I love your 'feet on the ground' exploration of the Hong Kong BTC scene.

Thanks, I appreciate it.
 Smiley

I agree, I enjoy these explorations and the pictures.

So what's the plan guys? If Grin works out well, bitcoin devs shove all that tech onto bitcoin?
https://github.com/mimblewimble/grin/blob/master/doc/grin4bitcoiners.md

I don’t know that you could port Bitcoin onto Grin. So it is a threat.

But their monetary policy is fuxxed.  Big mistake having an endless emissions.  Same trap Monero fell into.

So that significantly reduces the threat.

MW can be implemented on a second layer or as a sidechain with BTC I believe.

So, how many grins will ever be made?

Currently set to 50 per 60 seconds (it was going to be 60/m, but I think they finalised at 50/m).  That is not designed to change.  So it's infinite.

Well, if it's infinite it won't be worth anything. That's Economics 101.

That would be my understanding too, which has killed a lot interest that I initially had for it. However, how many other coins are like this? and how many of those have gone from low value to a high value.

Monero? But isn't their supply cut down to only 0.3 every block at some point?

Even with open ended supply it still seems that a lot of money can be made in the medium-term even if long-term it is destined for disaster.

50 every minute forever seems like a awful lot though.

Indeed, it will be the Zimbabwean dollar of crypto.

Liverpool family treats New Zealand beach like they treat their home, gets deported

https://www.odt.co.nz/news/national/tourists-speak-out-deportation-looms

Well, they are travelers, I hate those guys.
Every summer we have travelers from England driving along the countryside in Sweden trying to "fix a roof" or "Laying asphalt" or some other stuff like that. They do a bad job and ask for excessive payment and and dump their trash everywhere and threaten people who complain.
Every summer there are warnings about these guys in the paper.

And also, they speak a weird, totally incomprehensible English.

Although he's got my address so he might have come for me.

Now safely deleted from my PMs and since I can't remember what happened an hour ago your opsec is safe again. Even if baddies roasted me for hours I couldn't tell them a thing. Try to behave just in case as they may not believe me.

Thanks, but to be honest, I don't have any opsec to talk about.
I compensate by sleeping with a revolver under my pillow, problem is, I'm a heavy sleeper.

Yuh I'm dead impressed gentlemand didn't run off to Southend with Arriemoller's £1.60 +p&p. He could have settled with a gypsy woman and rubbed crystal balls while she cackled. But no, he did a trustworthy thing that one time.

He actually asked me to pay when the paper arrived, so I could have taken the paper and run.
Although he's got my address so he might have come for me.
And the post knows how to fleece you, total cost was over £7

and thats on land. the ocean is less forgiving.

Can we all move in with you? It sound very reassuring there.

In return for food, power and guns I can offer toast making, as long as it's your bread and you're not too fussy, and I'll keep my room tidy.

depends. youll have to meet our cats standards, which are much higher than ours.

you would also have to be ok with extremely loud music at all times of the day and night, mostly pink floyd, rush, lynyrd skynyrd and other southern rock, and punk. and the music the wife and i play on our instuments; hers played well and mine that sucks. plus random weapons fire at any time.

any negatives?

LOL   right?

When the guy next door to me moved in (the dude with the 69 Camaro drag car I have posted before) the first words he said to me were "hi, were your loud new neighbors".  Well, my band is in the front room, half stack, 400W of bass, drummer is a hitter, PA...we get along swimmingly.

I have always preferred to have noisy neighbours so that they don't complain if/when I want to be really noisy too. Would hate to have a "full silence lover maniac" as neighbour... especially one that wouldn't understand that the problem is theirs and should better isolate their home or buy some fucking earplugs if they are so maniac about it.
I would end up punching you in the face. Probably repeatedly. And worse if eventually getting out of prison for it was on the table.

I have this theory that humans fundamentally do not like other humans. We simply need one another to survive.

You remind me of Egill Skallagrímsson, he was an old Norse dickhead who managed to get under a lot of peoples skin and yet somehow got rich. When he got old and weak he asked his foster daughter if she would ask her husband to take him to the allthing (on Iceland), when asked why he said he wanted to spread his treasure on the ground and watch as people fought and killed each other over it (he was a bit bored, just sitting at home doing nothing). She said no, so he took his treasure chests and threw them in a swamp instead, just so no one could have them. https://youtu.be/4OwsgRcqIx0?t=1044

And talking about warriors and money.

Sounds like my kinda people. As long as the random weapons fire was responsibly directed, that is. Smiley

yup it is. i own 13 acres, all woods. my firing range has a nice hill for a backstop. outside of that i wont fire unless i absolutely have identified the target and i consider it an immediate threat. although i have fired into the air when the occasional wild dog or such shows too much interest in me or the wife.

all in all its mainly a lot of practice rounds to keep my skills honed.

