Everyone must prepare differently for their situation, but for everyone I believe you should begin growing your own food indoors.

Get rid of your personal debts.

Follow the market trends, MA is best equipped to forecast trends.

Most importantly, get comfy and enjoy the fireworks as the west self destructs.

Yes, we are all different, with different situations.  My wife and I are only willing to go "so far" in preparing.  And if it gets REALLY REALLY UGLY, well I don't know if I would even want to live it...

But, I don't *think* it will be that bad ("TEOTWAWKI"), so your advice to get comfy, sit back and watch is also sound.  Don't forget the popcorn.
1902  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Cloud mining!! on: April 03, 2016, 02:14:07 AM
...

I have (casually) looked at various cloud mining opportunities for some time.  And asked questions at various threads about some of them.  Almost always people reply saying that it is not worth it.

I have not bought any nor done kind of investments along those lines.

Want more Bitcoin?  Buy it (or if you are highly-skilled: get paid in it selling services).
1903  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: what are your favourite signature campaigns? on: April 02, 2016, 04:24:28 PM
i an just wondering what are your favourite signature campaigns? I ask this because some of my friends don't like the signature campaigns they are in, but when i tell them to move, the don't. Pretty strange right. Anyway back to my question. I do have another question, if i am in a particular signature campaign and then i decide to leave it and then return after a while, can i use my previous signature?

I like bitmixer since it has automatic weekly payouts and no minimum posts required. though its pretty hard to get into.

Yes, I like bitmixer a lot as well (also their mixing service, it's what spurred me to learn how to get in the Campaign).  I have no problems with their max payment of BTC0.035 per week if you max out at 50 posts, I have never been able to post 50 in a week.

I have not followed other Campaigns, but at least based on all the buzz on the bitmixer Campaign thread, it looks like lots of people want to join.  I read that many service providers are dropping their Campaigns or cutting payments.
1904  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic Totalitarianism on: April 02, 2016, 04:15:18 PM

1) Work to limit debt (easier said then done).

Debt is already taken in your name without your consent. It's called national debt, just look at your countries debt, and you will see, regardless of what country you live in.

Actually, in at least one sense that is not true.  Government debt (financed by the Fed) was never meant to be paid off!  If they DO pay the debt down, they, in essence, have to withdraw FRNs from the economy, inviting DEFLATION, which no/few banksters want.

If you are concerned about the Debt (which I am), try gold!  The antidote for debt.  It is NO ONE's liability.  Once you have bought gold with your FRNs, you have already been paid!

This thread is actually in honor of CoinCube (who started the very popular "Economic Devastation" thread).

Smiley

But, that thread wanders into difficult philosophical terrain, and I am interested in hearing opinions (practical!) re what we can do about "Economic Totalitarianism":

Ha ha you hit the nail on the head with this one.

I standby my prior statement that a separate thread for practical solutions was a great and needed idea  Smiley

Smiley

I have been reviewing your thread, CC.  I have not been contributing.  Instead, I run off like a scaredy-cat.

Just be thankful I am not screaming when I flee...

I note that in the past day or two (well as of the last I visited this afternoon) that Mighty TPTB has not chipped in any remarks re Orch OR or quantum consciousness...  Maybe you've found a subject he not an expert on.

Carry on then.  Maybe Mon or Tues I'll buy some gold.

EDIT: Your five suggestions are all good.  Our (one) kid is trilingual (Spanish & French), but fuggitaboutit teaching her Mandarin, or *shudder* coding...

Staying out of debt is (properly) at No. 1 on your list.

trollercoaster's link reminds us (Americans and others NOT from Europe) that there is relatively little time to go and see Europe as tourists before it changes completely.

Some 10 years ago our daughter was studying for a semester in France.  We went to visit her in Paris, and things had really changed in just the five or so years before that.

France is/was on the way to becoming a Muslim Majority by 2040 or so (year might be wrong, but you get the idea).  So get you & your kids or grandkids over there before Europe as we know it disappears forever.

uᴉoɔʇᴉq sure seems to be the word tonight.   Tongue

But, I do look forward to learning more about new uᴉoɔʇᴉq upcoming events.

