441  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Data Center Mining Garage and Man Mining Cave ( PART 2 !!!!!!!!) on: June 23, 2017, 10:38:57 PM
I may be adventuring into the realm of a mini-warehouse mining setup... i found a business park near me that has semi-decent 398sqft mini units for $298/month... they are already wired to some degree.. but they are limited to 220v @ 100amps....

Only issue keeping me to signing today and jumping onboard is the unknown of how to cool inside of such a tight space.. ive been told the doors cant be modified at all, but the inside is allowed to be modified as long as i return it back to how it is now when i leave... so im able to remove one of the sheets of plywood and place some sort of vent if i want in the ceiling.. the rafters are hollow between all the units and the roof has gutter ventilation only tho..... the rollup door is pretty loose and with locking the unit via the locking mechanisim, there is enough space to place about 2-2 1/2 inches under the rollup door in movement, so i could lock the door from the inside and keep wood wedged under it to allow somewhat of ventilation across the bottom....

Anyone on here have any experience in regards to this type of setup?

Little concerned... the api earnings are not matching up to my earnings today... looks like today will be one of the lowest payed days in a while....

hmq1725 is broke need to disable it for now..

Im currently only mining equihash, skein, and blake2s as my rotation

Well T5500 Rig 1 lasted a whole 2 weeks nearly mining lol... woke up today to a dead rig when checking on the status... went out restarted it, booted up with a 1 and 4 code flashing on the front panel... i let it run while going to do an errand, came back home to it dead again with same code... called newegg they are RMAing it... thankfully i have my spare coming on Saturday, i had this odd feeling that i should keep one on standbye  a few days ago.. so i ordered one of the 180 versions with the newer cpu and more memory... was only a few bucks more... gonna keep restarting this thing over and over tell i get the spare in tomorrow in the mail...

T5500 rig 2 and 3 are still going strong... that first one was the one that was dog slow from the start... knew something was wrong when i got the other 2 in and they were worlds faster than the first one..

i am still getting a lot of random periods of rejects on groestl algo....like day 3 of it happening randomly, its the same on multiple rigs

Just to throw more into the fire on the high tdp to low tdp mining....

You really need to buy a watt meter to see the FULL draw of the system and you need to understand your specific gpu very well, every gpu acts differently...

I am onboard with the low wattage, high ratio of hashpower per watt numbers, this is the standard i have been adjusting to and i have just recently taken it to even more levels of adjusting after learning some of the coding of the ccminers i use....

It all starts at your PSU, they are rated at X watts @ x% at multiple levels... I found initially that my first 4 card gtx1080ti was pulling like 91 watts more than my 2nd 4 card gtx1080ti rig, with both being identical rigs... made no sense.. settings were the same.. but what i did have a change at was i was powering the 4 cards on the first rig with a 850watt corsair gold rated PSU and the 2nd one was using my 1300watt evga plat rated PSU... i unplugged the corsair and swapped the PSU with a 1200watt evga plat rated psu i had for another rig and the power consumption while mining drop 87watts right off the start with the different PSU....

The second part of the PSU is the ratings @ different % of use... some psu's when you look into them are rated at like 80-83% @ 50% draw, but they get stupid low at like 80%.... my corsair psu rating online at 80% was something stupid like 68% which is just terrible...  so running a plat+ rated PSU will increase your profits from the start...

Then you run into thermal/power throttling of GPU's, after reading in ccminer about the coding and such, i found in regards to ccminer's in general.. not sure if this is true among other miners, but in ccminer when you get the hashpower reports every so many seconds, that is actually the PEAK number being reported out of 30 (default) samples over x seconds... not the average... so it may look like your hashing higher than you truly are.... if you go into the batch and lower the sample rate and increase the reporting rate, you will find that your gpu is not hashing at the previous rate on a consistent rate, because your gpu bounces in and out of thermal throttle/power throttle multiple times a second as it trying to maintain power and temps to the levels you set them in your OC software. so by default the split seconds that your gpu is pausing thermal/power throttling, the ccminer is picking up those spikes in hashrates and reporting it as the peak number during that reporting period... a simple way to see if your throttling is using gpu-z, under monitor if your GPU is giving you ALL the hashing it can at the levels you have it set at, it will say pause under throttling, meaning the core and memory are able to perform mining at PEAK power based on the tdp and OC settings you have it set at....

So a good way to tune GPU's is to under power them so you stay out of these throttling events as much as possible... if you look in msi afterburner on the left side there is a white value and a red value above the frequency your gpu is currently reporting its running at. Those are the base and max limits your GPU can perform work at based on the settings you have it currently selected at. If your reported freq is not within a few of the max red numbers, then you are litterally pushing your GPU to work under its capabilities bouncing in and out of throttling... cryptomining blog has a writeup on this stuff, they took a system that was reporting at 80% tdp and an identical rig tuned down into the 60%ish range... even tho the one reporting 80% tdp was saying it was hashing 13% more per second, when they ran the 2 rigs for 24hrs, the difference between the 2 wallets was less than 1% in earnings... nearly within a margin of error range... yet the one at 80% used nearly 40% more power consumed at the wall...

