381  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible to increase the amount of bitcoins? on: November 01, 2017, 06:24:14 PM
As far as I know it is possible, but the question is why would anyone do it? The bitcoin protocol is open, so you can change the code and create a fork to change things. Two coins will be created and people can choose which way to go. If such a fork would occur, I don't think anyone would follow that new coin. Bitcoin price is defined by supply and demand, so if you increase it's supply it's price will drop, so no point in doing that.
382  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Myths on: November 01, 2017, 06:04:04 PM
I have nothing against that article but I'm not sure it's that accurate as well.
....

As for the scalability problem, there are some coins that can already perform more transactions that visa, and bitcoin will also be able to do it once the lightning network get implemented. That's why the segwit was implemented for. To bypass this blockchain issue. You can get more information about this on this article: https://cointelegraph.com/news/how-sharding-based-blockchains-could-handle-more-transactions-than-visa

It's a good article, and I agree with him when he says that it's important to look at the upside and downsides of the technology, but the network is still evolving, and most o the problems he mentioned are being worked on.
Can you elaborate on how some other crypto (or lightning bitcoin) already can transact as fast as visa. I
have great doubts about this claim.

If bitcoin could be made to work as fast as Visa, then I think it would not be the same "bitcoin" that
has been marketed to us... ".. the best thing brought to us ...since the Ten Commandments...".
The "proof_of_ work" technology which everyone is now is hyping about now will ensure that bitcoin will
never be daily money for payments.

I didn't said that bitcoin could do it. It will be able to do it, when the lightning network gets developed, but as stated in the article I linked, there are some coins that can do it already, or are very close to it. Visa has around 2000 tps, and as stated in the article, you already have "IOTA with 500-800 tps", you have "NEO with 1000 tps", and apparently "the Blockchain platform Zilliqa demonstrated the capacity of processing 2488 tps" (as stated in the article).

So yes there are solutions for the scalability problem out there, and some more on the way.
So since the article the OP posted was intended to debunk myths, we can't really allow for new ones to arise. We can't just look the the upside, but we cant' just look to the downside as well. We need to stay informed in order to get the whole picture.
383  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Myths on: October 31, 2017, 10:24:00 PM
I have nothing against that article but I'm not sure it's that accurate as well.

First it starts by saying "Bitcoin has been used for criminal activities far too often". I think we should all move pass that argument against bitcoin. The majority of people using bitcoin aren't criminals, and really believe that fiat is used way more often by criminals than bitcoin. But even if criminals wanted to use crypto, they have far better solutions for that, like monero or zcash. He is perpetuating a myth himself by saying that.

He also says later in the same article "Alternatively, if I paid back my friend for some lemonade, I would thus let him know everything about my finances". This doesn't look like something like criminals would like to use.

As for the electricity problem, he is correct. Bitcoin's network spends 40 times more electricity than the entire visa network. Apparently it costs around the equivalent of 20 barrels of oil to create a single coin. That is not good, but that is a problem that could be solved or minimized with the use of renewable energy, or mining in cold places, since it will there would be no need to spent electricity for cooling purposes.

384  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will happen if all 21 Million BTC are mined? on: October 30, 2017, 10:48:44 PM
I'm not sure it works exactly like that. I think miners have two incentives from supporting the network right now. One is to discover new blocks and get the reward from it, and the other is collecting the fees from the transactions. I think transactions fees will still be collected by miners even if all bitcoins are mined. So the question actually is, will the fees alone be enough for the miners to keep providing their service.

To be honest I think there will be no problem at all. First that will only happen in more than 100 years from now, so two things probably happened by then. One, is that mining hardware have evolved enough, and it's not so costly tu support the network, second, bitcoin price is so high that the fees are more than enough to keep them active.
385  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Novaexchange will close on: October 30, 2017, 10:40:16 PM
I hope everyone get this email today.
My question is what effect it will bring to the market?
Bitcoin price go down? Or its just a little exchange?