BTC needs a game-changer (or more) now, as well as getting the whole block size debate resolved.
1909  Economy / Economics / Re: WILL BITCOIN BE USED BY ALMOST EVERYONE IN 2022? on: March 31, 2016, 07:11:29 PM
By 2022 Lightning Network will be operative at full speeds and we will be able to send transactions all over the world for super cheap fees and instantly. Only idiots will still be using alternative ways to send money from A to B.
Also only idiots will not have some BTC to diversify their Gold with. In fact, anyone that's smart should be moving more wealth from gold and other commodities to Bitcoin.

It seem you means that everyone who does not use bitcoin is foolish. please do not judge other with your opinion Smiley. imo bitcoin is asset. not money

I am NOT convinced that a high percentage of people will be using BTC in 2022.  Merchant acceptance is a key to BTC's future.  Speed of transactions (Lightning) of course would help, but merchant acceptance and whether or not the BTC user experience can become easier and simpler are more important.

Forecasting the future even further is dangerous!  There are always "Technology Black Swans" too.  Who knows what will happen?
1910  Economy / Economics / Re: bitcoin-gold price correlation on: March 31, 2016, 06:22:59 PM
I just need to know if there is a clear positive or negative correlation

The chart above states a negative correlation of -0.58.  That is pretty high in the world of the "Social Sciences", where a correlation of (plus or minus) 0.30 is often considered "significant" statistically.

Note something I found curious: how when either BTC or gold prices did not change much, neither did the other.  Hmm.

A large sample size is best when using correlations.  That chart only measures those prices for 9 months, which may be "good enough", but statisticians making judgments ALWAYS like to see larger sample sizes.  If there are charts around measuring the above for longer time frames, that would be more useful.

EDIT:  Less useful, but more current and easy to check is the below chart from stockcharts.com.  It is the ratio of GBTC (a Bitcoin ETF I believe) to GLD (the gold ETF).  This measures the ratios, meaning that IF gold and BTC prices were strongly positively correlated THEN the ratio would likely be quite constant.  IF gold and BTC prices were negatively correlated THEN the ratio would bounce around, which it has until lately...  More time (price data) would be useful.

The chart only goes back six months however, Oct 2015 - through March 2016.

Thank you, RealBitcoin, for the list.  I had not seen summaries of some of these technologies so nicely stated.  Great thread.

I cannot speculate as to which are most important, but it is clear that these are exciting developments.  They do bode well for BTC.  And now we can keep our eyes open to see when some of these killer apps come online.
1912  Economy / Economics / Re: What percentage of people on Earth will own Bitcoin by 2020 on: March 31, 2016, 05:35:14 AM
-snip-
indeed that big companies will play an important role in the adoption of bitcoin. I myself expect to see them to accept bitcoin as adoption of bitcoin may increase their sale too

My best guess (which is worth zero) is 10% - 20%, and I think that is optimistic.

nielaminda and zodiac3011 have it right, IMO.  More merchants of all kinds, large & small, accepting Bitcoin appears to be the the key.  If people can actually easily pay with BTC, many of them will.

Privacy is a big component of that.  Privacy is one reason why I like BTC.  I suspect there are many millions of others who feel as I do.
1913  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitgold - Legit or scam ? on: March 31, 2016, 05:26:18 AM

The simple way to use credit/debit cards and yet have gold backing is to just do things the old-fashioned way:

1) Buy and HODL gold.

2) Use ordinary credit/debit cards just as you always have.

*   *   *

If, for whatever reason, you want gold OUT of your own personal control (the only reason I could see is that your home would not be secure) there are other options.  These include local storage (safety deposit box, Brinks & similar, etc.) and overseas storage.

Note that I do NOT recommend other people storing YOUR gold.

Hodl is not a gold its a kind of digital altcoin..
I heard that bitgold is scam and some of them are saying that bitgold are legit.. Im realy confused but i never trusted bitgold.. because they need your real information..

My understanding of the term "HODL" is that it is a fun way of spelling "hold", as in we who own it "hold" Bitcoin.  That is what I meant when I wrote "HODL".

