You are right - It's dying!

I have learned to listen to my gut and then do the exact opposite of what it said.

Oh f***, if I had used that strategy from the beginning, I would be rich now! lol
Somehow I'm not good in cheating myself. And missed out on this current rollercoaster-round..
No matter what you do, it turns out the opposite. With "you" I mean "I", thogh.. heh

That was an attempt to be funny. I'm human too, which means I'm irresponsible bastard as well. It's just how we humans are, no need to deny it Grin

I hear you!   Grin

However, it all depends on the timeframe. As someone stated in his sig: "Long term up, short term rollercoaster!"

Everything dies, sooner or later.  Roll Eyes

But relevance depends on how soon. Something that dies 100 years later, is irrelevant to me.

You irresponsible bastard!  Angry Angry Angry

Don't be a jerk.
He didn't say he doesn't care about the future at all.
It doesn't influence my life if there will be asteroid mining, quantum bitcoin mining or the sun turning to a supernova in a hundred years from now on. Which doesn't say anything about what I prefer. I try to not waste aluminum, which will have more impact for future generations, for example.

Calm down, don't assume too much. And still, even if he said what you try to hear, no reason be insulting.

Also, pay attention to bitcoin news.  The GLBSE news, combined with some wall posturing and low volume, was about as good a suggestion for an impending downward movement as you can get.

In hindsight, definitely.
I read the crash of GLBSE early enough. As I never used it I underestimated its impact, though. Elsewhere was stated the total BTC on GLBSE are around 8000 only, though..
Probably the regular [stock-]exchange hysterica. And then the other signs were there too.
As I repeatedly lost money and/or bitcoins when playing daytrader, I decided to sit back and watch for a while. heh.

Now I'm getting total OT and newb-mode:
What are easily visible hints that something drastic may come?

- low volume for a long time
- too narrow band where the price stays in
- triangle-formation

I won't even start to draw in charts. It all seems perfectly clear when you see someone's results, but figuring it out yourself..?  Huh

I fully agree!
On both the reasoning behind some people talking bear, as well as the general outlook.

However, it all depends on the timeframe. As someone stated in his sig: "Long term up, short term rollercoaster!"

Indeed: Enjoy! :-)

What a ride!
Damn!
13$, 11.8$, 10.6$, 12$!
I could slap myself that I missed out on the whole thing! Up to 20% more bitcoins in two days? Damn!

I need to pay closer attention.
As this here is, theoretically, a thread about walls - where would be a good spot to read about hints and speculations when something like this is imminent? The low volume was a good warning sign, it didn't come out of nowhere (this time)..
Any long-term thread with that stuff?

Heck, maybe a paid-text-alarm would be due!

Also: Ein weiterer, nötiger, schmerzhafter Schritt zum Global Player! :-)

Nein, leider kann ich nichts inhaltlich konkretes beitragen, aber eine Meinung hat ja schließlich jeder ;-)

Login is dead for me too. No error here, just a blank page.

People are selling ad space in their signatures. You can cut off signatures in your profile settings if you don't want to see them.

Thank you for the hint, done it!

To safe the next guy a few seconds:

"Profile" - "Modify Profile" on the left - "Look and Layout Preferences" - set "Don't show users' signatures."

Theres a few things I would like glbse to do.

Get a  domain name without ICE jurisdiction to take down.
Move the servers to a country with less stringent securities law.
Register as an offshore company somewhere like Belize.
Retain an anonymous operator similar to silk road.

This would greatly reduce the chance the site will disappear overnight but Nefario might need to build a brand new site to create a regulated bitcoin stock exchange. Dont think you can with the existing site without delisting all securities.
All of this would also increase the chance of the site operator running off with all funds.

Don't worry, he's super long and all invested in Bitcoin and stuff!

1673  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Instawallet Funds Stolen on: October 04, 2012, 02:19:45 PM
Is this common?

This is an Instawallet address I set up last night:
http://blockchain.info/address/17pkbCnZKuKaKgAkDUoggumRTjwKnctos8

Instawallet thinks the funds are still there, but you can't send less than .01 via their interface.

The default behavior is that tiny transactions cost more fees than "normal" transactions. And, to the extreme, any transaction with 0.1 or less bitcoin to be transferred will cost 0.1 bitcoin fee.
As you have less than 0.1 bitcoin in that wallet, you might be out of luck.

Normally I don't seem to pay fees on instawallet. Maybe they set it up to normally not need fees, but this special rule is still active?

1674  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Meanwhile in lower Manhattan..... on: October 04, 2012, 02:16:26 PM

So when BFL releases some preliminary product renders and folks cry "fraud" you jump on their bandwagon and assert that when the crowd shouts "fraud" the burden of proof is on the manufacturer: "Prove to us you're NOT a fraud!"

