.
9658  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to find actual educational crypto related videos? on: August 12, 2019, 10:17:05 AM
Learning from videos are much easier and faster comparing many other source of information. Simply you look for the topic you are interested and someone explains you all about it just with in few minutes.

I strongly disagree with this statement.

Learning from videos is not faster, and you will learn only until a certain point.

To get to really know something you need to read. There is no other option. Reading is also faster than listening (everyone can read faster than talking, if you can't read that fast you need to practice your reading).

Reading also allows you to get more detailed information.

But anyway, videos are nice to watch and to learn superficial ideas on the topic you want, and videos can be a nice introduction.. but they do not substitute a book.

Just take as an example antonopoulos YouTube channel and his books. His books are much deeper.
9659  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be careful when you want to modify Font Face for your posts/ threads on: August 12, 2019, 10:11:34 AM
In addition, that most of those fonts don't actually works in mobile browsers except the courier new if I'm correct.

I use bitcointalk mostly on mobile . And I confirm this, all font faces look are same here.

Personally, I don't like this kind of modifications. This is a simple forum, not a website. Formatting is important, but other kind of formatting.

It is important to quote precisely, it is important to use bold and italics when necessary, and maybe a big and small font size.

But fancy things like images and font face do not look good in devices, and also are harder to read sometimes.

If you are changing the font face of your post, only your post will look different, which does not look good (imo)
9660  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: BC Vault hardware wallet - is this a reasonable answer to a question? on: August 12, 2019, 07:02:55 AM
There are so many good hardware wallets out there. Why buy this shitty one?

Don't have even bip39 seed ? They will maybe release an application so that I can get my keys? Is this a joke?

Would you trust your savings in a device made by people who can't do something so simple that every other wallet out here does?
Is that wallet really secure? I mean , can we be sure that the private keys will never leave the device?

I trusted ledger and trezor because they have been tested a lot. Community trusts them, and they are on the market for years.

The idea to maybe receive my keys is just ridiculous.
Stay away and buy a real hardware wallet: trezor or ledger.

If you already have one bc vault, just remove your coins from it and buy another wallet. Ledger is very cheap, and you will have peace that you will never lose your coins.
