Be really careful if you're thinking about panicking right now.

..what could I see in this graph, RSI, if I knew how to interpret it?

I think the order will go something like this

1. ASICs arrive, panic mining ensues
2. Market is flooded with btc that are freshly mined and prices drop
3. Difficulty spikes massively, supply begins to dip severely and prices go up.
4. The other people who ordered start getting orders and then lots of people are mining on ASICs and now difficulty jumps dramatically but so does supply and whatever price the btc were at when this phase hits will equalize the cost for a week or so until prices go nuts again on next difficulty change.

panic, flood, massively, dramatically, nuts?
Yes, that pretty much sums up whats going on with Bitcoin! :-)

Where can I see the orderbook?
Normally I use http://bitcoin.clarkmoody.com/ which I love. Unfortunately it doesn't work here, behind a proxy..
Would like to see both the orders as well as the sum, but orders only is better than nothing. Where did the mtgox one go?

Ente

http://mtgoxlive.com/orders

Thanks.. No joy behind a proxy unfortunately..
Mtgox is lagging as hell, and I have not enough live data available.. Frustrating!

Why does everybody care about goat so much?

I don't think most people care about Goat.  What they want to know is whether there's some new, unwritten rule we all need to avoid breaking.

That's the point.

The plunge, with less than 10k volume? Wow!

So I bought back in at 11.85$. What shall I do? Selling now with a loss? Hoping it will go down to get back to zero again? Or just sit it out?

Having all bans/suspensions automatically publicized isn't a very good idea. You're thinking in terms of accountability, but completely forgetting about people's privacy in the process. If poster x gets a week off for posting My Little Pony porn, do you really think that's any of your or anyone else's business? If the poster chooses to make it public that's fine. But that's his choice to make, not yours.

I see your point.
Of course it isn't that easy to make anything public once you're banned..
Well, maybe create a subforum "drama and banned" or the like, where anyone may post? Banned people, non-registered people, you name it. This will be hell of a shityard. And, when that is installed, move everything there which belongs there! :-)

Also, when a ban is set, the responsible mod/admin should post stating that he banned some user and which rule was broken.

lolwut
You're not a member in many forums, I see... On 90% of the forums I have an account with they ban anyone who just asks why someone else was banned. They don't even get the chance to question the reasons, unlike here, where it seems to be an habit to start a shitstorm because someone else was banned.
Moderators and Administrators owe you no explanation for their decisions or actions when those decisions and actions don't affect you, even if you think they do owe you something.
No one forced you to register, and if you don't like to be here no one forces you to stay. Just press the logout button and go.

..glad you are no mod then.

Ente

errrmmm... yes, I am...
And the only persons I owe explanations for my actions as a Janitor are Administrators and maybe Global Moderators.

"Other forums are worse" is a bad reason to do something bad.. ;-)
Seems like you do a better job than other forums then. Good!

1) Set clear rules about when and for how long to halt/ban someone

2) Have one central thread where each case is announced (and except that the thread stays locked)

This is the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM. Of course then I still don't like that (in my opinion) baseless banning. But these two points at least set you one step above despotism.

I decided that he harms discussions too much to be allowed to continue. He posts more than Atlas and his posts are of lower quality. When he argues about something, he ignores all of the arguments of his opponents and just repeats the same nonsense over and over. I suspect that he may be intentionally trying to stir up drama in order to hurt the forum and the community.

The ban will not expire automatically. I may review it later.

I am disappointed.
This is a horrible reason to ban someone.

I had goat on ignore since a while. Problem solved for me.
Atlas derails threads? Then too many people still read him. If they don't ignore him, they obviously are not interested in removing him from the forum altogether.

I already abandoned a forum as a senior member when censorship started.. I am worried and pretty surprised.. Here, in my Bitcoin forum? Really?

When block 209999 is found the countdown starts: "600, 600, 600, 600, ... Happy block year!"

Smiley

What will be the 1st block with 25 BTC reward? 210000 or 209999? The same issue as with a millennium.

Except math and hard-coded rules are clear and easy to read up by anyone.
Actually.. I don't know! heh

I guess you meant block number 210000 or 210001?

Or:
Do we celebrate the last 50 BTC block, or the first 25 BTC block?
Whatever, I stick to the number with the many zeroes. Bitcoiners like zeroes! :-)

..to clarify my
I received several alerts already

I asked to only receive individual alerts for big changes and imminent events. That's why I received only "several" alerts, because I asked for that.

Which means: Talk to Yuhfhrh about your ideas and needs, he surely will help you out with your individual alert scheme, in case you need more or less than his outstanding "regular" service!  Grin

1617  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Iran can't print paper, guy tells them to use BitCoin on: October 23, 2012, 07:11:45 AM

I dont get it. His mother spent USD(!) in such a complicated way for her son to aquire bitcoins? Why didnt he just go buy some on cavirtex.com himself?

