1341  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Forbes Magazine calls Bitcoin a "Great Scam" on: December 29, 2017, 10:07:45 AM
what else is new? reading the article it is not exactly calling bitcoin scam, it even starts with "bitcoin itself is not scam". but continues to make it look like shit! the author of the article, Jay Adkisson, is either the least educated person in the world or purposefully tries to undermine the technology. i can write an article saying Dollar is a scam because it is a piece of paper and compare it with coins made of gold and say because gold has intrinsic value, dollar is a big scam. that is exactly what he did there. he doesn't understand how the cryptography of bitcoin works and how the amounts in circulation are all accounted for. and compares it with random numbers!

We have to understand that we are not anymore in the honeymoon stage as far as the mainstream media is concerned. In the many months that the media discovered Bitcoin you would expect many praises and positive news and opinions but as time goes on when the media started to scrutinize the nooks and crannies of Bitcoin they will start to focused on negativity surrounding the topic. This is actually a cycle with the media. This is akin to the love and hate relationship other politicians have with the media.

We also have to pinpoint out that the mainstream media is never the best source of opinions, ideas and anything in between for Bitcoin as they really don't know anything about it and whatever knowledge they have can be based on what they hear from other people who have similar dislike for Bitcoin. The only thing that can silence these critics if if Bitcoin will still be here maybe five years from now and still having a good value on its own.

very true.

but there is also a big difference between having an opinion about bitcoin and its future or in general about cryptocurrencies and publishing something about basics of bitcoin without understanding them first.

i mean we are not talking about some small time website or news agency, Forbes is a big place and you would expect the journalists to at least put a little effort into doing a research before writing something! even if it is misinformation, lies, or even FUD!
1342  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Fork issues on: December 29, 2017, 09:56:14 AM
do you realize that "Speculation" is for "Speculating" about price not for technical support?

So lately I heard that trying to take advantage of new bitcoin forks could potentially steal all your bitcoins?

Could someone please explain this?

there are two ways you can lose your bitcoins if you try to claim these coins:

1. if they don't have replay protection and you are sending coins to an address you don't control. this problem will be caught fast in the early days if it exists and the first people who will get hurt are the exchanges so they won't even list these coins.
solution: simply move your bitcoin before importing your private keys in the new wallet and trying to claim the coins

2. if you download malware instead of a forked-coin-wallet. something like a keylogger, or something that simply asks you to enter your private keys and then sends them to the attacker!
solution: move your bitcoins first and also never install any of these new wallets on your main system. use sandbox or a live linux or another system whichever you prefer. and always use offline signing the transactions.
1343  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BCH VS BTC FEES. on: December 29, 2017, 09:47:18 AM
the possibilities are as follows:
1. you are making it up or making a mistake in your USD calculation

2. the wallet you are using is seriously broken in its fee suggestion, or you are using a third party website as your wallet like an exchange which is charging you that much

3. and finally your transaction size may have been huge possibly 1 MB transaction because $211 is about 0.085 BCH and that is about 850 kB with 10 s/b fee or 1.7 MB with 5 s/b and that is perfectly normal.

none of these change the fact that BCH is a shitcoin which is advertised as real bitcoin because it is cheap. it is cheap because nobody uses it, otherwise Doge, Moon, HTML5, PND, GAY, ANAL,.... are also cheap.
1344  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: John McAfee: The Spokesperson for Cryptocurrency? on: December 29, 2017, 09:41:21 AM
Em... we call him "Antivirus" in our telegram group. The trust on him bit low after he twitter hacked.

was his account really hacked or did the altcoin pump go wrong?

i mean seriously someone who is more like a pump group is not even worth talking about! all he is interested in is cold hard cash. he may be talking about bitcoin the way we like but in the end he is in it to make money.

1346  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 1 Million Altcoins?! on: December 28, 2017, 10:24:29 AM
well this has been going on for a very long time in different forms.
i believe it was harder to create a new coin since you had to do things kind of from scratch even if you forked an already existing project.
but now it is super easy to create a token! which is the reason for the huge increase in the number of them!

good or bad? hard to say. it is good for making money an done of the main purposes of this market is to make you more money!
but at the same time you are correct that many good projects will be overlooked because of all of these useless tokens. on the other hand if a project is really good, then it will be adopted in long term no matter what you put in its path temporarily.
1347  Economy / Speculation / Re: FUD FUD and more FUD on: December 28, 2017, 10:13:54 AM
You just exactly described my relatives who signed up on coinbase during the peak in a panic and asking me for advice. "What is litecoin? Should I buy this? Will it keep going up so I can double my money? What is bitcoin cash? Should I buy? Werent you in that before? What is Ethereum? Should I buy? Woah wtf is happening to btc? Im down. Ok I just bought ripple. Can you explain ripple to me now? This isnt working. I need you to trade for me."