These are mostly Nvidia pascal commands only

If your ccminer your using supports the same codes as mine, you can use the following code in a batch file to see your actual performance also....
Code:
nvidia-smi -q -d PERFORMANCE

One of the ways you can tune your GPU's is via the miner directly instead of using msi afterburner... i am wanting to switch to this method very soon as its extremely beneficial if you mine a multi-algo setup, you can tune your gpu's to run at the most efficient settings for that miner/algo combo, then you can set it into the code of the batch on each algo as a change of settings BEFORE starting mining, so it will always be running at its best settings when it switches algo's...

Code:
--mem-clock=3505
this line triggers a command to your gpu to set MAX memory clock on your GPU to 3505, just as if you were changing it in msi afterburner and clicked accept...

Code:
--gpu-clock=1150
this line triggers a command to your pgu to set MAX core clock on your GPU to 1150, these numbers are just random for example

Code:
--plimit=100W
this line triggers a command to your gpu to set TDP to 100w max, so the miner will mine at 100w or less, it will vary as throttling happens....

Code:
--max-temp=80c
this line triggers a sensory sampling, if the gpu hits 80c, the miner will skip the next blocks of data tell the gpu temps drop back down in which you can set a resume code to retrigger the mining again at a different temp....

Does the unpaid balance ever get caught up?
Im up to 0.137BTC on unpaid over the week, but my balance to be paid out today is only up to 0.0211 so far today...seems like my unpaid balance is growing daily, while my balance to be paid is staying steady around $10/gpu.... little concerned

If your looking to buy more GPU's, ebay has a 10% ebay buck thing going on today... i just bought 2 more 1080ti's and got 140 in ebay bucks

Any opinions on the EVGA 2 fan model 1080ti's? was thinking of buying 2 of those since ebay is limiting me to only 2 of the gigabytes right now...

Which miner are you using for Groestl?  Mine switched twice today and didn't show any rejected shares?

I used Klaus' ccminer for Groestl.

ccmineralexis78
Alexis78 does not support Groestl for some reason, only Myr-Grs.

Sorry i miss-spoke, i just double checked, i looked to quick previously.. i was using ccminer-x64 2.0 for Groestl, i have mined that algo previously without issues... so not sure what the issue was today, it was rejected on all my rigs, not just 1

I had my miner mine Groestl for a short period 3 times today with like 98% rejects... all 3 times it switched to that algo..

I dont know if the order will actually ship.. but its worth a try... super cheap price.. think they left a 7 off the price...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/222551926796

I ordered 2, just in case because of the ebay money back guarantee...

Question about risers.

I have an older Gigabyte motherboard its a P67-xxxxx running and i5 CPU.  It has two full PCI-e slots and I am currently running two 1080 ti FE on it as an open air rig.  It also has one small PCI-e slot.

I have a third card running on an even older motherboard that only has one PCI-e slot.  I want to get rid of this and get all three cards running on the open air rig.

I know I can probably do this with a riser.  Is there any gotcha's with slightly older motherboards?  At this stage I dont want to purchase a new motherboard if this one is going to do the job.

I was looking at this Riser.

https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/TISHRIC-VER006C-Blue-PCI-E-Extender-1x-to-16x-PCI-Express-Riser-Card-60cm-USB-3/2942230_32808611545.html?spm=2114.12010615.0.0.JffWvK

I have a 1000W PSU connected to this rig.  (slightly overkill I know but huge shortage of plat PSU in newzealand i didnt have a choice).  I was thinking if I get the 6 pin riser I can plug a connector directly from my power supply to the riser as I have heaps of extra connectors rather than using the adapter that comes with it.  Is this advisable?

I am not sure if its my motherboard or the P67, i also have a gigabyte P67 w/i5 on my 2nd mining rig with the 2 gtx1080ti's... i have tried 3 different brand risers on it and cant get them to work in any slot except the full length slots.. so i can only run 2 cards on it... kinds irritates me because it has the ability to run 6 if i could get it working... best of luck with yours
Or is it better to use the adapter and connect it to one of Sata power connectors?

Is the linked version the type I should be going for there is several to pick from.  What do I need to look out for when buying off ali express? I am limited to buying from there as I can't really find them in my country.

Thanks

I am running right now on Windows 7......Teamviewer'ed in during the day to keep an eye on my ONE rig lol from my work computer.

Sometimes I turn it off and periodically check zpool to make sure it is still active.

Now to my question those of you who have multiple rigs--how do you monitor/change settings on each one?  It is my assumption you do not change settings often on them once you pick a miner and pool?  You do not hook up a monitor to each one and keyboard when you need to do something?

Curious--planning the next stage of my mining and was wondering about this.

Thanks.

