Vicabtc is closing end of september. this is just a start of shutdowns in China. Lets wait for others to follow.
Panic sells didn't start for now. lets wait for panic sells. Then we will start to buy at bottoms.

As I understand, the Chinese exchanges just need another license, it used to be labeled asset trading but now it is labeled currency trading. some of the trading platforms will not be applying for the new license and is shutting down.
Unfortunately China will continue to annoy us it seems.

And that tells me you haven't taken economics 101.
How, prey tell, is a price determined?

Nothing is determined. You can have my morning turd...its unique and supply is limited to one.
Its price only depends on the amount of turd collectors. Same with bitcoin. As long as you find always new believers the rocket will fly.
A healthy economy needs some amount of inflation. Why should I buy something if my currency is more worth tomorrow. Yes I know this argument has a beard but enlighten me.

there is far better tech that will provide complete anonymity, and this tech can and will be added on top of bitcoin. ( third layer?? ahaha!)
right now things like Ether and Monero, bcash, they have an edge, somthing that adds utility and sets them apart.
but sooner then you realize, bitcoin will have better solutions then anyone of these altcoins... and then what are these altcoin worth? not a fucking thing....

Sure, "Bitcoin" has its name on it. This is a huge advantage and the fact that altcoins are currently traded with regard to its worth in Bitcoin as a base currency. That might fade. We'll see.

"Nothing is determined" yes it is, by supply and demand. if nobody wants to buy your turd the price is zero, as determined by the lack of demand.
And if you want to know how an economy without inflationary currency works, then study the Austrian school of economics, again, it's obvious that you know very little to nothing about economics.

Hey guys, I'm an investor but I missed the biggest investment in the last decade so let me tell you why that investment is wrong....

And also...blockchain is the next big thing! Don't miss out.

some people are just hilarious

I never said it is wrong only the wrong rationale Wink - I have invested 1% of my savings - which is fine regarding the risk/reward ratio.

It's "inherent technological design" is the blockchain. So the blockchain is "revolutionary technology" but it's broken? You are contradicting yourself. Unfortunately, most of these cryptocurrencies we have now are based on the blockchain concept, and have the same flaws.

By "technological design" I meant how transactions are currently processed and confirmed,
the hard limit on supply (which makes believers think the price will skyrocket) and the fact that everybody can know what I have in my wallet.

There are already several coins which solve some of this problems, e.g. Monero.

And that tells me you haven't taken economics 101.

I don't know Why but i Just want to make same ATH guess like last time
Rules ....: the one  with the right date of ATH gets .25 btc paid directly  (UTC time)    (closest to ATH.....)
I look to Every page in here from now When a date is picked first iT cannot been taken again ( 1st =1st)
Another .25 btc is rewarded for ho makes best of technical analyse of the time When we strike ATH.... and Why iT happens at that time.....
So This .25 also only to been payed 1 time .... and not 2 times te same explanation.... (1st =1st)

Both answers to win must been inside before 20-09-2017
Goodluck to the ones that like This  Roll Eyes

November 19

That was taken, so november 18 instead, reason everything else is taken.

satoshi's (who is dead by the way)

Evidence?

For all practical purposes, he is dead.

<<blather blather blather -ed>>

Retraction of indefensible assertion duly noted.

Apparently, you have made an executive decision that my actual response was not important, and you would rather just summarize my response as a supposed "retraction."... yeah.. right.   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

So  "dead" and "For all practical purposes, he is dead." are synonyms to you?

Aren't you ignoring the fact that the  two previous bubbles were artificialy made by MtGox?
After Gox closed the price just went down to where it should have been, and would have been, had there never been a MtGox.

Now hold on a minute, let's flesh this out.  You believe the Willy bot produced the 2013 spikes?  What is your basis for this?

I don't know exactly how Marc did it.
But the price on Gox was alway higher than on all other exchanges, making all other follow. And when gox went away, so did the bubbles.
My guess would be that he just made the figures up, Willys part in that is unknown to me.

/ignore

To be fair, the (increasingly large) logarithmic spike followed by an (increasingly long) 75% retractment is, probably the, defining long term pattern of Bitcoin.  Personally I think this log spike has quite a bit more to go.  Actually, I think it is just getting started.  But BNM has correctly identified the pattern.

Guys this dip has me in quite the predicament.

I got a scratch on my lambo and before I would have just bought a new one because why not right?

Now I am deciding between having it sent back to the factory for a full body replacement or if the dip goes further I will have to have to resort to how the common folk fix this...full paint job.

 Cry

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xL2HIuJR43A

Thats how common folks do it.
Personaly I just buy a can of paint that is somewhat in the same nuance and spray. Then again, my car is a diarrhea brown Volvo 144 from 1980.
I was thinking maybe buying a vanity plate, but that would actually cost more than the car.
But it's a great car, no freaking electronics that breaks down, and no car tax due to it being a veteran.

btw is there any real possibility of both bitcoins going upwards? Like some kind of cooperation/competition without offenses flying over our heads.
Just asking, not a tech person
Maybe this hasn't to be bad at the end, for either "side"

Both Bitcoins?

