In order to earn .1 BTC per day, a user would have to complete over 28,000 captchas. Is this even humanly possible?
1602  Economy / Economics / Re: Why did Liberland chose Bitcoins? on: July 04, 2015, 11:49:40 PM
Liberland is still a thing? I thought it was more of an announcement than anything. Did anyone actually move there?

Either way the micronation is too irrelevant to have much effect on the nature of Bitcoin.
1603  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or gold? on: July 04, 2015, 11:48:29 PM
I would invest in both. Bitcoin, in my opinion, is more likely to gain a larger amount of value over the next 10 years, but is also a much riskier investment than gold, for obvious reasons.
1604  Economy / Economics / Re: Forget Greece. What About China??? on: July 04, 2015, 11:47:18 PM
Forget China. What About Venezuela???

I recently saw a comment made by a Venezuelan that transfered all of his Venezuelan dollars to Bitcoin. Throughout his holdings, the official exchange rate of the Venezuelan money to USD dropped from 4.8:1 to 6.8:1. This sounds bad enough, but the real exchange rate that is recognized in the black market dropped from 150:1 to 480:1. By holding Bitcoin, he effectively tripled his money in local currency. Although he most likely did not gain triple the value on his investment, he was able to prevent losing more than 66% of his life savings due to a faulty currency.
1605  Economy / Economics / Re: Can bitcoin really save Greece? on: July 04, 2015, 11:43:31 PM
I saw an interesting post on the Bitcoin subreddit recently. The OP was arguing that Bitcoin could not save the people of Greece, but could be used to support the merchants and sellers within the country. The idea is that us Bitcoin users worldwide should be making an attempt to purchase Greek goods with our Bitcoin, as the local currency is, obviously, falling apart. I think this is precisely the role that Bitcoin should be playing in Greece.
1606  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin really unbreakable? on: July 04, 2015, 11:40:52 PM
Nothing is permanent. It is very possible that something pops up down the road that will overtake Bitcoin. As of now there is no competition, but a superior cryptocurrency could gain massive popularity at some point down the road and make BTC obsolete.

Is cloudthink still open? I just went to sign up but after looking at the most recent comments it appears its participants are not being paid out.

1609  Economy / Gambling / Re: Big Brother Betting Pool? on: June 22, 2015, 06:26:13 AM
I watch it also like a decade ago when it first came out. The first season was probably interesting but like "Who wants to be a millionaire" it became very old very fast.

Regarding the betting, I doubt there will be a pool because the show is filmed in advance and people can cheat if they know the producers of the show.

I think you are mistaken, Big Brother is live. The season progresses on TV at the same rate as in the house.
1610  Economy / Gambling / Re: Big Brother Betting Pool? on: June 22, 2015, 04:00:37 AM
For clarity, I am talking about the BB US season that is starting in a few days. The idea was that the betting would work the same as bithorse.co - you place a bet on an individual houseguest that you think will win the game. At the end of the season, the prize pool will be split between everyone who bet on said contestant proportionate to their bets.

For example, the total prize pool is 1 BTC. Let's say, Vanessa wins. Two players bet on Vanessa, one bet .09 BTC, and the other bet .01. The first player, who made up 90% of the bets for Vanessa, earns .9 BTC. The other earns .1 BTC.

Regardless, there doesn't seem to be much interest, and with only a few days until the season begins, I think I'm going to keep this one on the drawing boards.
1611  Economy / Gambling / Big Brother Betting Pool? on: June 21, 2015, 06:05:58 AM
After posting a thread, and checking current prediction sites, there does not seem to be a good option available to the Bitcoin community for betting on Big Brother.

As a gambler and a Big Brother fan, I would be interested in organizing a betting pool of sorts- participants can place a bet on the houseguest of their choice. At the end of the season, the entire pool would be divided proportionally and handed out to all users who placed a bet on the actual winner.

Before I decided to conduct this, I would need to see if there is any support for such a betting pool. Obviously, if there are no BB fans outside of myself, this project would be a failure.

I would also like help on this sort of thing. I have never hosted any such betting pool before. What is a good way to go about using escrow? What would be a fair commission (if any)? What would be a fair minimum bet? How long into the season should I accept bets?

If you have any suggestions, or if you are interested, please reply below. Thanks!
1612  Economy / Gambling / Re: Is There a Site to Gamble on Big Brother? on: June 21, 2015, 05:58:48 AM
AFAIK at BetMoose you can create bets on special events that are not listed on other betting sites, I haven't used betmoose so kindly do your research before sending any money to the site. And I think there might be 1-2 more sites like it which allow you to create bets on events which are not covered elsewhere.

You can also start a thread here, maybe some BigBrother fans will take some bets, but for that you'd have to arrange for an escrow.

I just checked out Betmoose, they only allow for a maximum of 5 betting options. I'm going to make a thread to gauge interest for a betting system.

I love to gamble and I also enjoy Big Brother. With the season starting in just a few days, I was wondering if there were any Bitcoin sites out there that allow me to bet on the winners? Thanks.

Nope, IMO its not worth it coz it may have a small bet volume plus waiting for the result is takes so long.

That's true, but aren't there prediction markets out there that specialize in this type of thing? I remember seeing one where you could bet on the winner of the 2016 election.

Hello, I want to make a thread for my satirical Bitcoin news site, truucoin.com. I want to make a single thread with updates when new articles are posted. Because of this format, I do not believe it belongs in the press section. What is the most appropriate forum for this thread?

Off Topic?

Didn't even think of Off Topic, but that might be the best place it would fit.

EDIT: What about general Bitcoin discussion?
