@ iamnotback and anyone else who wants to chip in here

I know that iamnotback is somewhat negative on BOTH BTC and gold, but I would be interested in your views on relative strengths of both assets based on the BTC price run-up of the past few days.  ounce.me now has the BTC:Au ratio at about 1.87, the lowest it has been in a long time.

So, what do you think?  Is this a good time to buy gold with BTC?  I am interested only in an academic sense, I made a decision just today...

1702  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should there be a Bitcoin committee that vets Bitcoin service providers? on: June 12, 2016, 07:13:33 PM
...

I am unqualified to offer a solid opinion on technical matters, but in general "official" committees to vet things are to be avoided.  That creates ugly Party Lines.  The technology changes way too fast for Committees.

With Bitcoin, it is Caveat Emptor and to take great care in managing your BTC and transactions.

This forum and other places (reddit, etc.) are probably good enough.  As above poster wrote, public opinion is likely good enough.
1703  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PayPal Files Patent for Bitcoin Payment Device on: June 12, 2016, 05:31:09 PM

That's a great point, yayayo, re eBay (perhaps even Amazon) getting on board with Bitcoin (unless they see something BAD that we do not...).

Costs for these online marketplaces will likely come down, more entrants and tighter margins will indeed force eBay and Amazon to lower their costs too.  BTC looks like the way to go for them.
1704  Economy / Speculation / Re: 626 $ what!?!? Halving incoming.. on: June 12, 2016, 05:21:32 PM
what!?!? Started pump&dump or started natural growth??

My understanding is that very quickly on Saturday LOTS of Chinese started buying BTC.  Makes me wonder if anything serious is going on over there.

Shanghai stock trading starts at +/- 9:00 PM (US ET).  Watch Asian trading at marketwatch.com.  Watch price of gold and US futures as well (same site).
1705  Economy / Speculation / Re: 1 BTC now equals $630!!! on: June 12, 2016, 05:36:53 AM
When I woke up and looked Bitcoin course, I could not believe my eyes! I thought that the more sleep! For one night the price so sharply and greatly increased!
I wonder what is the reason. The last jump of the price has been associated with the devaluation of the yuan, and the contributions of Chinese investors. This increase is associated with what?

China,again.Cheesy

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-06-11/bitcoin-spikes-above-600-2-year-highs-sudden-massive-chinese-buying

Yes, I saw that and read something similar at reddit.  THAT BIG a price jump makes me wonder if there might be something UGLY going on in China.  Shanghai stock trading starts tomorrow night (US ET), something like 9:00 PM.

marketwatch.com has an easy way to check Asian stock indices.  Yup, I will be checking tomorrow...
1706  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic Totalitarianism on: June 12, 2016, 05:04:19 AM
Where did you get that picture of my family?  Calling them nutcases, you have the nerve...

My family is much better prepared than I am, as you can see.  Alas, in my case, my guns (ammo too) were lost in a boating accident, why a year ago IIRC.  Rather than get the police all riled up about guns out there at the bottom of the sea, I thought I would just let them corrode away.  Most unfortunate.

Oh, I lost all my precious metals on the same boat-ride.  And everyone told me that it was so much better to take all that stuff with me rather than leave it all behind in some dark place at home.  How naive.  Now I have to start over.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss.  Indeed, boating accidents seem to be rather common now.  And I had always thought that carrying around my precious and my weapons was a good idea rather than leaving them in some dark hidey-hole at home.

In my case though, I lost all of that while ice-fishing in Minnesota last winter.  I even forget which lake.  Bummer!
1707  Economy / Speculation / Re: PANIC BUYING !!!!!!! on: June 12, 2016, 04:55:59 AM
...

I wonder if anything is going on in China...    Huh

We may get a good clue by watching what happens when Shanghai stock trading opens at 9:00 PM (or so, US ET).  Maybe something ugly is going on there forcing Chinese to get BTC for capital preservation/capital flight, etc.

marketwatch.com has an easy way to monitor Asian stocks in near real time, see their tabs towards the upper left of their Home Page.
1708  Economy / Service Discussion / Signature Campaigns Sure Do Look Better w/ BTC at $620... on: June 12, 2016, 04:51:00 AM
...

Some two or three weeks ago (approx.) BTC was languishing in the mid $400s or so.  Participating in a Signature Campaign looked like a way to make a little bit of Easy Money.  Looks a little bit better now, no?

