1301  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will Bitcoin take off again? on: September 29, 2014, 12:55:11 AM
It'll never take off again. Bagholders are cashing out. Every miner, whale and early adopter is losing confidence and dumping their coins, but almost no one is willing to buy, so price just continues crashing. You'll see the occasional dead cat bounce along the way, but the trend will continue being clear: Bitcoin is finding its true, single digit value after being pumped into a sky of delusions by Willybot, Markus and other Karpeles shenanigans. Now that Gox is gone, no level of permabull nonsense or cultist propaganda can sustain the price of this failing commodity.

Unfortunately this is true.  Bitcoin isn't going back up ever again.  It was all bots.  Now it's just bagholders cashing out to buy cars and gaming computers.
1302  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why do you people sell at these price? on: September 28, 2014, 09:57:26 PM
November woke up a lot of hibernating whales.  People mined in 2009 / 2010, forgot and then when it was in the news late 2013 they came back into Bitcoin with 10,000+ BTC (some even as much as 100,000).  Even with prices as low as they are - at $400 at 10,000 BTC is still worth $4 million.

Currently these people are dumping for $Fiat or just buying things off merchants accepting BTC, who then promptly dump the BTC.  For BTC to go up they have to go through all these sellers and this could take up to two years.

Well it's more probable that Ripple is just extremely manipulated.

LTC is going down as it's no longer #2.  Smart money is pulling out for BTC, Ripple and Doge
1305  Economy / Economics / Re: London house prices a bubble waiting to burst? on: September 28, 2014, 08:45:57 PM
There are artificial shortages too.  I read that there are more short order cooks than carpenters in these hot real estate areas.

Prices are also high because the home builder associations and city regulators are trying to keep inventory low to maximize prices.

Ripple is now worth more than Litecoin.  Litecoin is no longer Prince to BTC.

1312  Economy / Speculation / Re: My mother's a psychic, here's what she says about BTC on: September 27, 2014, 09:06:32 AM

Paypal integrating bitcoin as justification for future success and price rises is wishful thinking? Not sure I agree with you there.

Of course crypto 2.0 coin could rise up and win the race. But as it stands bitcoin has a huge first mover advantage, huge network effect advantage and is the only crypto being built into internet payment systems globally.  It may fail but its upside potential are undeniable.

To say it has reached its potential as we are on the cusp of going mainstream, with huge VC infrastructure investment ongoing, suggests you either sold already or cannot handle the volatility of a long term bull market.

AltaVista had first mover advantage against Google, MySpace had first mover advantage against Facebook. Nokia had first mover advantage against iPhone. I see that everyone here believes what they want to believe and opinions catering to personal biases are favored, others dismissed.

I won't post here again. I have no agenda, just posted the message. Do what ever the fuck you want.

The first mover advantage would make sense in context if Bitcoin had large numbers of users.  Bitcoin is only estimated to have 500K-2M users..

I would be singing a different tune if Bitcoin had 10 or 20 million users but doesn't.  Bitcoin pioneered the initial innovation but the torch is slowly being passed to the 2.0 coins.

As well you don't aim for second place.
...

This is axactly what sets NEM apart. Most players in the crypto space go for releasing a coin making some money hit a few exchanges and that it.
Only ver few want to go big and actually change something. NEM is one of those.

Yes I unfortunately have a stake in several of those coins.  Where there's no vision and the development team is incredibly difficult to get ahold of, you suspect the only reason they created their coin was to get beer money or something.

NEM team on the other hand is very large, very communicable and they care about the coin.  If you got a problem or a question about NEM - the developers always take the time to help you and or answer your questions, private messages and that is why many people like NEM.
1314  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bitcoin on official website of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on: September 27, 2014, 08:21:26 AM
Ukraine has 5000 bank terminals which accept BTC.  There's also an alternate team from Ukraine on Bitcointalk who created their own 2.0 crypto currency called NODE coin.

Seems like all the exciting areas for cryptos is China and Eastern Europe.
1315  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Crowdsale has begun[Updates & Discussion] on: September 27, 2014, 08:08:13 AM
Dot.com in the late 1990s was around 130 million users and had a capitalization up to $7 trillion.

Paypal is 150 million users and some think it's $40 billion market cap..  but Paypal is a payment processor..   As in that capitalization is determined by them taking your $Fiat and slapping on fees and processing your payments and making revenue and then net profit.

