1321  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin has reached the tipping point on: September 26, 2014, 08:08:19 PM
The people in the general discussion section often say the only reason people go into alternates is to get more BTC.  Nope.  I don't give a hoot about Bitcoin.  Yes I need Bitcoin to acquire other alternates but blame the developers of those coins for not accepting alternative payments.  I'm fine with paying in LTC, NXT, NEMstake, NODE, Redd or the other 5 coins I have.. do you take SuperNet tokens?  Huh

for a seemingly balanced guy you hold a terrible bunch of crypto in my opinion, but then people would say I'm not a very balanced individual either.

Would it cease being terrible if I bought Quark?   Huh
1322  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Australian Govt. form asks if I own any Bitcoin of Cryptocurrency on: September 26, 2014, 07:56:15 PM
I imagine  they're asking that question for finances.  Bitcoin made a lot of random millionaires and governments don't like paying welfare to people who can afford to pay for themselves.  I'm familiar with that woman who was banned and cut off from welfare in the states after winning $3 million in the lottery (she then lost all the money and tried to get back on welfare to no avail)
1323  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin has reached the tipping point on: September 26, 2014, 07:47:21 PM
agree on op.
If bitcoin collapses it is in most parts because of a flawed halving schedule. It should have been halving quicker or gradual decrease. This halvings are just clumsy and too long.
Uno is the solution to bitcoins inflation problemm and dumping miners.
IF bitcoin tanks and you missed the opportunity to shortsell it: dump your bitcoin in uno because that will rise a lot when people realise what the problem was with bitcoin (the inflation). Just a heads up. It is rising already. In case bitcoin tanks uno will be the alt to be in - other low inflation coins aswell. Sick of miners dumping.

Uno?  This is the samething as that Uro?

I have twelve buckets of bat piss (Gauno Urea) in my living room, with open lids and the air is fulminating all over the place.  Who wants my Urea for Uro / Uno?   Huh

NODE price keep falling.  NODE deaded?   Huh

For full disclosure.. Are you, or are you not invested in NODE?

Why should anyone give a shit? Put him on ignore.

I want to know if hes an idiot or just attempting to to drive price down so he can buy.

He is just an idiot who see a threat in this coin so he comes time to time to spread fud.. and ofc to manipulate price. You can see him sometimes saying wonderful things and other moments crap like this.. Thats why everyone is tired of this kiddo.

I'm not trying to lower prices to buy or to manipulate.  The reality is the developers are sucking in promotion and it's hurting the coin.

There isn't even enough volatility & volume in NODE to make any money off it (at least for someone in the first world).  Yes if I was in Botswana or Guatemala and made a living off cryptos, then sure I would be nickle and dime NODE and every alternate in the book.

Someone would be mad to buy more than 0.5 BTC worth of NODE given the current state.  I don't care if your Scrooge McDuck and can afford to invest more, it's a calculated assessment given the poor communication by the developers and stagnating prices.

Well.. i'm certainly not rich.. but i got my stake as everyone else and i bought another 3M node at 70 satoshis. If price reach those levels im gonna buy more for sure.. and right now im really tempted to buy up to 100 satoshis.. as i'm a bit tired of seeing 1 or 2 guys playing in bter trying to push down the prices so obviously. But on the other hand I dont really want to interfere with prices as i think they will go much more up in price in the next days/weeks as soon as developments and promo start hitting the coin.
And i'm not the only one seeing potential here.. actually i saw it thx to a post from jl777 saying node and another coin were the good coins going on. and i got more NODE after seeing jl777 showing interest on NODE for being part of the supernet and the whitepaper and all the potential this coin has for taking a big part in the real world economy.. more considering the current situation of east and south europe and the baltic countries. And the fact that this coin is not gonna be just another coin only XXX/BTC.. but tradeable directly with usd and eur and other currencies. Because that is what i need.