I do understand that there is always the risk of lower BTC payouts with the price up so high (relative to recent years), but still, the Campaigns do seem more compelling now.  But, perhaps they will continue to pay in BTC and not "adjust" for the increased US$ value of each Bitcoin's price.  We'll see.

You guys realize that these price changes going up and down and you profiting from it, costs other people their money right?
Because any money every one earning is a lost for some one else, lol now I see it's more like ponzi system that people getting paid
At the cost of others losing their money Angry

No. This is a total lie. Network effects are not a zero-sum game. When everyone benefits from using a new, more efficient technology, telephone, electricity, internet, bitcoin, highways, etc because it is cheaper to work as a network, then the total societal wealth is expanded. even if you don't want to be part of that new network you will still probably benefit in some way, but just not as much. It's called progress and please stop spreading such sneaky lies.

m_of_a

Yes, that would be my take as well.

As BTC (we hope) catches on more, and as more developers create more options for buying BTC and selling stuff for it, we indeed all win (on average).

providentmetals.com for me has been the big BTC game changer for me, allowing me to buy gold with BTC (even if prematurely, buying when BTC price was lower, *sigh*).
1710  Economy / Speculation / Re: A lot of salty people right now on: June 12, 2016, 03:19:57 AM
Problem with gold is there is like twenty time as much paper gold as physical gold and governments are using it as political bargaining chips. The whole thing is rigged, and no telling if that's good or bad for the price long term.

I have seen estimates as high as 100 times more paper than phyzz, I saw one writer say it was 300 times...

I should have mentioned that one should buy physical gold only!  "Paper gold" (futures, the "GLD" ETF, etc.) all seem very risky to me.

Buy the phyzz, and hide it well.
1711  Economy / Speculation / Re: A lot of salty people right now on: June 12, 2016, 03:05:38 AM
Seems like there haven't been all that many of them lately, except for Kwuckduck and that stupid bot that keeps creating accounts with FUD.  People love to jump out of the woodwork when bitcoin is falling and tell you they told you so.  I mean now that it's rising they don't really have much to say, do they?

Yeah, FUD-sters seem to be "layin' low" now, bwa ha ha.

Still, caution and diversity are ALWAYS a good idea.  Maybe on Monday I will cash in some BTC gains (avg. cost basis +/- $490) by buying some Au...
1712  Economy / Speculation / Re: Lose all your capital fast, with MatTheCat and his TA 101A! on: June 12, 2016, 03:02:21 AM
For the record, I did put what little life savings I had into bitcoin and I never even thought about selling. And I'm looking at nearly 50% profits now, simply by holding.

If I posted how much I'm up, Mat would probably jump from the roof.

Mr. r0ach!

I just came back from a meeting (yeah, Sat. night) only to read how heavy Chinese buying has smashed BTC to over $620.  What nice news.

Who needs TA?  Just buy and hodl has worked for me (although I did not break even until BTC crossed $490 due to some early buying in the $700s).

I might turn around and buy some gold Monday with some of my BTC though...
1713  Economy / Economics / Re: I have 12 BTC in my Account, How should I invest this?? on: June 12, 2016, 02:57:58 AM

Well if Tred (the OP) still has his 12 BTC now, then he is likely to be One Happy Camper today!  Just sitting on his asset has yielded pretty good!

Smiley

$621 last I checked at ounce.me.  <=== Nice little widget, shows BTC, gold, oil, US$ prices and a few more.
1714  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin crossed 520$... on: June 12, 2016, 02:47:55 AM

I go away for a few hours and come back to find BTC at $622 (ounce.me)!  Wow, I did read at ZH that it is apparently due to heavy Chinese buying...  Maybe they are looking to get funds OUT of China now?

Sunday night stock trading in Shanghai promises to be interesting...

marketwatch.com has a way to check some Asian markets (inc. Shanghai) as well as US futures.
1715  Other / Archival / Re: [ANN] [banned mixer] — the Fast, Secure and Reliable High Volume Bitcoin Mixer! on: June 12, 2016, 02:44:03 AM
Recently got a chance to experience CryptoMixer's  service in real time as I was not in need of any mixing services for my coins so far. This time tried for my friend, for a small amount (some mBTC). Reasonable fees. All went so smooth. Very nice experience to rate as perfect.