There is one Bitcoin and one Altcon.

Yep. That's the situation right now. And they are fighting for dominance

Both have certain properties and it has not to be a death struggle. Or is it? That was my question. Or perhaps I should ask if we are Homo Sapiens Sapiens, who are ready for this changes. The revolution has to be decentralized

Edit: btw WTF happened on kraken chart on 26/8? glitchy

I'm a Hetero Sapiens

Why all the chat about Risto guys?

I miss the guy.

Miss him? He was active on bitcointalk today and posted only a few days ago. He hasn't gone anywhere has he?

What thread?
3653  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 02, 2017, 05:55:45 PM
Ok I will say it.
$7550 by the end of the year and $16000 by the end 2018.

I played a bit with the charts and did some pure speculation (imagined 2% of the world population using Bitcoin, ETFs approved and such).

It's always good to write down our goals. Sometimes we reach them Wink

Ok, here's mine. Long term btc har doubled in price visavi dollar every eight months. Last year btc doubled , this year it has, so far, doubled in price every four months, if it keeps doubling every four months I predict 10000USD
by new year, 20000 by may first, 40000 by September first and 80000 by next new year.

Having said that, the last time I posted a prediction was in early december 2014, and we all know what happened after that.

EDIT: I mean of course early January 2014

The story is that he lost 700000 XMR worth about 20500 XBT on his Apple laptop. I am not a fan of Apple and its EULA's but this has to be a record for a click on "I agree".

wtf has apple to do with it?

Probably nothing. As I recall, he had a bunch of people over and overlooked the most basic aspects of physical security. Then again, I may be misrememberating.

Not good to make fun of the misfortunes of others; however, I recall that Risto had some other drama a few years earlier, too... something about leaving his laptop in a conference room of a hotel and then the laptop went missing with thousands of bitcoins.  Isn't this a repeating theme with Risto, and if it were to happen once, then wouldn't additional security measures be taken in order to not have a similar scenario unfold a second time?

I think that is the incident to which I was referring. Though I think it was in the sauna at his place during an event with many invitees. I may be befuddled on the deets.

Actually, do you know how rumors can be evolve their own legs when they get batted around long enough, and it is like the game "telephone" where the last message is no where close to the first message.

It is certainly true that Risto has had a lot of drama including losing bitcoins, buying a castle, getting involved in monero, getting a divorce, being supposedly chased by the government.. and some kind of online gaming, too, so yeah, it is not very clear regarding the extent to which some of these stories might overlap, and he has been a bit of a drama queen, too, including some photos that he circulated on the internet of his personal circumstances, and even personal details that may or may not be completely true.

He has also had some incidents of health problems including psychiatric treatment, and I recall one time trying to suggest that he take better care of his health, because I saw a picture of him with a cigar and he looked really pale and unhealthy and lacking in athleticism - for a fairly young guy.

Anyhow, the laptop losing incident in the conference/hotel/sauna predated his getting involved in Monero, so if he really did lose a bunch of Monero, then that may have been a separate incident?

I believe that the hotel/sauna/conference loss, even though substantial, did not leave him in any kind of state of poverty, because, I think that he bought the castle after that with bitcoins... and maybe in the end, he tries to be a big baller and we know the expression that a fool and his money are soon parted... and if you are engaging in a lot of this kind of drama, then you are likely going to have trouble hanging onto wealth, unless you have someone managing your money for you, such as a trust.

Don't worry about the paleness, he's from Finland, they are all pale like snow ghosts.

I too am curios about the details. I liked Ristos posts back in the days. More info please.

He lost all his Monero, his wife divorced him, and he went completely, batshit crazy (again). He was apparently having quite a bit of financial difficulty, and was indebted to a bunch of people, so he may not even have many BTC left.

It's too bad. He seems like a pretty good guy most of the time.

How did he loose his Monero?

Yeah, he did indeed seem like a nice guy. Didn't he own a castle in Estonia?

Well, it certainly beats my stash!  Cheesy That's what I get for being a dabbler. However, I do make slightly more per year than 9 BTC. But with the way things have been looking lately, 9 BTC will surpass my yearly job income very soon. Yeah, I know, I'm languishing in near poverty.

I didn't mean to imply I'm any better off. But it's important to keep your composure around rich folks.

Most of the Bitcoin whales are Lower Upper class right now.( The nouveau riche.) No need to treat them like royalty.  Cheesy

Now sleep.

Congratulations, all the best to you!

This will be a Fiat race tomorrow. In Europe today is public holiday so no banks are working. IŽam expecting loads of money flooding the exchanges tomorrow  Cheesy
This would be a nice dip to buy...

No public holiday in Sweden, what holiday are you talking about?

Already mentioned that a little later. To correct myself: In the important parts of Europe is public holiday today  Tongue (just joking)

Don't know about the "important" part, but you catholics do have a lot more holidays than we do, Luther did away with way too many saints. But still, what holiday is it?

Ascension of Mary

Thanks.
