Theymos, I don't think you did yourself a favor here.
I am disappointed. And now, for the first time, considering moving on elsewhere.

Ente

Is there another place with active community?

Theymos should listen to the community. Community has donated a lot bitcoins to this forum, though I don't know are those coins used to pay salary to theymos or something.

The second-biggest community would be http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/
Then there is planning and organizing going on for a new forum:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=244678

About the coins: Mods are paid here now. Both from ad-revenues and donations, as I read.

1122  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Seeking a team to develop Bitcointalk 2.0 forums (apply within) on: August 15, 2013, 01:16:09 PM
I didn't read through the whole thread yet.

- No sockpuppets, yes!

- not only Bitcoin. "Cryptocoin", maybe. Lets re-check the several "favorite slogan" threads for this, maybe?

- Some simple mechanism for trust is needed:
     - "+1" "I like that post"
     - Invite only, and/or vouching required, with inviter visible in invited person's profile
     - "web of trust" - something
     - and/or tipping

- A transparent "democracy", maybe with members voting for a "board of decision makers", who then elect mods, decide finances and so on
  - I believe direct democracy often does not work, and such a forum is exactly where it will go all wrong

- "Person has xy ignores": default ignored for others, with easy "unignore" and "show post". Which applies to quotes, too

- I, personally, use my watchlist a lot. Matthew suggested, and I believe bountied, a function to notify of "these posts quote me"

- Invite-only: This would have huge implications of all sorts. But with the current state of bitcointalk, I believe this would be better. 10k users, ever declining level.. Bitcointalk would still be there, for everyone (else). "Vouching" needed as an alternative.
Alternatively: "High costs" for registering: "Pay xy BTC or solve this riddle or write an application or provide real and verificable ID".
All of this with a "newbie"-like subforum, free for anyone!

I think it is time for a new beginning.

edit:
Reading and thinking about it..
Make it "fluid tiers". Everyone is in a tier, or level, or has points, whatever you call it. Membership time gives you points, posts give you points, but most importantly, ratings from others give you points. Or remove points. You need X points to start a thread. Y points to read the VIP subforum. Z points to post in VIP subforum.
You can only get XY points from posting alone.
You can vote mods once you have XY points.
Mods will be revoked when they have less than XY points.
Spend your points for an ad-free forum.

See, you can build almost everything around "points". Sockpuppets would have little points and little influence. Everyone has the same chance to gain points, but they need to add to the community. Trolls and spammers will quickly have negative points, thus be limited to "troll country" subforum.
And it doesn't involve bitcoins (which is highly unfair to many people) and isn't too harsh on newbies.

/r/bitcoin says:
Mt.Gox denying BTC withdrawls
http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1k81p5/mtgox_denying_btc_withdrawls/

From what I see, it is several individual cases. Combined with weird user-interface effects (withdraw is accepted, funds deducted, shortly after funds reappear). Some individual(s) said they are asked to get verified.

Whoops, nevermind, "service discussion" is full of this already!

This is another recent project.  You can see the wax phase here, then the finished product.

Ridiculous!
I totally love it! :-)

I am always happy to have a small glimpse "behind the scenes" - thank you.
If you care to post a few more - much appreciated for sure!

Hello everyone,

In "lending" you find the "Borrowed funds used in a margin position" table.
Please make it sortable! I wish to quickly see which funds will expire next, and which funds have the highest cost.
Until recently, it was sorted by expiration. This was better than nothing. Now the order appears random again.
Sortable by any column would help a lot!

Ente

This should now be sortable by various columns (expiration date by default). If not, please contact us at admin@bitfinex.com so we can check your configuration.

Also a "will expire at 2013-09-01 13:37:00" instead of "about 1 month" would be nice.

Yes, this is done Smiley

Add the lending data to the API would be interesting.  You could make a chart of lending rates over time.

A BTCUSD chart would also be nice, but mostly it just tracks with Bitstamp - but having a lending rate chart would be unique.

I agree with that. What do you think would be an appropriate period/interval for lending rates?

Best regards
Raphael

Gorgeous! :-)

It all works here, and fine it works! Thank you!

The pdf is definitely using a . like its done in america. In Europe . and , are used exactly the opposite. So i think its not 150000 but 150BTC instead. 150000 sounds way to much for me, i mean think about how many bitcoins this are.

The list, without any separators, would be:

Quote
payb.tc 150501
gigavps 45783
hashking 45680
onefixt 39781
copumpkin 37936 (received 10.5% weekly interest for some reason)
goat 35864
imsaguy 35064
brightanarchist 30486
PatrickHarnett 29140
rpac_internet 27998
rix2000 25100
bitcoinbaltar 25501
brendio 25000
btc4domains 21420
PxJem7Cj 20000
reeses 17682
bwagner 13500
ineededausername 9275

Yes, that's a hundredfifty-thousand bitcoins in the payb.tc passthrough alone.
This is how it sums up to such high USD value back then, such ridiculously high USD value now, and such a mindblowing high percentage of all bitcoins in existance..

Might want to read his SITE clearly states the 'as is' nature and best effort of the production of these units and the very LIMITED warranty.

I've checked, there is no *very* in his limited warranty. I've bothered to search forum to clarify the issue and have found the relevant post:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=179769.msg2780643#msg2780643

Quote
Yes all boards will be tested at the factory, any defective chip will be replaced by me free of charge as part of my service.
(The chip failure rate should be low, as they are factory tested as well)

So: After the assembly at burnin's facility the boards will be tested, and if you sent him broken Avalon chip he will replace your chip with his chip free of charge.

True, that doesn't include if you fry the chip overclocking it.

Edit: My point was originally that he believes the chip failure rate will be very, very low, since he will be assembling hundreds of thousands of chips.

I interpret it the way that he will replace broken chips when it arrives at the customer. And not if *anything* breaks after running successfully, be it through overclocking or sunbursts.
He doesn't write it that way, but anything else makes little sense, does it?

I feel the big news is we will be allowed to preorder next gen devices + few batches of chips on the way (soon)

He already told us the good news ("he is not dead"), now it's the time for the bad ones.

Hehe that is my guess too.

Seriously, guys, do you really believe Yifu will read through a dozen pages of mostly nonsense, threatening and unimportant posts?

Aah, Bitcoin, the eternal fountain of popcorn!

"Shavers is representing himself."

He can even afford a lawyer !

Huh, where did that come from?
This implies he is found and caught?
Others were speculating a lot of the info came right from him anyway..

I am not an expert on security and regulations regarding exchanges, but I tend to agree with what you mentioned above. The only thing I'd add is

bitfinex.com

I have used them for 7 months now for BTC trading, BTC margin trading, LTC trading, etc. They have mentioned somewhere that they have registered themselves in HongKong with the financial authorities.
Withdrawals works extremely fast and smoothly as well.
And.. they offer all possible orders: stop loss, stop buy, stop sell, etc.

+1.

Also, as another small incentive, margin trading requires funds. People borrow (your) funds and pay you a rate. At the moment, around 90% rate for USD, per year. You decide how much and how long you lend out, and it's insured if you choose so.

Yes, we need more liquidity and more available money on bitfinex! :-)

Geht halt nur später los, was solls.

I'd like to be able to partially close a position. Slipage is too huge on large position...
Any way to do this without opening several account?

Not sure what you mean.
You can either sell a small portion in "Margin Trade", or close individual loans at "Lending"?

Gibts da noch was?