Thank you CryptoMixer for providing such a professional services. Smiley

Supercrypt

Thank you for the review.  I have seen extremely few reviews on CryptoMixer's service from members who have "seniority".

Has anyone checked their destination wallets for "taint"?  Any address can be checked for taint via blockchain.info's taint analysis (enter an address and look for the "Taint Analysis" option).

***  Is there any other "Taint Analysis" (for free) other than blockchain.info's?  ***
1716  Economy / Economics / Re: Martin Armstrong Discussion on: June 11, 2016, 01:24:26 AM
...

I have mentioned on occasion that for me the greatest value of Armstrong's (public) blog is for his ideas.  I am not a "trader" nor likely to become one.  I hold a great diversity of assets and types of assets (including a some BTC).  Diversification is almost always a winner.

NO ONE can reliably predict the future.  SOME trends can be looked at, and quite possibly conclusions can be drawn that enhance the odds of trading success or minimizing risk.
1717  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Preferred method of buying Bitcoin?? on: June 10, 2016, 04:13:37 PM
If I cared about privacy I would not use coinbase.

Unfortunately if you really really care about privacy, there's nothing you can do beyond meeting IRL with a local trader, everything else is not really anonymous cause it goes outside of the BTC ecosystem (banks involved)

But if you are going to buy a small amount, then don't over think about it. No one really cares that you buy 1 BTC or something.

Yes, if you want to buy pretty anonymously, use localbitcoins, although where I live there are not very many reliable sellers.  Which is really too bad.  Maybe localbitcoins will get more participants as time goes by.

I can buy from a BTC ATM, but the premium has risen to a very high 14% over "spot", which is now just too high for me.

I also buy from circle.com, as they made it easy to sign up.  They use 2FA, and so far no problems.  My limit is a low $300 though.
1718  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: [GUIDE] How to Sign/Verify message in NEW Blockchain Wallet on: June 10, 2016, 02:58:49 AM
I thought it was impossible to return to the older wallet?
Yes,its impossible to return to the old wallet.I haven't checked if the update is implemented now like the signing/verifying messages. You can always import the private keys and then the addresses. It's not recommend to upgrade to the beta version yet as possible bugs and updates make it vulnerable to attacks.

Bolding and italics mine.  And that is why I do not understand why blockchain.info would release a product not ready for primetime.  It seems like newbies (and I would be one, I just use the legacy version for now) might have problems.  blockchain.info is notorious for having problems.

IMO they would be better off to claen house before venturing out on new projects that would dilute their programming prowess.  For example, three weeks or so ago their SharedCoin (mixing service) was not working.  SharedCoin seems to be up and running now though.
1719  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Anyone know best and reliable bitcoin mixer? on: June 10, 2016, 02:45:49 AM
I only use bitmixer.io for it I have my signature campaign for them and this is also because I really trust them, I used them multiple times and it always was going good, fast and easy compared with some other websites.
Plus bitmixer has a lot of reviews and can be trusted for sure, its not just a scam website...
Not only you but everyone here is known well to bitmixer, after bitmixer investment at here and getting fame at here. I Think it is really a good bitcoin mixer in the market at current time.

Well stated, Zaun.  I have used bitmixer.io many times, all have worked out just fine.  Their (can be random if you so choose) rates seem to be lower than just about everyone else, "call it" 0.7% (or, say, 0.75% if sending to two addresses).  Once you get the hang of using them (not hard, at least the clearnet version), it's easy and quick.

I am sticking with them.  I am proud to be in their Signature Campaign as they have done me no wrong.
1720  Economy / Economics / Who are Our Masters? This Bilderberger attendee graphic shows... on: June 08, 2016, 07:45:21 PM

Without doubt there is an Elite that is extremely powerful worldwide.  There are many questions as to exactly who they are, how powerful, how much money is a factor, their plans, etc., etc.

The rabbit holes of conspiracy theories go very very deep.  Nonetheless, the yearly Bilderberger attendees are usually included among The Elite.  Do note that the attendees do change each year, but ALL are rich, powerful or influential (or are all three)...

Here is a great image from Zero Hedge showing who this year's group is, and the institutions they belong to (the image is very large, going to the link and magnifying in on it might make it more legible), note at the edge of the pink circle are the persons.  Wouldn't it have been nice to include addresses along the way...?
