Taking down the government?
That's what elections are for.
But obviously many people here don't believe in democracy.
You think you can win an armed fight against the majority of the people?
No.  And yes, that's what elections are for.

I'm just noting what the actual intent of the 2nd amendment is.  You can say  it's crazy, or that it isn't relevant today.  Whatever.  Doesn't matter what you think, really.

The second amendment is so that you (the majority) can take down a corrupt government, i.e. a government that does no longer adhere to the constitution. Not for a small minority to stage a coup d'etat.

You cant own any kind of firearms in EU. Only if you have a hunting license, and a specific license for your hunting weapon..
Any person in the US can get a gun in less than 2 hours.

That's incorrect, there is no common EU gun law. In Sweden for example there are three different kinds of gun licenses. Hunting, target shooting and protection. License for protection being the hardest to get, and hunting the easiest, although target shooting license for a shotgun, i.e. skeet shooting, is not hard to get. I have seven different firearms, three for hunting and the rest for target shooting, ranging from one "assault weapon" (FN FNC/Ak 5) to a Glock 22 with an additional 9 mm barrel and a revolver cal 22 lr for plinking. There are also the possibility to buy a gun manufactured before 1890 and not made for "unit cartridges".(Problably not the right word in english, but it has to be the percussion kind if you know what i mean). These guns  require no license at all and are just as deadly.

I have to correct myself, I forgot the fourth license category, collecting.

Given how much of a drought there is there, I think I will be selling cups of water for 1BTC each...

yeah i have some stocked up.. i should get even more. water is life, water is important.

california is such a shitty place to live though.. sales tax is something like %8.2ish percent, electricity bills are going up and up, and now we don't even have enough water to drink.

Sales tax in Sweden is 25%, We have plenty of water though, and fairly cheap electricity.

I don't want to be the elite, I just want to be able to answer "What do you do for a living?" with "I go on vacation."

Well, it would definitely be something you do, but I'm not sure it qualifies as "for a living".

How about "I travel, and I find various new parts of the world to explore?"

Would that be "for a living?"

Well the expression "for a living" seems to ask how you earn your money, and I suppose a person could say that s/he invests and monitors his/her investment "for a living."
Sounds good to me, I'll use that when that day comes.

I am pretty confident we will see prices near $1,000 within less than 7 weeks.  Smiley

It is a pretty precise prediction  Wink

I will go with a prediction myself then : new ATH before Mars 2015

Mars?

Thats how march is spelled in some European languages, you know, from the god and planet Mars, so, guessing he is European.

Translation:
It is much more likely that BTC will have a new ATH by next year, than for a European to be the first human on Mars by 2016.  Smiley

Of course it is more likely

I edited the post, Bitcoin is not going to Mars yet

Pesonally I think the next ATH will come next month.

just want to mark !!, hope we all can get rich after 2 years. 2 yearl later when bitcoin is 100000 per B ,i will be back..

Real value/wealth will come from gains in BTC/Gold, since $1,000,000/BTC will not matter if the Dollar is totally toilet paper.

Or, you could use another currency for exchange, like the Zimbabweans did.
There are other countries than the US you know.

the first pages of this thread are great. entertaining and inspiring reading!

One of my favorite quotes ever posted on this forum is on page 1 from billyjoeallen:
"I don't care about the busts. I am riding this pig wherever it takes me. If it tanks, I'll have a helluva story to tell. I'm sick of half measures. I'm swinging for the fences and If I strike out, so be it.  I won't be some mediocre drone living a life of quiet desperation. I believe in bitcoin and I'm going for broke, knowing the risks."

Posted on "June 04, 2011" near the peak of the first great up move.
That first Rally was so exciting since BTC prices had never moved like that before........and many of us thought BTC wasn't "about the money" but we were part of an important project to give people more freedom.*
*This can still be true for anyone, if you want it to be.

This is essentially the main difference between the traders here and the holders here.

