Most of them invested a lot in real gold and real estate as security to back their future.
Real estate dont bring much of a security in real estate bubble. Prices of real estates could drop few times when crash happen. Gold is still king. It is fungible after all.

I hope Elon Musk realises that he is in a position where a simple tweet of him has big impacts on the life of some people.
Remember those kids that hacked in his Twitter and many others. Trump, ... Well basically most famous people. And then they stupidly asked for Bitcoin. With such announcements they could move market 500%. They could buy Bitcoin and then through Trump twitter announce that Bitcoin will be used by USA government and that Tesla will buy Bitcoin with all their money. Those kids could get seriously rich. But, ....

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does any project use the power of all the unused smartphones worldwide?
|
on: February 15, 2021, 02:40:28 PM
|
Hey guys, I am no techie but had the idea that it would be very smart to use/share all the unused power of smartphones (f.e. during night at sleep) for cpu works (like rendering, filecoding etc) and use its free space (even hundrets of MB shall work instead of 200 GB as filecoin needs at least).
It is so obvious to try to use those billions (!) Smartphone potential out there but I dont know any project which do so.
There are so many possibilities therefore. Right now I had the idea of creating a decentralised internet (or messenger at least) based on Bluetooth (or wifi) p2p Network, so it still works after the regular internet may break down.
You can mine Monero with smartphones. You will not mine much, but it is possible. Not jsut with smartphones but there are billions CPUs around the world. Monero uses RandomX mining algo that prevent ASICs to make much of an advance. So CPUs you can buy in every computer store in every country on the World are competitive with ASICs or GPUs. https://www.monerooutreach.org/stories/RandomX.html

If major Dogecoin holders sell most of their coins, it will get my full support. Too much concentration is the only real issue imo.
It is logical that, that is better. Having 1000 holders with 1 coin is better then 1 holder with 1000 coins. It is bad for the price since price of coins with many owners is lower then price where few people hold most coins and hold them. Those big holders always makes fear that they will dump. It is same with Bitcoin. Until Satoshi will spend his coins there will be constant fear that he can tomorrow sell his coins. He should do it ASAP to cancel that fear and to allow people to get cheap Bitcoins so more people could afford them.

Looking at the old Portfolio.. I am not stupid enough to sell because of a few red bars... Will this usually pull back around 20% - 30% and fire back up?
LOL anything can happen. What you said is most possible version. But there are more chances. We could reach a temporary to and price could decline for half year and then make another higher top like it id in 2013. Or bear market that will last 2 years simply start now. Always be ready fr anything in crypto.

We, bitcoiners, should buy a bank
They the ripplers bought Moneygram shares. They can also buy banks and I am sure they will. They print Rippel and have founds to do waverer they want. There is no we Bitcoiners. Bitcoiners are random people earning money however we do. Some are shoemakers some are butchers some are shoe shiners, some are newspaper sellers. Point of using Bitcoin is that we dont need banks, so as we dont need ripple.

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I need an Ethereum alternative

I and my friend built an app on Ethereum network. It's living on https://etherboard.io It's a simple board that you can buy and sell slots on that. It was fun to develop but we have a problem: A slot is 17$ but to buy that slot we need to pay 98$ gas fee. I know that Ethereum 2.0 promises much better gas fees but It's not changing the fact that Ethereum and all other ERC20 tokens are not usable today. So, I'm searching for better solutions. Do you have any suggestions? My needs are: - Its price must not change very fast, stable as much as possible. - Affordable development and transaction costs. - Ability to create and delete wallets programmatically. - Ability to listen to incoming transactions for these wallets. - If you help me with that subject I'll be very happy. Thanks! The closest should be ETC. They were same until few years ago then development split. You can probably have a project on both asset platforms.

Prudent investors who bought Monero during the recent decline in price will receive very good returns in the future.
I dont think you had to be prudent. You just should not fall into FUD that Monero will be baned everywhere. When law firms says otherwise, where exchanges says otherwise, where common sense says otherwise. Not only that but simply everything predicted crazy decade for Monero. Only coin with true privacy. Coin with zero problems with SEC regulation. Coin with next 7 years monetary inflation below Bitcoins (Right now Monero is at 1.34% when Bitcoin is at 1.76%). Coin where number of transactions, so real usage grow 10% a month over more then a year period ( so not a hype or a short term pump). Coin with strong development. Coin with free marketing, since people will start talking about it naturally and free just like they did about Bitcoin.

What are your thoughts? Do you think Dogecoin is overpriced? If not, why? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. In last 5 years Doge was a buy when was below 30 satoshi and was a sell when was over 100 satoshi. Now is at 148 sat. So act accordingly. You will definitely have plenty f chances in next 3 years to buy Doge below 30 sats.

Will New York become a Bitcoin hub
LOL no. They had chances 5 years ago. NY is one of worst places on Earth to be as a Bitcoiner. A lot exchanges were and are available in other USA states, but not in New York. If any state have advantage it is Wyoming.

Economy / Economics / Re: Are institutions hedging?
|
on: February 12, 2021, 05:54:23 PM
|
There’s a topic debating that institutions are manipulating the market, and will “destroy Bitcoin”. I have a different narrative.
While it’s great that Elon Musk and other companies are HODLing bitcoin, but don’t you think that there is more into their FOMO, than profit? Are they actually hedging against the current financial system? If the answer is yes, are they expecting an major economic crisis after the COVID-crisis?
Tesla or Elon Musk are not institutions. Right now many people expect corporations and companies will start buying Bitcoin just like Tesla. Not the institutions. For Tesla. If Musk would want to hedge Tesla against fiat collapse, he would also buy Gold. He did not, he only bought Bitcoin, so it is pure speculation.

Damn this thread. I would still have a lots of BTCs by now if I had not read this thread! My bad decision last year was affected by this thread. Now BTC is too expensive and I can't get enough BTCs as I used to own. I feel so sad each day seeing price of BTC increasing day by day. I would have been a millionaire now if I had not sold most of my portfolio last year when the BTC price was only at 10k - 12k.
I believe 95% of posters in this thread predicted bull market for this year and over $20k prices. So maybe next time read more then just the title.

but nobody can guessed it right (maybe 1 person who chose Other but I don't think so ) and Utah Jazz (20-5) is the first team that get 20 wins in the league. Guess one more time! I cast my vote late. It was after Jazz won 2 times against Dallas. So on January 27. So they had 14 wins by that time.