I don't think it will have any effect on the market. If it was coinbase or Bitfinex or bitFlyer, or any other big exchange, it might have an impact assuming people would cash out, and not just withdraw their coins to a wallet or directly to another exchange. If you check coinmarketcap, novaexchange is not even responsible for 1% of bitcoin trading in the last 24h. I wont be even noticed. Anyway is good to see how they are handling this. They are letting everyone know with plenty of time, and allowing it's users to withdraw their funds. This provides trust to the market, so it might actually have a positive impact on the price. But like I said, I really think it will have no impact at all.
386  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 5000 Bitcoins for a Pizza - The most famous story in Bitcoin history on: October 29, 2017, 09:21:20 PM
Yes I have already heard that story. Two pizzas bought by a dev, that will now remain in history as the most "expensive" pizzas ever bought.
Of course this also says a lot about the current use of bitcoin as a currency, or as a way to buy things. It's really hard to do it, because of it's volatility, I don't thin the dev regrets buying those pizzas, but for other people that don't have to much bitcoin, spending them, and then seeing their price increase, must be hard.
387  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2016/17 on: October 29, 2017, 09:17:34 PM
I can't blame Zidane, I really like him as a coach, and the team was doing great until now. It had an amazing last year, and it's quite hard to understand what  is going on now, but I wont start blaming the coach, because he already proved he is a damn good coach. Don't know if there are some internal problems, when a team has starts having bad results like this in an inexplicable way it normally represents internal problems with the players.
Conceding 9 goals in 10 games is to much for a Top team like Real Madrid, so it could also be a problem with their defense.
388  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC FUD on: October 28, 2017, 09:11:08 PM
Has anyone noticed every time bitcoin increase its value some of the big guys come to say how bitcoin is bubble, people don't know what they are doing, people will lose money and so on, and every time bitcoin decreases its value they all become quiet?
In my opinion they are all big manipulators and no one should pay any attention on what they say.

Of course they are. Bitcoin hurts them because it interferes with their line of business, and it takes away many of the power and control they possess right now. They have all the reasons to try to manipulate the population, in pathetic attempts to keep the price low and shut down bitcoin. The think is, that no one really pays attention to them, and for all that is worth, they are just proving that BTC is huge, and it has a great future ahead.
389  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Satoshi Nakamoto Alive on: October 28, 2017, 09:08:32 PM
If Satoshi Nakamoto is a person and alive, wont he come out and claim the fame and success his invention has achieve so far?

Why would he do that? If he is alive, and since he has a huge amount of bitcoins, that he got from the genesis block, then it's better that no one knows his identity. He would get attention from all types of people and institutions. I mean who knows? Criminals might want to kidnap him because of his bitcoin, FBI, CIA would be all over him as well, he would have no chances of getting a normal life.
390  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: why should governments allow bitcoin to continue grow? on: October 28, 2017, 09:02:42 PM
hi there
I wonder why should governments allow bitcoin to continue growing?
after all, they want to have control over the money that we are using

Well they can't really ban bitcoin, so they better try to regulate it, and get some taxes out of it. If they completely ban bitcoin, the only people that will probably stop using it, are those that already follow the law. So in other words, bitcoin would completely move underground, and they would have no control over it. So what's the point in pushing away those that wont give them any problems when they use bitcoin, and make it even harder to catch those that they are trying to stop.
391  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Portuguese League Prediction Thread (Primeira Liga) on: October 23, 2017, 08:27:39 PM
Moreirense  vs Sporting Braga
In sixteen games between the two sides, Sporting Braga has won seven games whiles Moreirense has won just three games. They have played six draws between them so far, Braga has won their last three games whiles Moreirense are without a win in their last three games. I am predicting goals over 2.5 in this game.

I tried to watch the game, but I got bored. It's hard to score when there is just when team trying to do so. Moreirense  clearly wanted just the draw, and did everything they could to get it. It's quite sad to see that, when a team is playing a home, but they are not very strong and just wanted to gain some precious points to survive on the league.

I'm quite surprised with the game between Guimarăes and Portimonense. Guimarăes is losing at home, and although they are not doing that well  this season, they are normally a very strong team at their stadium. I would really like to put some coins on the home or draw, since there is still a lot of time to play, but I guess it's to risky now.
392  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What should I do on: October 22, 2017, 09:07:08 PM
I really think you should cash out, buy some real coins through an exchange, and withdraw those coins to a wallet and leave it there, so you know you will get the free coins from the bgold fork, and then the segwit2x fork. It will free money from both of them, so why keep your coins in an exchange, and risk not getting anything from the forks?
393  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it actually worth buying btc of 50€? on: October 22, 2017, 09:02:39 PM
Sure, why not? It's not a big investment, but if you do it for the long run, then it might turn out well. Everyone talks about the halve in 2020, so those 50 euro might end up becoming quite valuable if things go well. You could of course go to an alt. I still think ether also has some good potencial, if ICOs keep popping, so you might get even higher profits there. But right now, since there will be two bitcoins forks, go for BTC since you will get some dividends of those 50 euros right away.
394  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Portuguese League Prediction Thread (Primeira Liga) on: October 22, 2017, 08:57:21 PM
Two penalties which were both converted by Jonas and a third goal from Haris Seferovich was all that Benfica needed to secure an away victory against Deportivo Aves, everyone including the players of Aves knew without doubt that defeat was inevitable in this game.