lol

I kind of see now why we rushed from 10k to 19,5k and then went suddenly down again Cheesy

it did that for the same exact reason why it rushed from $3000 to $7800 and then suddenly down again to $5400 (November 2017)

oh wait it is not done yet. the same reason was again when it rushed from $2000 to $4900 and suddenly down to $3100 (September 2017)

you thought i was done? haha big mistake.
the same reason repeated when price rushed from $890 to $2700 and suddenly down to $1800 (May 2017)

haha, i can go all day long with the same reason when price rushed from $450 to $778 and suddenly down to $550 (June 2016)

and finally from $200 to $470 and  back to $360 in November 2015

we even had the same reason back in August 2012 when price went up from $6 to $16 and suddenly dropped to $10

i let you find these and more on the charts yourself...

call it FUD, manipulation, fluctuation, pump and dump, bubble, newbies FOMO/PANIC, whale shenanigan, winter is coming, bitcoin is dead, bitcoin is king, normal market movement, natural adoption curve, blah blah! it doesn't make any difference. that is what has been happening forever. Grin
1348  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How will u explain bitcoin to a newbie from zero (start)??? on: December 28, 2017, 10:06:15 AM
i will introduce him to google and this guy called "Andreas Antonopoulos". just search his name, visit his website and if you can visit youtube and watch the things he has to say.

he covers almost all the topics there are about bitcoin and he is knowledgeable enough that you can be sure what he is telling you is  correct. unlike most things you find online which are weird explanation of how bitcoin works!

there is also a good book by the same person called "mastering bitcoin: programming the open blockchain" if you have the time, read it.
1349  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think about the future of BTC when fees increase? on: December 28, 2017, 09:58:11 AM
The future of bitcoins will be even brighter than what it is today as the value of bitcoins keeps on increasing continuously with a small dip in the crypto market like in normal stock and share markets. Every day new bitcoin users are entering the bitcoin community and due to high demand of bitcoins the value keeps on increasing there only a limited number of 21 million bitcoins available after mining all the bitcoins still the value increases due to rise in demand of bitcoins.
My friend became a billionaire when he bought 100 BTCs in 2015. I was impressed with her vision!

100  bitcoin at the highest price (the ATH) would have been worth $1,960,000 or round up to 2 million dollar and that is only if he sold at ATH.
2 million doesn't make you a "billionaire", he is barely even a millionaire!
1350  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Segwit2X NOT Cancelled, the HF might still on on: December 28, 2017, 09:52:15 AM
The S2X fork coming up today is a scam.

Be aware

why did you bump this old topic to say this?

these 3 (yes 3) have nothing to do with each other Cheesy
first one is the real SegWit2x  which had Jeff Garzik and the huge miner support which was canceled because it had no community support.

the second one which OP quoted is a cry of some sore loser who bought the S2X futures IOU tokens and lost a lot of money because it got dumped right after the cancellation. they lied about wanting to continue the project to be able to cash out with less loss.

this current one is a shitcoin which decided to steal the name of the project while having nothing in common with the original project and then add 6 million premine to it!
1351  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New project - whitepaper or code first? on: December 27, 2017, 11:35:12 AM
first thing that is needed is a useful product.
so far the new projects are all some abstract idea and will remain just that until the end of their lives. they never produce anything, never get adopted anywhere and have no usage.

the project may as well don't have any whitepaper! a paper  doesn't do anything for the coin!

of course you are talking about "success" and that can have a lot of different meanings. it may be the usual thing where a token gains some value while getting pumped. in which case none of these matter. the only important things are : advertisement and good pumping team. nothing else.
1352  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do there is a possibility of another correction in bitcoin? on: December 27, 2017, 11:26:26 AM
no there is no correction left to happen.

now there are only fluctuations before the next phase begins. right now the price is testing the upper resistance to see if it can be broken. if there were enough demand and less panic sellers the price will break out and rises up leading to the start of next phase.

if it  can't break the resistance and there were still panic sellers and those who think of this as a bull trap, then price will come down (it won't be a correction) a little and then tests it again and again until it breaks out and rises again.
1353  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why are the coins pumping? on: December 27, 2017, 11:17:55 AM
I found the information in one telegram channel that the GBG coin will grow up in the nearest future and will reach $ 500, $ 1000 and even $ 4000 for the next 24 months!
it is not "information" it is some random dude talking about some random coin which may or may not be pumped.
and the numbers are not $ they are satoshi!