I have no experience with this setup, can you add additional miners or is Alexis78 and ccminer-x64 available to be used in this software? i heard the overclocking is disabled currently, so you cant underclock your cards.. is this still a thing?

smos NVIDIA support currently is using only Powerlimit and dev is still working on the OC/UC settings, and adding more NVIDIA mining app like EWBF and others are promised in the future.

I tested briefly my Zotac 1070 Mini rigs on smOS and its mining at 6x25MH=150MH at 660watts. Its nice to see the non-AMD rigs in the same dashboard, however its $2 bucks per rig .... so all my NVIDIA rigs will be on nvOC since its free currently.

Currently all my Nvidia rigs are on nvOC Linux, namely, Zotac 1070s mining ETH, 30.xxMHx6=180MHs at 950watts
All my 1080tis rigs are exclusively selling ZEC hash at Nicehash getting BTC in return.
And 1 lone ZEC rig with 2 x 1080ti Aorus with Windows-to-Go (W10) thumbdrive.

Nice, ya i look forward to the simple mining.. would be nice to place it all under 1 monitoring system.. 2/rig isnt really all that big of deal imo if the software fulfills what i want it to do.. i look forward to testing it out in the future.. right now i have been to busy to test anything outside of windows.. have immediately family in the hospital.. so i have been on here mostly from the hospital room, while all my mining rigs are sitting at home or at my parents house...

Good news is that the USB drive is still functioning perfectly..... i was comparing notes from previously, it seems windows uses more memory on the usb drive during mining over using the hard drive.. so i am assuming its placing little to no use on the USB drive and placing all the transactions in the memory... which is a good thing, it will greatly increase the life of the usb drive since its really only being used by windows for basic idle task, since it seems the mining occurs all in the memory... one thing to note is i seen no difference really on the watt o meter on power consumption going from mechanical hdd to usb.. so the use of the USB is more of a function in regards to cheaper builds, requiring far less wires to assemble rigs in the future...

I am still waiting for my 128gb sd card to come in the mail with the usb 3.0 adapter for it.. i will try to run it next on windows.. since they are cheaper than the USB drives themselves due to phone industry driving down the price of the 128gb sd cards..

In the past i have been teamviewing into my miner rigs and changing the batch files and such manually using the crappy low resolution since my rigs have no onboard video cards really... but recently i started playing with Awesome Miner. I will be upfront with you the software is designed to be a auto profit switching platform, but i find it extremely limited in regards to Nvidia algo's to mine due to it only allowing the mining on algo's listed under GPU tab on whattomine.com... so instead of using it for its intended use, i have been playing with using it for just remote control.. i have been adding the modded Nemo Batch files to the command line windows for custom configuration and just running my own miners manually without using the built in features of the auto switch... the batch file works like normal switching between the 3 i have set... the benefit of the awesome miner is it allows me to see if the miners are mining at any given time all from one screen and when i want to make changes to switch the batch file, i can click send to miner and it will push the batch file to it and allow me to start it without ever remote logging into that computer. The only drawback so far is the lack of stats, since your not using the built in features it has no clue what your mining, at what rate and profits.. so they are just all empty.. but it does give me a quick view of what coins are going at in regards to earnings on the coins supported on whattomine.com

I have emailed the developer and he said he is talking with whattomine to add more algo's to his website soon to allow more coins to be used on his platform

When i installed Windows on the GO, it said it was installing Windows Enterprise edition and that 32GB was the minimal size USB drive needed, but the actual install size on the USB drive is only 22.1GB. I am going to leave this in my mining rig running for the next few days to make sure its stable running it this way.. i did notice a small drop in wattage running the usb drive over the mechanical hd also...

forget about 32 gig drives for windows.

my wife grabbed a win10 netbook a while back with a 32 gig ssd. ran ok for a while till the last win10 update. came up with an "out of space" error and would not update. wound up compressing the whole drive to get room.

and it has a sd card for most programs/data so the only thing on the ssd is windows and thunderbird. and i run ccleaner religiously. 32 gigs is just too small.

get a 64 gig drive for windows.

not to forget about 16gb virtual drive requirement for Claymore running multi GPU, a ultra fast 64gb will be minimum..... 64gb usb3 will be expensive to deploy VS a 120gb Kingston SSD or a simple 64gb SSD.

hmm, i didnt know this.. i have never used claymore.. so that is good info to know going forward...

Something i ordered on amazon today to test is to use a usb adapter with micro-sd card. I found people claiming just as fine of performance using the micro sd cards on windows to go... plus i have been wanting to upgrade my micro sd card in my cell phone.. so i ordered a 128gb micro sd card off amazon for $18

im sorry i mistakenly typed in the wrong number when i was typing up the above numbers... good catch..
I opened up my spreadsheet and the numbers were not even close to what i typed earlier.. i will correct it.. so you understand....

My current hashrate for skein is 12,503Mh/s across the 13 cards.. not 22503... my bad

So currently pool reports 0.00413, so 12,503x0.00413=0.05163739mBTC/day or $129.37, so $9.95/ea

what ccminer are you using to mine blake256r8 algo?

I mine blake2s with ccminer-x64 2.0