Yes their win came with no surprise I guess. Aves is having a really hard start this season with just one victory in 9 games. Benfica was having some hard time on away games, but Aves was no match for them. I'm surprised with the outstanding victory from both Porto and now Sporting. They seem quite strong this season on the Portuguese league.
395  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Airdrop on: October 21, 2017, 09:08:32 PM
Hello everyone,

I'm just learning about the Airdrop coins,  I missed out on a lot because I had my coins in an exchange. Can someone direct me in the right direction to get the up coming bitcoin gold and other Airdrop coins.  Thank you in advance

Check out this site, this is what I normally use to get information on upcoming airdrops: https://airdropalert.com/
You can of course check the Alternate cryptocurrencies board, and check the Announcements (Altcoins) thread. You can usually find many airdrops there. They go out fast, but maybe you can still get your hands on some of them.

Yes it's going happening on this month 23rd, if you have 1 btc you Will get some amount of bitcoin gold so don't not miss this.
you need at least 1 bitcoin to get bitcoin gold Huh?

Of course not. They will take a snapshot of the network, and will give the bgold on a 1:1 ratio.
396  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin reaches a record level, surpassing $ 6,000 on: October 21, 2017, 09:05:07 PM
Bitcoin reached record value Friday, exceeding the $ 6,000 threshold, and reaching a total capitalization of over $ 100 billion, as investors continue to look optimistically at this virtual currency, which exists in limited quantities and which has opened the way for several  ... More

People are getting more confidant about bitcoin, but that's not all of course. I think the principal reason that is driving the rise in the price are the upcoming forks. There are some exchanges listing segwit2x close to $1k, just like it happened with bcash, and I don't think bgold will be worth that much but it's still free money, so people will try to grab it of course. I just hope that once the forks happen, and people collect their alts, will just trade them to BTC.
397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: What exchanges will support Bitcoin Gold? on: October 21, 2017, 08:58:15 PM
Have you tried their site? They have some exchanges listed there, and they keep updating it. For instance, they only had one wallet on their ecosystem, guarda I think, but I'm not sure, and now they have coinomi as well, which is good because I like that one.

As for your question, you already said Yobit, and I think BitStar was already on their list, last time I checked, but I don't remember seeing bitpay there, and now they will support it apparently. There are 6 more exchanges listed there, but I don't really know them.
398  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin to be Taxed...... on: October 19, 2017, 05:23:25 PM
This is interesting could be a mass following with this. South Korea is preparing to Tax bitcoin use after the cryptocurrency's trading volume sky-rocked. This could spark a new trend s everyone battels to see how to control the life of cryptocurrency's

I have no problem with crypto being taxed, and to be honest I hope it does. It's a fair trade, if by paying taxes we get to see a huge increase in investment and adoption of crypto, which would probably happen. Right now the only fear is that bitcoin is a bubble and it will burst. Government support and recognition, although not needed would completely erase that fear, and BTC would get huge.
399  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Which coin can go to $100 next year? on: October 19, 2017, 05:19:22 PM
Which coin can go to $100 in 2018, like Eth it was worth $12 in 2016 and now its reached to $391 max price.

I want to invest in some coins.

An "easy" answer would be Waves and NEO, since they have similar concepts as ethereum, but on the other hand, that might just actually be a problem in the future for their adoption. I keep reading that NEO will be huge if regulation in China goes well, since they will probably get mass adoption there and might become the real competition for ethereum. Of course that if regulation doesn't go well, then they will probably be worthless.
400  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: 50 Bitcoins in 1 Year Blog. Thoughts? on: October 19, 2017, 05:12:03 PM
That's a really good idea and yes, I would follow your website for sure. I assume you are planning in placing some adds in the website for some extra profit, and maybe referral links for the trading platforms you will be using right? Because if not, I think that doing a record of your trades in the forum would also be a good idea, and there would be no need for the site. I think that the discussing about your trades would be easier in a forum than on a website.