Is this you? Smiley

Well, that was embarrassing, I forgot the link.

Thing is, none of that stuff happens in developed countries.

American weather is fooking mental compared to us soft Europeans. I've probably done 20-30,000 miles around the US. A lot of the time the sky was assaulting me in ways I've never experienced before.

Got my paper today, thanks.

4750 please.

Losely based om an overlay of the 2015 price.

very not used of you to pick a slightly busslish price...... is this the true moment where we reverse?? Smiley

There was a slight peak at the end of Q1 2015, I' betting that the pattern will repeat itself this year. The peak is just temporary, it will go down again before the true slow up trend.

I get (and like) everything about bitcoin with one point that is not clear to me: is credit possible in btc-based financial system?
If yes, then how? If no, it could be a limitation, albeit most people might think that this is a feature.

I enjoy short term zero % credit (as i pay my bills in full every credit card cycle).
I fully understand that it is a gimmick and most people don't do that and accumulate debt, although my personal interest payment is -1.5% (1.5% reward and NO interest).
How bitcoin can/will fight this?

I would be happy to lend my btc (on a monthly basis) to a reliable party (if there is such a thing in btc world) and get back 2-3% interest on a yearly basis, but only if interest is in btc and not fiat.
IMHO, btc lending needs to be established and sooner rather than later.

Yes you can have credit. Credit just means that someone else is paying for you.
They simply pay your bills with their own money/bitcoins and then you pay them back at the end of the month or whenever the bill is due. It's just another word for loan.

However, a real loan, over several years, would be impossible to pay back if you get paid  in fiat and would have to convert to bitcoin every payment because of bitcoins rapid deflation. But that's another question.

Being a relatively newer BTC fan, I though I'd visit a few random pages of the past in this HUUUUGE thread and see the reactions of people from past rallies and selloffs, so here are some quotes, enjoy! Wink

BTC Rallies up to 145$ during the April 2013
What the heck is going on. This is unreal!!! At this rate we will be 200+ in a few days.

Freakin' thing is going parabolic.  Again.

Guys listen...

WTF!!!

Its up $10 in like 2 minutes???

How the fuck am i supposed to sleep. This is the biggest rally ever. Period.

It falls to 83$ on May 3rd
So long as there are entities with 10k+ btc it seems risky to me to be holding btc for any significant length of time during the start of a downtrend.

Agreed ... thats why I prefer to take a small loss and walk away than to sit with a position that was intended to be short term and did not pan out

(This is golden!!)
So now almost everyone is a bear? Investor cycle says we are going up then.  Tongue

And on May 6th it indeed went up at 123$, but on May 8th it fell a bit at 112$ and...
Shorting BTC is starting to be available on different platforms. When that spreads, we will see more downward pressure.

I am shorting it... and I know it will fall. Its just making all of you a fool

There is no BTC reality. Currency value equals to amount of gold it holds. BTC has nothing to back itself. No Equity. Pure liquid capital investement. When the anonymous japanese runs away with all your money.... people will cry here

On November we had a huge rally without a correction; On November 9th BTC was at 359$.
(Some articles praised BTC as a great investment)
Why not pour some petrol on the fire:

http://blogs.marketwatch.com/thetell/2013/11/08/secondmarkets-bitcoin-investment-trust-puts-bitcoin-in-iras/

"Interest in the Bitcoin Investment Trust is coming from technology entrepreneurs, family offices and people on Wall Street. Some family offices are beginning to put a portion of their gold allocation into bitcoin Silbert said. "

On November 19th BTC hits a peak of 750$. People were mixed back then.
China unfazed. Rally resumes.
ive dumped. Gettin off this train before it derails!
Bears want this rally to be like April. What they forget is that if this is like that rally, we are headed for well over $1k.
Ok, I bought back in.

BTC crash in 3.....2......1....
Cause that's just my luck

And the next day it crashed to 482$!
Is this the final blow to bitcoin?
Have we officially gone now from correction to full blown bubble collapse?
Right now people are clinging for dear life onto the crazy november trendline. I guess when that breaks.. we go to the october trendline? That would be around $300.

However these were 1 to 2 days sell-offs, not a year long bear market like today. People use to be optimistic when the sell-off lasts a few hours or a week.
Even though I've selected some posts that show a sentiment opposite to the price's direction following a few days later, many others were showing an optimism after every dip.

Where did all those old timers go? Tera is the only one I have seen here recently, and even she is gone now.

Belgian paper..... btc for her life 9 milion € worth ( except they asked monero)

Those papers..... n00bs

Wait, guys you're trying to say you're still reading "paper" newspapers? The last time I read one was like ~10 years ago. Always wondered who's buying those traditional newspapers now.    Grin

Reading real newspapers is becoming a thing for the elite, due to its high price and the fact that the masses don't do it anymore.