In the beginning, the mother in Iran has USD, the student in a far away land has no money.

A couple hours later, the mother does not have the cash, but the student has USD which he can now use to buy his food and pay rent.

Bitcoins were just a part of the conduit bringing the money from the parent to the student, but can you think of another way to get money transfered so quickly?

Not just quickly, but cheaply, and the entire process avoided all banks except for the hawala guy in the unnamed country who deposited local money to the exchange. Iranian students here told me the only way to get money out of Iran is physically flying it out of the country or paying huge fees to these same hawala guys to send a wire transfers overseas, but they won't do it for less than $5k and giant fees so anything smaller is just not getting out. In this situation the guy here received $2500 CAD worth of coins and only paid $20 or so in middle man fees which I was shocked, thought it would cost a lot more

The guy who bought them here just paid regular gox spot price for them, I didn't ask what he wanted $2500 worth of bitcoins for but I'm assuming it has something to do with importing psychedelics off SR to sell on campus, so it was win all around: Iranian student can eat, the rest of us get some quality dutch acid

Now that's a huge sucess story! Bitcoin really shows how to shine here!

Which gave me an idea: how about "bitcoinsucess.com" or "bitcoinstories.com" or simply a blog, where such case studies are collected? One central place to combine efforts! Then we only need those translated in a few languages and point all students, families, everyone there!
20$ total fees on a 2500$ transfer? In a matter of hours? Around shady governmental embargos? YEEEHAW!

1620  Economy / Services / Re: Introducing the Bitcoin 100: A Kickstarter for Charities on: October 22, 2012, 06:49:32 PM

This time I don't have a leg to stand one. I (Bruno) take full responsibility for the inaction of Bitcoin 100, offering up no excuses.

That said, if in 30 days we (mostly I) do not obtain a charity to accept Bitcoin as a payment option as outlined by Bitcoin 100 terms, then by all means all funds currently on deposit should be returned to those who've donated.

CornedBeefHash, among others, have been more than patient in this regard.

Somebody, please quote this post for posterity. Meanwhile, I have a letter to pen, for I have a charity in mind that just might add Bitcoin as a payment option to its donation page.

Thank again, CBH, for bringing this back to the forefront.

~Bruno K~

I strongly disagree.
We now have everything set up: Webpage, publicity on bitcointalk, donators, even our first success!
Even if we don't find NGOs accepting Bitcoin donations in the speed we like to, any additional NGO found will help our cause.
So even if it takes months for each additional NGO, I say lets do it!
Noone here will be shouting if no immediate success is visible. For me, my small bitcoin pledge is a donation anyway. If, after years and years, we have no single success, we might discuss returning those single bitcoins. But now? Why introduce unneeded pressure now?

On the contrary! We now have a much better situation than when the whole Bitcoin 100 started!
When approaching NGOs, we can point to two high-level politicians accepting bitcoins for donations. The use and infrastructure around Bitcoin is stronger too!

And, as a idea I got some time ago:
How about we, you Bruno, join efforts with The Bitcoin Foundation? Writing as an official of TBF, or as being controlled/reviewed/authorized by TBF, or just as a member of TBF, will make the initial letter and Bitcoin in general look more reputable.
I know about the pro-and-cons debates about TBF. I know that the whole idea of being "authorized" by TBF is laughable. I am just thinking that Bitcoin 100 and The Bitcoin Foundation have a lot of overlap and would profit from each other. And, as I am sure, have the same goals too.

Ente

The bottomline is that I needed a well deserved kick in the ass to get Bitcoin100 back on track. CornBeefHash was just using his foot to get me to act. I penned the 30-day-this-or-else post to make sure I felt the kick strong and hard. Now it's time for me to produce.

In the last few months, I've spent way too much time chasing teenage Chinese boys, pirates, butterflies, etc., nearly to the point of getting depressed about Bitcoin's future. But now it seems the excitement is back across the board, and I'm back in the game.

I have a viable for-profit idea up my sleeve and feel it's imperative that something positive continues to emerge from Bitcoin100 so that later when said entity goes live, it doesn't come across as another-Bruno's-trying-to-do-something-but... placemat.

As far as your noble suggestion of joining forces with TBF, I have to say that at this stage it's not practical. But further down the road, as Bitcoin100 earns its salt, most definitely that option may be explored.

I am toying with the idea of somehow getting the lead developer paid via other means besides funds donated/paid to TBF. In fact, I can easily do it through the for-profit entity I have in mind. The only thing I would desire to know is what dollar amount--yearly--that would consist of, believing I can provide said funds.

Thank you kindly, Ente, for your support.

~Bruno K~

Now that's more like it!
Lets get this fckn party started! :-)