If a digital currency had 150 million users then the capitalization would be in the trillions due to the commodity characteristics of digital currencies.   * * *

Currently Bitcoin right now is estimated to be 500K-2M and it had a peak capitalization of 18 billion.  Take a number like 2 million users and times it by 100 (200 million users) and you get $1.8 trillion.  Of course if Bitcoin ever got that big then more private funds, wall street and banks would go in pushing the capitalization up several more trillion.  Then you would also get those people like real estate flippers going into coins too.

What NEM is and what it becomes is the critical question here.  If NEM is the front runner of cryptos then you could see up to $700 NEM someday.   Otherwise NEM could be one of the runner ups within the context of a $1-$8 trillion digital currency market some day and yes probably attain a price up to $50 as one of the secondary currencies.

When you enter into a race you don't aim for second place or third place - you aim for first place with the intention of winning.

1317  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Insignificance of Altcoins? Potential? Mass adoption? Really? on: September 26, 2014, 08:41:03 PM
You seem to be butt hurt over something and I don't know what exactly.

TaunSee, not at all, I'm trying to understand peoples' vigorous optimism about a cryptocurrency scene that is extremely insignificant as of now (I consider myself a part of this scene as I do own coins and post here). That's not being butthurt, don't know why you would think that way unless you dislike my topics' content.

Well.. are you talking about the whole scene or just the alternates?  As I said twice now I think Bitcoin only has 500K-2M users.   This is compared to payment processors like Paypal which are almost 150 million.

Digital currencies will be bigger some day as there are utilitarian uses for them.
1318  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Insignificance of Altcoins? Potential? Mass adoption? Really? on: September 26, 2014, 08:33:49 PM
In Eastern Europe's case - that region is full of tech examples where domestic startups are more popular than their American counterparts.  Use of VK and Yandex exceeds use of Facebook and Google in that region.   Bitcoin around the world is often regarded as being American (even a lot of people think Satoshi is a pseudonym and/or a Japanese American in California).

You seem to be butt hurt over something and I don't know what exactly.  As I said before - Bitcoin only has 500,000 to 2 million users, this is nothing in the grand scheme when this technology will likely have billions of users someday and Bitcoin in the past two years has had very complacent development and marketing.
1319  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Insignificance of Altcoins? Potential? Mass adoption? Really? on: September 26, 2014, 08:26:34 PM
100 million users.  Bitcoin only has an estimated 500,000 to 2 million users.  100 million users would probably result in a capitalization of $1 trillion.  The reason Paypal's capitalization isn't that big is because they just process payments, they're not a commodity like a coin is.

Why Ethereum?  More likely it'll end up as another Ripple or worse yet (more probable) another Mastercoin.  Don't worry, Vitalik can probably get another job somewhere within Goldman Sachs' or he can start a boy band.

Really the internet back in the late 1980s was bigger than Bitcoin currently is.  Bitcoin doesn't seem to be expanding its' userbase due to all the bad PR surrounding it.

I think the Anglophone world is too hostile towards cryptos, most room for growth will be in East Asia and Eastern Europe.  NODE and NEM seem like good contenders for that.  NEM last I check is led by a Japanese developer and a lot of their active community members are Asian.  NODE is Ukrainian and Ukraine is crazy about BTC (5000 bank terminals accept BTC).
1320  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Australian Govt. form asks if I own any Bitcoin of Cryptocurrency on: September 26, 2014, 08:16:45 PM
I imagine  they're asking that question for finances.  Bitcoin made a lot of random millionaires and governments don't like paying welfare to people who can afford to pay for themselves.  I'm familiar with that woman who was banned and cut off from welfare in the states after winning $3 million in the lottery (she then lost all the money and tried to get back on welfare to no avail)

How'd she lose all the money? Just by being dumb?

http://articles.latimes.com/2012/mar/07/nation/la-nn-na-lottery-winner-collects-welfare-20120307

Well my memory wasn't perfect but she won $1 million which was $500K after taxes.  Still that would had gotten her $20K-$30K a year above inflation at an investment fund like Vanguard and the principle would untouched.  She bought two houses with the money.

I used to watch all those lottery winner shows on TLC until they stopped making them.  A lot of these people won amounts under $5 million and were definitely living it up YOLO style.

One guy lost all his money buying some hotel and getting screwed over by his 'partner', and then spending the rest on houses and planes
One funnier example is one guy buying Medieval-Replica stuff, went bankrupt and then when he had his collection appraised it was discovered he got cheated by the dealers who used the lowest quality metals.

Really the lottery winner demographic is indicative of the general population, in that the 85% of the population doesn't understand money and would make as terrible decisions.
