9701  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Safest cold storage options currently on: August 05, 2019, 10:44:51 AM
But you know.. there might be an exploit in the QR code scanner. So effectively, you are never 100% secure.
However, using a dedicated computer just for storing the private keys is definitely one of the most secure options.

I think the main reason for people to avoid hardware wallets are the physical attacks.

However those attacks  can't be mitigated by an airgapped computer, unless you format it after creating the paper wallet.

But you could also do it in a ledger, just reset it always after use. (Pretty annoying and I don't think that's useful)
9702  Economy / Exchanges / Re: gEMINI CLOSED MY ACCOUNT WITH no EXPLANATION... WHY? on: August 05, 2019, 05:16:56 AM
So now i can't login to access any of my digital assets and this after moving all my trading crypto (not my HODL cryptos) to Gemini just in case I needed to make a trade while traveling. I thought Gemini was different and safe... what the hell?
No exchange is safe. All of them are hell.

Your funds were probably frozen because they want more documents. Governments all over the world are demanding more information from cryptocurrency exchanges.

I would email them , contact support, create post on Reddit, everything
9703  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: POS for beginners: How to earn coins passively with no work on: August 05, 2019, 05:11:32 AM
you can't mention PoS and not mention the biggest problems that it has specially from an investment perspective. PoS is basically giving away profit on your money for free! this not only causes inflation but also it is inserting a lot of supply in circulation which will then cause the downfall of that coin. that is why most PoS coins don't even survive for long specially those with big rewards.
that makes them terrible investments. you think you are earning something like 10% profit but as the price declines more than that 10% profit you lose more money than you earn in the long run.

People are naive, and misunderstood dividends from real companies (stocks), and think that just staking a shitcoin it will multiply itself forever.

Dividends are the profits of a real company that comes to it's investor. A coin with no use, which nobody uses, and just indefinitely multiply itself when new blocks are created , has no value.
9704  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [LIST] List of User who offer Rental SIGNATURE/AVATAR/TEXT space on: August 04, 2019, 12:51:05 PM
You missed fellow Merit Cyclist suchmoon, and you forgot to add an important criterion: earned Merits!

For a complete overview, you may want to add the current status: "rented" or "available".

Nice suggestions.

I think mentioning how much recognized  the user is a nice addition as well. As recognized is a more global score, which considers merit trust activity posts etc.

Please update my accepted cryptocurrencies (BTC and ETH)

But sometimes I think nobody will ever rent lol
9705  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Sending and receiving coins and tokens for newbies on: August 04, 2019, 01:54:28 AM
Why not check all characters/ digits of address? I think it is safer than only check first and last ones? Or are there some technical reasons for this?
Checking all characters/digits of address requires less than a minute, so I think people should check them all after adopting and pasting.

It is impossible for a hacker to generate a private key which only  changes a few digits of your public address.

Even vanity generators are able only to match a few characters together.

So you only need to check some characters, not all of them.

Even if it takes only a minute, it is not necessary imo.
9706  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Website to parse BTC price into spreadsheet on: August 03, 2019, 05:25:18 PM
I use Coinmarketcap API to update my excel spreadsheet.

Maybe this a solution for you also.
The API can be found here

https://api.coinmarketcap.com/v1/ticker/bitcoin/
https://api.coinmarketcap.com/v1/ticker/ethereum/

and so on.

There is an easy way to import it to excel.

Just click the Data tab

Look for Get Data > Other Sources  > From Web

And paste the API address.

Then everytime I want to update it, I just click Data > Refresh All

I think it will work for your OpenCalc software, but the names might be slightly different.
9707  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Safest cold storage options currently on: August 03, 2019, 01:31:36 PM
Hardware Wallet can be considered a cold storage.
Easy to use, safe and cheap.

As discussed many times already here, making a paper wallet may be complicated and risky, as there are many problems regular users do not consider when creating one, and they may even lose funds due to those mistakes.
9708  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Telegram is a very risky place on: August 03, 2019, 07:07:34 AM
You can have the same attitude here.