Quote
This information seems unbelievable, but i can't follow the link to the source, since it was a screenshot in the telegram channel!

It also seemed me strange that the forecasts in all the channels are given in the same form like this one:
it is not unbelievable! most of these channels are operated by same people or have a lot of members that are the same. when someone wants to pump some altcoin they buy it first and then spread the news in all of these channels.

sometimes they get some fools to buy their bags and make profit and sometimes they fail and lose money.

it is not a forecast, it is not speculation, it is not weird. it is pump group Cheesy
1354  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why tech giants love BTC and Financial giants hate BTC? on: December 27, 2017, 11:09:58 AM
actually i believe that these "financial giants" understand bitcoin and its market perfectly well. that is why you think they "hate" bitcoin.

if you check things out, you can see they usually become super active against bitcoin during the drops and when the corrections are happening. why the perfect timing? it can not be a coincidence in my opinion. they know well enough that they can manipulate bitcoin price easily by their media attacks.
1355  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Segwit2x Tomorrow - will this reduce Bitcoin fees or will have no impact? on: December 27, 2017, 11:03:00 AM
this is yet another altcoin from a series of altcoins such as bitcoin gold, bitcoin silver, bitcoin diamond, bitcoin god, bitcoin ... and they do nothing but make the developers richer because they add a premine to their shitcoins so they can dump it all on the market and get the money out and go away.

it is more like a joke. i was actually tempted to create a new fork  for myself and call it bitcoin joke fork. that would be funny to see how it will work out. maybe it can become the second Doge!
1356  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: who hate altcoins ;) mostly eth on: December 26, 2017, 10:05:21 AM
only people who expect more out of altcoins than they can offer will ever be disappointed and end up hating them.
others who are realistic and see what altcoins are for real, will never be disappointed nor hate them.

altcoins are a purely speculative tool with extremely high risks and only short term potential that get pumped and dumped due to manipulations.
i don't expect anything more out of them apart from the short term pump profit they give me so i don't hate any of them. Cheesy
1357  Economy / Economics / Re: CHINA ban Rise and Down on: December 26, 2017, 09:56:03 AM
Bumping this thread to post an article from telegraph.co.uk
Beijing still trying to figure out how to control (=ban) the mining activity in the country...  Roll Eyes

everything will come down to the corruption in China, and in the end they can not even put a dent in Chinese mining operations.
it runs deep and with the added financial situation in China and the fact that mining is filling the pockets of so many people legit or through bribes, it can not be closed at all.

imagine a small city that has a small power plant that is alive only because of the mining farm. the city people are earning money because they have a job in the mining farm or in the power plant or anything related to this mining operation. there are officials that see this and may even be bribed to let the mining go on.

the government goes to this city and tries shutting down the farm. they will shut it down for a couple of hours and they say "we ban bitcoin now. everything fine" then things will be started soon afterwards.
1358  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price could hit $50,000 in a few years, analyst says on: December 26, 2017, 09:49:13 AM
They totally need to fix their issues first or whatever price it reaches will just come tumbling down back to square one.

Who is "they" please??
And what issues are you talking about?

"they" stands for the bitcoin developers aka bitcoin core team.
believe it or not many people will always want to centralize everything even in words and want someone else to do everything for them and they just follow like a sheep. that is how every other system including many altcoins work.
this is one of the cancers that bitcoin is facing. people who don't understand what "decentralized" means.

and the issues are obviously the high fees and scaling bitcoin.
and most of these people don't even know what a full node is let alone run one.
1359  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Online wallets vs Hardware wallets on: December 26, 2017, 09:39:48 AM
first of all don't confuse "online" wallets with "web" wallets. these may seem similar but they are very different. an online wallet is what is connected to internet, it can be bitcoin core on your desktop connected to the internet. but a web wallet is as the name suggests a website that you use to create a wallet. some times they store the private keys and control them instead of you and sometimes they don't.

security-wise it is cold storage (including hardware wallets) first then a hot desktop wallet and last web wallets at the bottom of the list.

as for altcoins sometimes their official wallets contain malware because they are shady (scam) coins. so be careful about them. and most of them are not reviewed despite being open source.
1360  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can bitcoins continue to hold? on: December 26, 2017, 09:34:35 AM
Bitcoin can be hold at any price even present price $20000. Because there are on 10 percent chances to dip Bitcoin and 90 present chances it will go up.

present bitcoin price is around $14,000 and rises up and down from this while traders are accumulating bitcoin before the next rally starts.

but i agree that the chances of rising are so much higher.
we are on the verge of adoption explosion, and things have a higher chance of speeding up towards higher prices rather than anything else. and this is just the beginning of the rises to come.