I'm at just 1 million NODE.  There's no point in me buying 3M, 5M or 10M.  I've had a few war stories myself and read plenty here on Bitcointalk.  I'm fine with my 1 million NODE and waiting 5-10 years to see return on it.  Just another coin to the portfolio.
1326  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Crowdsale has begun[Updates & Discussion] on: September 26, 2014, 06:15:35 PM
The block as far as I know only effected Bitcointalk.  People reported that Litecointalk was unaffected.  Maybe the BTC38 and BTER forum (in Chinese) is still available to people within China?

That's a desperate attempt but maybe the only way to get a hold of them.  Redirect them to the NEM forum and you would ask them to confirm their identity with the Bitcoin or NXT wallet they used for registration.

Didn't answer my question. Are you or are you not invested in the coin?

Yeah I am an original stakeholder and bought additional coins.  I'm sure because of the latter you will accuse me of being a manipulator but I haven't sold anything yet.  Why sell now when NODE could hypothetically be $1-$15 billion in the future if crypto currency market hits $1+ trillion?   There's also the scenario that NODE simply replaces BTC in the Baltic-Slavic half of Europe (Google / Facebook's presence in that region is smaller than their Eastern European counterparts - due to language barrier and other things).

It's just NODE or Crypti right now and Crypti is in Russia which is extremely hostile to digital currencies.  So that leaves NODE to dominate Ukraine (BTC is already on 5000 bank terminals in Ukraine) and then spread into Poland, Baltic, Czechia and Romania and then penetrate the remittance market in Britain and Germany.

1328  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The era of easy money IPO's over? on: September 26, 2014, 05:33:36 PM
Who would be the first to sell below the IPO price?

Someone who didn't pay the IPO price for the coins.

Who could that be?
In all seriousness, did anyone make any money with the Ethereum IPO? I haven't invested in any IPO because I just cant trust any. But IPO scams will exists forever since there will be fools forever.

I don't think it's even possible.  Ethereum is going to start at $16 million capitalization.   Where's the ROI?   If Ethereum went up 100x in value it would be $1+ billion capitalization.  That's compared to earliest people in Bitcoin who saw 450,000 times return.  Even today I think there are alternates that will later attain that rate of return.  Ethereum is just too big at launch and will fail for that reason.

https://blog.ethereum.org/2014/08/08/ether-sale-a-statistical-overview/

Even on Vitalik's blog he said top 100 wallets control almost half of Ethereum.  Wallets are not people.  When you invest huge sums you break it up into multiple wallets to minimize potential losses if they happen.  Ethereum looks to be a rich man's ponzi scheme (like Mastercoin 2.0) and for that reason it'll fail as there will be no subsequent buyers.

1329  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The era of easy money IPO's over? on: September 26, 2014, 05:29:58 PM
Much of the present IPO crop is setting themselves up for a fall. They're asking far too much money for something that starts off as vapour.

NEM, Node and plenty of other examples showed how it should be done. Ground up is a healthier way to roll.

I don't see NODE as a success. It's floundering pretty low down the Coinmarketcap list for a second generation coin.

I wonder if NEM will also be a dumpfest.

But folks didn't have to lay out significant amounts of money to get in on the ground floor. It was free for the very earliest.

That surely does set things up for a short term dumpfest but I think they'll both have legs.

The Node IPO actually slipped past me, but nobody could really miss the NEM IPO.  I am pretty excited about it because I think it is the first time every in crypto that something like this is being tried.  I honestly don't know if it will be a dump or buy.  Of course some of both will be happening.  It is a very exciting time.

Well it wasn't as publicized but NODE stakeholder list had a lot of recognizable names on Bitcointalk.

The exact same could had been said for NxT.  Those people bought in October when 1 BTC = $100ish.  I bought most of my BTC, in comparison, when it was above $700.

The guys spent 1.5 BTC limit ($150) and months later were sitting on $4-$6 million and yes a lot of them have been dumping ever since.  The moment NxT shows any increase in capitalization or increase volume - the whales start dumping.