Always ask questions and answer them on public. Avoid pm.

Many scammers will try to fool you on pm. When you are posting in public many people will give their opinions and maybe even tag a scammer before you notice anything unusual.
9709  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [List] Atomic swap tools and exchanges for Bitcoin (work-in-progress) on: August 03, 2019, 02:09:18 AM
Edit: I'm really not sure about Atomicwallet. They claim to use a combination of atomic swaps (for a few currencies) and Changelly, but are not completely open source, and there seems to be even a scam accusation out there. I'll better remove them until they go really open source so the code can be revised. Swap.online, however, seems a legit swap platform until now, I'll research a bit further however. There are two other services under consideration: Sparkswap and Exchangeunion.

I used atomic wallet few weeks after they launched it

I was going to recover some bcd there and exchange it using changelly, which is integrated in the wallet just like coinomi.

However, the wallet was bugged and my bcd disappeared (the wallet just didn't recognized the address with funds anymore). It was clearly a bug, and I talked with the support for many days. It was a great support, and I could prove that it was a bug and they refunded me in BTC (it was a small value, but I liked the attitude).

I don't think anyway that it is a scam. It is a multicurrency wallet with changelly integrated just like coinomi. Not atomic swaps, unless they made a great change since last year.
9710  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: POS for beginners: How to earn coins passively with no work on: August 03, 2019, 12:18:43 AM
Until a big blockchain project such as ethereum adopt proof of stake, there is no reason to try those risky projects.

Even vitalik is being conservative and is delaying forever Casper (which is the implementation of pos in ethereum network).
A big project like ethereum never tried pos before. So this is extremely risky and nobody knows how it will work

9711  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [List] Atomic swap tools and exchanges for Bitcoin (work-in-progress) on: August 02, 2019, 11:59:43 PM
I'm creating a list of tools to perform atomic swaps between Bitcoin and other currencies. An atomic swap is a cryptocurrency exchange using a contract between users of different blockchains. The exchange of a secret ensures that both transactions are carried out or both participants are refunded.

All of your examples are Centralized services which exchange coins, and they do not use smartcontracts or Dapps, as atomic swaps should.

Atomic swaps should be decentralized services, and the swap should be done by a smartcontract/dapp, not by a centralized service.

Those services you mentioned, like atomic wallet or shapeshift, changelly etc are services which uses exchanges such as Binance to exchange coins in a nice interface for you. Not an atomic swap.

Edit: I think maybe bartdex /liquidex may be an atomic swap , but I am not sure.
Edit2: atomic wallet uses changelly (look at partners https://atomicwallet.io/)

Just Ctrl c ctrl v the address, never try to type it.

And check he first and last digits, as there are some malware that can access your clipboard

9714  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Brave, the so called "privacy" browser now requires KYC! on: August 01, 2019, 05:06:27 PM
the biggest issue I see is that companies like Brave are using"privacy" and other cypherpunk fundamentals only as an advertisement. Are they really comprised with that ideals of a Free web?
I was reading that they allow publishers only to withdrawal funds after kyc, and even so to a custodial service that doesn't allow you to have the privatekeys (uphold "wallet").

That uphold wallet is just another custodial service like Freewallet and so many out there, which will freeze your funds  whenever they want, making your funds hostage until you give them more docs, or more information or whatever.

It's is just a bank, but without all the laws and regulations which also protect us, not only them.

There is no reason to use any of those services, just use a traditional bank or visa and Google ads.

This is why Bitcoin is different from all those companies and cryptocurrencies. Because it is free from all that.
9715  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Brave, the so called "privacy" browser now requires KYC! on: August 01, 2019, 04:49:30 PM
But these days it is really hard to protect your privacy.

Wait, one thing is to protect yourself against tracking cookies , Google ads etc. You may choose to give a fuck about that, and that's ok.

