Looks like us libertarian oldtimers are being overrun by leftist newbies.

Inevitable. It's always K types who explore risky ventures like this, and once it's proven to be more or less safe the rabbits join in.

Yes I know, but it makes me feel sad, there are no places for us anymore. Well fewer at least, and I miss the good old days when we were all libertarians and the discussions revolved around different flavours of libertarianism, rather than us against them.

EDIT: revolved

It sounds like you must Enjoy having Blockstream's  dick shoved down your throat while your paying $100+ to move your coins off an exchange.

Tell your grandma to buy Bitcoin, it's a great investment. I'm sure she will love the part where she has to calculate a priority fee to pay based on the size of her transaction.

For everything else, there's Bitcoin Cash.

What sort of idiot is in bitcoin to spend them in b/s?
It's just you.

Yeah, because the thousands of people who have disconnected themselves from the banks and from FIAT don't exist.

Legacy Bitcoin has been taken over by corporate interests that want to prevent BTC from scaling, thus removing competition and ensuring their monopolies will continue uncontested. No one is going to want to pay $20, 30, 40, 50$+ fees to make a payment or just to move coins. Thus, Legacy Bitcoin has truly become a Banking Settlement Layer - with fees comparable to a bank wire, and confirmation times comparable to a bank wire. This is Bitcoin now. Enjoy it. It's what you wanted.

So use another coin then, why are you stuck on bitcoin. The Zimbabweans use both bitcoin and dash. One for savings and one for shopping. Works fine, and no banks involved.
3526  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 08, 2017, 06:13:15 PM
So now Bitcoin is stuck with 1mb forever.

The Lies and Censorship crew have won.

Meanwhile, Lightning Network is at-least "18 months" away from being deployed.

Are you guys ready for $100+ fees?

This is the "settlement layer" you wanted. Forget Satoshi's Bitcoin, now BTC is a store of value only coin. Who cares about commerce or competing with banks or actually trying to change the world, right?

Because non of the other 1000 or so coins can do that. Only Bitcoin can save the world.

There is always Bitcoin Gold. The 12:th or thereabout I think.

The x2 chain, in a darwinist/capitalist context, is more likely to survive than the x1 chain.

The highlighted aspect says to me - fear of being poor. That's why they won't disrupt how Bitcoin is operating and that informs all behaviour in this space.

or..., that is why they will provide the network with better features that make it more competitive in relation to its environment.
Every biologically immutable being is doomed to disappear with respect to those who do. Homo sapiens vs Homo erectus.

If that's  the case, why did VHS survive and Betamax die?

Quote
Standard Betamax tapes lasted 60 minutes — not long enough to record a movie. Conversely, the 3-hour VHS tapes were perfect for recording television programmes and movies

I remember watching, and renting, movies on Betamax

we get free coins after forks. they are aidrop for holding bitcoin. we can get 10% of value from the bitcoin price.

When it forks the value of the other will go down while the new one takes a bit away from it and then when you put it back into BTC then BTC will be back where it was before and the other coin goes down.  That's just my impression
But i don't see a difference because when the fork happens, say bitcoin drops 10% because people go into the other fork then you buy back that extra from the fork but it's like a seesaw because we all go into that one bringing the other price down and then we buy the other back and then it goes up so you don't win anything really.

Economy is not a zero sum game.

anyway, my 'rationalization' on HODL

What I would dump at the first chance given is my B2X coins, bitgold, and any other BTC forks that comes along.
I just need a safe way to do it.

You don't consider Coionomi safe?

So, I have talked a little bit more with Coinomi about the upcoming fork to clear things up.
Here's what I have so far.

They will support both chains after the fork.
Bitcoin will still be called bitcoin and still be on the legacy chain.
They will  implement replay protection for SW2X on their wallets.
You will be able to claim your SW2x coins.

Sounds good to me, I will keep my coins there during the fork.

Thanks for the tips man!

You have any idea about the possible precautions that should be taken in order to get the new coins too?
Will it be something automatical? I know I was really angry to have lost my new shiny coins after last fork simply because I didn't respect the process for my electrum wallet... That's really a shame to know you've lost 10% of easy money like that Cry

This is how you get your Electrum coins.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2062488

1. Extract your private keys for your pre-fork BTC coins by following the appropriate steps in the list of providers below.

- Electrum
1) Open the menu "View" and click on "Show Addresses"
2) Then open the new tab "Addresses"
3) Right-click on the addresses that had Bitcoin before the fork, then click "Private key".
4) Click on the qrcode icon to show it.

Now that you got your private key(s) for the address(es) that contained BTC prior to the fork of August 1st:

2. Create a BCH wallet in coinomi.

3. Click on .../Sweep Wallet and paste or scan the BTC private key that you obtained in step 1.

Your forked coins should now appear in your Coinomi BCH wallet

I don't know for sure, but I suppose it will be the same procedure as last time.

BTW, if you had coins on Electrum during the bitcoin cash fork you can get them by following the steps in the link above.
They may not be lost.

You don't have to join the Canadian Forces to get a uniform; there are plenty of army surplus shops in the area that sell those... though you might not be able to pay with Bitcoin Wink

Oh, sorry, I thought you came from somewhere else, my mistake.

I don't want to wear the full uniform unless I'm actually authorized to do so. It also looks sloppy if you only wear half or part of a uniform, I see that all the time in other countries.

I don't want to be caught impersonating an officer unless that's actually part of my job (if I become some sort of spy or secret agent or something.)

Uniforms are nice, especially the blue Navy/Marines. But I might be biased since I got one of those myself. Retired but still allowed to use it at some occasions.

As soon as it is safe I will move my stash to Electrum, then claim my BTG and SW2X coins, move them to Blockchain, get a new seed for my Coinomi wallet, move the free coins back there and use them as spending money, and the original stash will stay on Electrum as a savings account.

Just be extra careful if you have a lot of coins. Mine are in a TREZOR and I dare not touch them. I had to change my old recovery seed to a fresh one because of the BCH hard fork, during which my coins always stayed in the TREZOR and the seeds kept offline.

I use Coinomi and it's a nice wallet, but I'm not sure I want to transfer all my stash there. I think I'll wait for a solution by the TREZOR team.

I don't have a Trezor or similar device yet, so for me it was either a core node, but I have just bought a new computer, and I can't be bothered to download the whole chain right no. Or Electrum, or Coinomi. And since I got assurances from Coinomi that my coins would stay on the legacy chain, and they would enable replay protection, I opted for Coinomi.
Had I had a Trezor I might have kept my coins there, seems pretty safe..

I am an investor. I am interested in block size. Ergo, claim is demonstrated as false.

Ok. I'll rephrase that in a manner that even you can identify with.

"Not one investor is remotely interested in blocksize, capacity or any other monetary vehicular niceties if it means the loss of 90% of the value of their holdings". (As it does when a suffix is added to the word "Bitcoin").

In other words, the market is arbitrating between stores of value and technologically versatile investments. Bitcoin is the latter so in that respect the one with the least tampering will be considered to have the maximum store of value. It doesn't need to support a gazillion transactions per second, it only needs to be more valuable than it was last year and support 7 transactions per second.

For performance and functionality, the market looks to either Visa or alts.