China blocked access to BTT a week or two ago, so we could have some NEM stakeholders who can't even access this thread and may not be aware of the official NEM forum.

NODE price keep falling.  NODE deaded?   Huh

Yup. Totally.

Totally rubbish market cap for new 2nd generation coin, Qora started with over 2 million marketcap. Which are the main reason for this failure?

I have some thoughts:

- No marketing
- Shady IPO
- Language barriers with the devs
- No sourcecode

Precisely.  It's as if the developers don't give a damn about NODE.  It makes you wonder if the developers are apathetic or if they're in it to sell their 50%+ premine.

Very pathetic capitalization for a 2.0 coin and absolutely no marketing or promotion, zilch.

This looks more and more like Quarkcoin.

except its called Monero.
What a dumb name. It sounds like an underpowered sedan driven by senior citizens.

Your thinking of the Ford Mondeo!  Very close.

Ok this made me laugh.  Ford had the first Monero!  Cheesy
1336  Economy / Speculation / Re: My mother's a psychic, here's what she says about BTC on: September 25, 2014, 11:50:35 PM
The chance of another cryptocurrency replacing bitcoin is negligible. By saying it's negligible, I mean it won't happen. The chances are pretty much zero at this point. It doesn't matter if someone comes out with something better. This happens all the time with all kinds of products. Inferior products that get to market first and get a huge amount of momentum will run the better, smaller products out of business.

Nope

Bitcoin only has 500,000 to 2 million users.  While the internet back in 1989 had more users.  Dot.com in the late 1990s had around 130 million.  Paypal today has around 150 million users.

Bitcoin is small fish (not even that it's more like plankton) and doesn't have any holding power and doesn't seem to be expanding its' userbase anymore, despite the good concept.

IMHO - the future is the 2.0 crypto currencies with strong communities and good distribution.  The first one to gain any momentum (it's only a matter of time) will shoot past Bitcoin's small userbase.

Charles V was perhaps the greatest Emperor in European history, controlled like a third of Europe and most of the Americas.

1339  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: US Banks: Why We Embraced Ripple (coindesk) on: September 25, 2014, 11:13:28 PM
Banking is already digital.  They're just adopting this as a cost saving mechanism but they won't pass down the savings to their customers (it'll go the bank president, CEO or will be used to create more money out of thin air).

Ripple nor these banks are the solution to society's problems.  There's plenty of money in this world ($400 trillion derivatives and $85 trillion of wealth) but it's all centralized by a few banks and private funds, who can additionally also print money out of thin air due to fractional reserve banking.

1340  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Another Alibaba moment on NXT AE? on: September 25, 2014, 10:29:11 PM
Probably the reason why it's done on the NxT asset exchange was if CfB brought this to a venture capitalist (even an amateur one) he would be laughed out of the room.

Well...I don't know if you realize it, but you've provided the perfect justification for the AE. I'm historian enough to realize that, if Doc Roberts had brought the Altair 8800 to a VC in 1974, he would have been patted on the head and sent on his way.

"This company, although it has a neat product, will be crushed by Heathkit once the latter gets wind of this Altair and brings out their own model..."

The funny part about this alternate history is that any such VC would have made a good decision based on the standards of his trade presiding back then. The potential of the microcomputer was too unknown, and the big companies had a lot more market clout back then. Hindsight, as always, offers Chuck-Yeager clarity...

So, to get back from my digression path, the AE is a perfect crowdfunding venue for projects that are too "kooky" for a VC. Even these days, they still have blind spots - many of which are thinly-disguised fiduciary obligations to their fundholders.

Not to get nitpicky, but CfB would have been thrown out because the funding requirement is too small to merit a real VC's time...

I think this can be a very retrospective rhetoric.  There's likely been a lot of projects around the same time frame as Altair but have largely been forgotten to history.