Traders go in and out hoping to earn more fiat.

Holders are basically taking an all-or-none approach, where the amount held will either be worth a lot, or go to zero. Most holders (myself included) view every crash as an excuse/opportunity to acquire more and will never sell on the way down regardless of the price, traders on the other hand have a limit price below which the smart ones exit.

When I trade I do it to acquire more bitcoins.

The world just isn't going to be the same and we have been blessed as the pioneers.

I haven't been blessed. It was through my foresight that I saw bitcoin for how valuable it was. No man helped me along, and many discouraged me.
This is the best post in this thread. "Blessed", yuck. Blessed are those who aren't blinded by outdated bronze-age superstitions and imaginary sky-friends.[/b]

Satoshi is my favorite "imaginary sky-friend".
FYI: "Blessed" does not always require a religious context. Anyone can pause and be grateful for the positive things in their life, and those moments are vital if you want to be happy.
Edit: The primary definition of "blessed" is spiritual, so I guess I'm blessed to not be that worried about it.

I am very blessed, and I would guess you are too even though its probably not by a conscious, omniscient being. I don't think we are blessed because we found bitcoin. That was in our own right. But, we are blessed for living in a society that allowed us to do so. Half the world never even had the chance, and you are blessed to not be one of them.

"In all, 2.4 billion people lived on less than US $2 a day in 2010." -http://www.worldbank.org/en/topic/poverty/overview

If you somehow worked to secure your stature in privileged society pre-birth, please enlighten us. Otherwise, you are blessed.

I am blessed and wholeheartedly feel that way because of what you call "religious" reasons!  To be granted a complete acquittal for my sins and that not for being "a good person" but just for humbly asking after realizing I will can be good enough on my own and because of God's great love is a pretty amazing blessing, more so than any amount of Bitcoin in the world.

And on top of that, I do feel blessed for being born in America (although I don't entirely agree with everything we do in the US).  We are privileged compared to many places in the world.

But those sins are made up by the same religion that grants the complete acquittal.

Wow, what an interesting insight into how people were thinking back in 2011.

I am curious to see where the price goes during this current cycle.  Is this the beginning a new Bull run? A trap?

My personal hypothesis: By 3rd/4th quarter of this year we will see ETF's, options, leveraging, etc come into the market. Once this occurs  major Wall Street firms will start trading. This will create volume at levels never seen before and drive the price far, far higher.

(I can't wait to read this exact post 3 years from now.)

I'm posting my hypothesis again, originally posted April 17, 2014.

"It seems that bitcoin has a seven month cycle from mega bump to mega bump, it also appears to have a super dip about four months from the mega bump, and this super dip seems to be the start of the coming mega bump, with a slow rise the two first months and a steep rise the last month. If this hypothesis of mine is correct we are now leaving this cycles super dip and the next mega bump peek should be around the end of June or beginning of July.

It also seems that the price at the top of the bump is the same as the price in the dip plus a zero, and it seems to stabilize at about half the peak price until the four month super dip. So if this dip's low was 400 USD the peak should be around 4000 USD and it should stabilize at about 2000 USD until the next super dip."

So, around 4000 USD peak this time is my guess. But I will start selling at 3000.

This thread...

usually means bubble imminent.

Everyone is waiting for a huge increase in price within 6months; I think it will come within two years but it depends on a lot of factors including when the USD and US&European financial systems will crash

Like I've stated before, it moves in cycles of about seven months, and the end of June should be seven months from the top of the latest bump. So my guess is that we are now seeing the beginning of the coming bump.

And I don't think there is an imminent crash of the current economic system.

I think you're right, and I'm also pretty sure that a catastrophic economic collapse would be bad for Bitcoin and its value at this point in time. We need much more development before this baby is shatterproof.

I agree, once bitcoin is an established currency it might work as a safety net for the world economy if the fiat part of it crashes, but we are far from being there yet.