Then when BitInstant releases a preliminary product pic and folks cry "fraud" your immediate response is "nono, that's not ok you guys, those making the claims of fraud bear the burden of proof, anything else would be fallacious!"

he's got you dead to rights there mucus

As elux was saying, there is a myriad of differences between the two companies - this is reason enough.

In addition to that, BitInstant provides services; they don't produce products. BFL do. When BFL say "we have this technology, please preorder", it is right for someone to ask for evidence (though an absence of evidence doesn't mean there are no conditions under which that is judged to be an acceptable choice); especially when it is something that hasn't been done before. When BitInstant post a photo they aren't asking for money, they're just saying "look at what we're working on", and yes, it is still right to ask for evidence - who doesn't want that - but at the same time this lack of evidence doesn't mean as much because there is less value (for the individual) in the truth of BitInstant's claim (IE: that they have a bitcoin debit card in the works).

The point of all this is not that you should or shouldn't be satisfied with what has been provided (that is, of course, up to you), but that there is certainly room for someone to not demand as much evidence from BitInstant as they would from BFL. Since such a position is not inherently contradictory the argument falls down.

Btw, what's the point to use Bitcoin-based debit cards? To convert bitcoins into dollars? Nonsense. Bitcoiners would better focus on encouraging others to accept bitcoins.

It allows you to save in bitcoin and use them very easily and very quickly. If nothing else, it is moving bitcoins faster in the economy, which is brilliant.

Furthermore, yes, bitcoiners need to talk to others about Bitcoin (and the bitcoin) and encourage them to accept the bitcoin as they do money other currencies; however, in the mean time this is an excellent compromise - it, at the very least, sponsors the movement of bitcoins through the economy (albiet in a needlessly complex way that involves fees and such and so is not as good for the economy as 'true' business in bitcoin), which is better than not at all.

What's the point? It is a bridge. Something that is useful to the bitcoin economy, but not as good as we'd like. Process is important, and this simply helps that along (for an analogy, think of why "half a wing" is in fact useful evolutionarily).

Anyway, just my 20 mBTC

That's a too good posting, you must be a sockpuppet! :-)

Cheers!

Somebody called in the SEC (Security Exchange Commision, if memory serves).

As much as I would like to see the pirate in jail, I suspect that governments are a bigger threat to the bitcoin idea than all pirates taken together. It may be a mistake to ask governments to solve problems of the bitcoin community.

As I understand it, it started when the SEC mailed several users which probably had rated pirate on OTC. Noone called them, we didn't know about them being involved until now, when they (probably) already investigated a lot.
There are speculations and several hints that it all comes together with the "zeek rewards" ponzi.

1676  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Buying pirate/bitcoinmax debt, paying 1-2.5% on: October 01, 2012, 06:07:55 AM
Actually, I never was involved in this pirate mess until he defaulted. Then, judging mostly on Matthew's bet, I bought some debt. In hindsight, I paid way too much for it, so I wish to "double down" now, with investing a small additional sum to substantially enhance my holding.
I don't really believe pirate will pay out anything at all. At this point, it is just cost-risk-calculations for me..

1677  Economy / Marketplace / Buying pirate/bitcoinmax debt, paying 1-2.5% on: September 29, 2012, 04:04:37 PM
Hello everyone,

I buy BTCST, pirate, bitcoinmax etc accounts.
I pay 1 to 2.5% of its "value", depending on:

- Size (the larger the better, I don't want dozens of tiny accounts)
- Actual invested sum without interest
- Account type (direct pirate being more valuable than ppt)
- If ppt: did the PPT operator pass on account infos to pirate?

I hold a bitcoinmax account. If you have other suggestions, like exchanging account types for example, let me know.

If you don't say otherwise, I may update this thread with anonymized offers I received by pm.

I, personally, will just sit back and save my breath/wrath/compromises/whatever for the time when there are actual coins to distribute ;-)

Gonna hold your breath? Good luck with that.

Nope. I ment it more like "I won't waste any breath/wrath/compromises/whatever until there actually are coins". That doesn't say anything about how much chance I see in this ;-)

It looks like Bitcoinmax is getting less attention from Payb.tc

For the sake of his investors, he should create a PGP signature and post it here on the forum. Then he can adjust Bitcoinmax to display a balance message (date, name, withdrawal address, balance, principal balance) in the login area which is signed with his PGP key. That way every account holder can prove to a third party that he has/had investments in Bitcoinmax. Just archive that short text block somewhere and even if the Bitcoinmax website vanishes, you can still prove you had an investment.

He could, but he won't.
Payb.tc stated that he won't transmit the account infos:
1) Not relevant (there is one bitcoinmax account with pirate, where payment is awaited)
2) Payb.tc doesn't want to be left out if there will be any bitcoin coming back

Couldn't find his exact post back to page 87.
I already tried to find a compromise some pages back, but payb.tc didn't react to it.

I, personally, will just sit back and save my breath/wrath/compromises/whatever for the time when there are actual coins to distribute ;-)