Another very different stuff is requiring passport or driver's licence to be able to use a browser. (Even as a publisher, it was required before)
It's very invasive. That's not a privacy matter anymore, but it also involves your reputation, safety, etc. What are they doing with your passport?
9716  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Lost my BitcoinCash on: August 01, 2019, 03:06:01 PM
You can use insert your privatekey or seed in any wallet that supports Bitcoin cash

Electrum cash or coinomi (mobile) are my recommendations.

Calm down, you didn't lose anything. You just sent your Bitcoin cash to an address which you have the keys but no interface to see the funds.
Thanks, but it doesn't work. I've downloaded electrum cash and coinomi but it shows 0 BCH.

Did you insert the Private key or the seed?

If you ha r the seed, you can go to iancoleman.io/bip39 , insert your seed and get the privatekeys qrcode
Coinomi allows you to scan that qrcore and recover the gunfs.
After doing this procedure your seed will be compromised.
9717  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Safe way to send a bitcoin address on: August 01, 2019, 09:52:41 AM
To "bitmover": consider this scenario,

Alice Smith emails Bob a new address with zero balance. He sends her 10btc. Eve observes this email in transit, or by hacking into Alice's or Bob's mailbox. Now, Eve knows that person alice@example.com received 10btc.  By inspecting other info about alice@example.com she learns of her identity as Alice Smith, her address and so on.  She blackmails Alice to report her to police for receiving so much money over crypto. Alice is forced to take a week holiday from her day job, in order to talk with her accountant. She pays to the accountant $1000 in fees and looses a week of work, causing about $3000 of damage.  After that Eve targets Bob, blackmailing him that he got the money from engaging in an illegal business. Etc.

Now, let's say Alice instead created 20 addresses, and asked Bob to send 0.5 btc over each address. Then Eve can still collect this information by scanning all of the emails in her mailbox.

If Alice is going to receive 10 BTC illegally, she could just create a new email address and ask the other illegal operator to use different names. She could also ask Bob to deposit the 10 BTC in a mixing server directly and share the privatekey with her.

There are some possible solutions for this, all of them for free. But you didn't point out any? You just asked fof investors and pointed a problem which already has some solutions. Noneof them are 100%, and yours isn't 100% either  (probably)
9718  Economy / Exchanges / Re: KRAKEN HACKED (2 FA & good password), 80% of my fund is lost on: July 31, 2019, 11:32:28 PM
I used kraken a lot in 2017,, but never logged in again.
Never had any problems with them.

And all cryptocurrency exchanges have terrible customer support.. you are probably talking to a bot.

Your history is odd. Why didn't this guy withdrawal the funds instead of doing those crazy  trades?

Did you check where the illegal login came from? You can check tbhat in your account, or ask them for login history. Could it be a family member or something like that?
It's sad, but nobody should ever leave funds on exchanges, unless if you are actually trading a lot.
9719  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Nano Ledger S, How Many Wallets Can I Install At Once and Compatibility? on: July 31, 2019, 09:46:35 PM
. Why did you choose Ledger instead of Trezor? If you don't want to derail the thread then it would be great if you could message me.

When I bought ledger, it was easier because they deliver anywhere in the world and trezor didn't at the time.

I read also more people with problems losing coins with trezor, and never saw a case with ledger (i believe it may exist, but I am not aware).

However, ledger is not full open source and trezor is.

And really, this whole idea about space doesn't make any difference. I open my ledger like 5 times a year.
9720  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Brave, the so called "privacy" browser now requires KYC! on: July 31, 2019, 05:26:39 PM
I always loved bat and brave browser. I just can't believe. I had to go the original website to be sure.

And yes, for content creators this is necessary (not for simple users). even if there is no fiat involved...
But even so, I would not support a Browser doig that. We don't need brave browser, I would support it of it ideology is compatible with mine, about a free and open internet. Which is not. Firefox is

And this is quite old , from November 2018 I saw people complaining in Reddit.

Lots of problems come from this. What about journalism in repressive countries? What's about people who write about cypherpunk moviment and want to stay anonymous?
