Do you reimburse society for them?

Yes, because the post is long. You're supposed to click on the quote.

FirstAscent, could you please address this, one by one? If you can't find yourself able to stoop to that level, then I'm afraid I will have to side with his yet-unrefuted claims.

I'm going to continue eating. Thank you for your consideration, FirstAscent, but I will not become a vegetarian either. I also have no problem eating octopus; it's quite delicious.

Give it to PatrickHarnett and get 1.08 BTC/week on it. That's almost 50 bucks a month which can go towards ASICs

So basically, it's unethical for me to kill any animal without giving everyone in the world an infinite sum of money and paying damages to the animal's family. I guess I'll just go on being unethical, then.

So, when you kill a whale, do you have to reimburse everyone for: 1. The whale they can no longer kill 2. All the life it will no longer stimulate 3. Its infinite theoretical offspring
And you get to keep the blubber?
Also, the deleterious effects on the climate, assuming you read the article fully. Which in turn affects the value of real estate, species extinction rates on land due to their inability to relocate their habitats due to barriers, which in turn affects the health of ecosystems due to how species co-evolved to live together... What if I levitate the whales to my moon-habitat, then levitate their offspring back?

Payments would begin after one month. I'll pay $500/month for the first three months, then I would pay $1000/month for a few months, $2000/month, etc. until the $34,000 is paid off. You can keep the title in your name till it's repaid if it gives you more confidence, I don't care, as long as I'm driving it. FYI you would also most likely have to pay for max level insurance on the car for the duration of the loan, and pay for secondary driver insurance as well as the lenders insurance (IIRC you would have to do that up here, I'm not sure if you would in the states, someone correct me on that) You would be paying a few more than 500/month I would hazard a guess. It would largely depend on his driving record and age. A male teenager with no collisions in his record would still be paying $7K a year on a car in this price range and with the insurance lenders want (you better be getting the max on comprehensive, but as a lender the no-fault doesn't really matter to me).

So will you take the bet, myrkul?

I must advise you that Ad-Hominem and condescension are tools I rarely see used successfully, and they never work for an educated audience.
I'm confused, so I going to ask this... Which one of them are you talking too? Or are you talking to both? I was talking to FirstAscent

5 BTC. Bet. Wager. Before humanity. Mankind. Finds extraterrestrial, sentient life. Smart aliens. Humanity. Mankind. Will be able to either destroy entire planets (world bye-bye), or entirely wipe out said aliens. Extinct ET.
Yes or no? I'd prefer not to use escrow as the time value of my btc is quite high.

Me? hwat.
So, we're agreed, then, that being peaceful at first, and only fighting if attacked is the way to go? So we're agreed, then, 5 BTC? Hwat? He called me an isolationist. How in the world does my bewildered response of one word translate into agreement? I'll agree on the "peaceful at first" part. Well, you quoted my response in the message, along with his, so I assumed it was a response to both. Why won't you agree on the "only fight if we're attacked" part? Didn't we just go over how badly it would end if we attacked unprovoked? (No, saying, "Go away" is not provocation) It appears my response to you was lost (I'm on my phone). I wanted to wager 5 BTC that we'd be able to destroy planets or planet-inhabitants before we find sentient life.

Re: who gave them the right to the rainforest, and land rights in general (spilling into the taxation thread)
When multiple parties are in contention over a piece of land, they must negotiate to find the most mutually beneficial path. If that can't happen, then there is no invisible hand, and capitalism is fundamentally flawed.

Mutually Assured Destruction? Remember the Cold War? Those drills where they made us get under our desk, the "Duck and Cover" videos, the doom clock, etc
Are you an idiot? Do you actually think that a half-dozen space-faring civilizations can be wiped out simultaneously by one? it's not like we'll have nova-producing bombs pointed at every sun. Hey, maybe they open their doors to trade before we completely destroy them. Matthew Perry?
Could you be any more isolationist? Me? hwat.

If they're strong enough to do that, we just wave MAD in their face.