Bitgold may or may not be a scam, I don't know.  I did see that they ponied up for an ad in a mining (as in metals mining, not BTC) magazine I recently bought.

But, why should I (with my own circumstances) take the chance that it is a scam?  I will just HODL my own physical gold, and use credit cards when I want.

I am extremely concerned about the various mishaps that could happen that would wreck our financial system, or even drive us into a totalitarian state.

There are already so many Swans up there flying that we can't even label many of them "Black", because we already know about them...  Yet, it is usually the Black Swans that hit the hardest, as they are considered so unlikely and unpredictable (by Taleb's definition).

These are scary times, and LOTS can go wrong.  Knowing this is one of the reasons I joined bitcointalk and bought BTC.  Gold too.

They claim to be the world's first Physical wallet , so I'm not sure if you should add it or not but here you go : http://opendime.com/ (It's made by Coinkite)

Just checked their website and can't even see how it will look like their physical wallet. Their facebook link does not work, their tweet is 6h ago. I'm sceptic about this but lets see reviews on May/June when they will ship these.

The site is working now.  Here is an image from the top of their Home Page:

opendime.com

The info looks kind of impressive for a one-time use wallet, although $10 each seems a little expensive.  Still, my imagination is captivated...
1916  Economy / Economics / Re: WILL BITCOIN BE USED BY ALMOST EVERYONE IN 2022? on: March 30, 2016, 05:39:23 PM
...

Will BTC be used by almost everyone in 2022?

Nope.  I know very few "Millennials" who use it, yet they are the most connected people around.  There is no way that my Boomer generation will adopt BTC as is, it's just too complicated and clumsy.  "Not ready for primetime."

There are not enough merchants who accept it.  In my eyes, this is perhaps the major stumbling block.

There is ALWAYS the possibility of unknown types of future attacks (of various sorts) against the Bitcoin Ecosystem.

BTC is too volatile for mass use.

While I wish BTC well (and have a nice little stake), I think it will move slowly.
1917  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: earn 0.5 btc on: March 30, 2016, 05:28:42 PM
...

I am happy with bimixer.io and their campaign.  I earn nowhere near BTC0.5, bitmixer pays up to BTC0.035 (per week), and that is if you max out at 50 posts per week (which I have yet to do).  My typical is perhaps some BTC0.025 ($10 or so).

I agree with above comments that if you want more BTC, then get real work, and then buy the BTC.

Having multiple accounts and running up the number of posts just appears unseemly and a little abusive to me (IMO).

Here's an interesting story, and it could be big:

http://bravenewcoin.com/news/dtcc-and-digital-asset-holdings-target-trillion-dollar-repurchase-agreement-market/

Blythe Masters thinks big.  She more-or-less invented the current derivatives...

DTCC is the "ledger" of all stock and bond transactions in the USA.  It is extremely secretive, yet very important.  They almost had a world-class disaster when the hurricane hit NYC, threatening to flood their (paper) records of transactions, which would have been a major ruh-roh.

1919  Economy / Economics / Re: Why Latin American economies are turning to bitcoin on: March 30, 2016, 04:55:32 PM
Perhaps the prevalent corruption among the Latin American governments and the high inflation rate force people to search for an alternative to their local currencies that have decreasing buying power every year and Bitcoin is the perfect digital currency which is relatively stable, out of the reach of corrupted officials and can be moved stealthy around.

Wendigo

You have nicely written up the future of Bitcoin in Latin America.  I think the future is good, but not certain, in LatAm for Bitcoin.  A lot can happen, and BTC is likely to do fine, but who really knows.  YES, Bitcoin is a good defense against corruption and wealth confiscation.

*   *   *

blanchwood

Your English is just fine, don't worry.

Bitcoin in LatAm seems to have two main roles now:

1) Defense against .gov destruction of wealth, also (similarly) as a means of guarding and moving capital past controls...

2) Speculation, yes, I did not know that, but it makes sense.  But, probably speculation with the idea of preserving your capital.

If you JUST want to speculate, well you can always have a poker game with your friends or shoot some dice...    Smiley
