2801  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best way to sell/buy bitcoins without fees? on: June 26, 2011, 05:02:48 AM
One of the best ways is likely by using #bitcoin-otc over on Freenode, assuming you have the patience to get a good reputation.
2802  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My thoughts on the (rediculolus) idea of "blacklisting" coins on: June 26, 2011, 04:47:23 AM
This may sound sarcastic but if you had taken your post above and broken it up into 50 different pieces and posted them, you would likely be a junior member.

Just a thought...
That's not necessary. With this high quality of post, I would approve the whitelist request instantly. In fact...  Wink

Great explanation for why blacklisting coins is silly. Hopefully, we can refer to this next time someone asks why it can't be done.
2803  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Want to buy 1 BTC to check out the system on: June 26, 2011, 04:36:57 AM
I need them to test a service I'm going to launch soon. I can't find a fast way to buy bitcoin ATM. Thank you!
I recommend using either the testnet for that, or testnet-in-a-box. You should be able to find more info by searching the forum.
2804  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: mtgox_client..some info on: June 26, 2011, 04:28:37 AM
Damn! That's... thorough...
2805  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Businesses and Developers, Let's Get Started! on: June 26, 2011, 04:00:51 AM
EDIT: In only 15 minutes, I will be eligible to post outside of this newbie section. Isn't this thread supposed to be for allowing businesses to get out before the standard waiting period?
On behalf of the moderation team, I apologize. I've reminded the other moderators to check this thread more often.

We got Goxed again Sad
2808  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why does wallet.dat change? on: June 24, 2011, 09:44:55 PM
it stores the header of the highest block you've downloaded, so it can quickly request and validate the next block.  Otherwise, as you mentioned, most wallet modifications happen when you perform transactions.

Will
The reason we now store that in the wallet is so that you can swap wallets in and out and they'll know how far back they have to rescan. Before, you had to do a full rescan of the blockchain whenever you swapped your wallet back in and had a transaction to/from the wallet since you swapped it out.
2809  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I just got "account claim rejected" from Mt Gox - anyone else? on: June 24, 2011, 07:39:58 AM
if any of them got into our email (gmail or others) they probably went directly to see the last IP that accessed it. I didn't want to write any of this until an acceptable amount of time passed as they are also posting and reading this here too.

For instance, that thread with people posting their number from the list was an exceptionally idiot idea. xD
I just hope the ones that did post in that thread were lying or practice very high level security.

I'll tell you another way someone could get your ip.
Post a picture in a thread here hosted on a server you control.
every user that visits that thread pulls that image to their IP, every offsite hosted avatar too.
Your ip is logged now.

What do they do now?
they take that list and run it through pipes and probe every single IP.
Additionally, many of us are on IRC. Congrats, you now have tons of IP addresses.

Honestly, last IP address is likely just ignored unless you still are using that IP address.
2810  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Whitelist Requests (Want out of here?) on: June 24, 2011, 07:08:38 AM
And Maybe, Just maybe, can we move this along. Maybe, just maybe check this more than once a day?Huh HMMMM, yeah, that would be great!
Sorry, but this whole MtGox thing has left us short moderation staff. That, and we lost Atlas.  Sad
2811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My account request was rejected by MtGox - what should I do? on: June 24, 2011, 06:46:57 AM
01:01 < MagicalTux> anyway if you got more than ~$100 worth of bitcoin/usd and didn't provide a last balance, the system will auto-reject
Putting that much weight on this piece of information seems stupid. If the account were hacked the hackers would know how much money is in the account.
I agree that there's too much weight on that, but you do have to remember that there is only one person who has the balance sheet outside of MtGox: the original hacker that caused the crash. Everyone else only has the user database.

That said, it should only be supporting evidence.
2812  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Could use some troubleshooting help... Bicoin wallet is crashing? on: June 24, 2011, 06:00:05 AM
It just needs to redownload the blockchain. It can take several hours.
2813  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Could use some troubleshooting help... Bicoin wallet is crashing? on: June 24, 2011, 05:39:34 AM
In your C:\Users\{Username}\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin folder backup and delete all the files except wallet.dat, blk0001.dat, and blkindex.dat then try running the client. If you still get errors, then delete blkindex.dat, then blk0001.dat. If you STILL get errors, then your wallet is corrupt, and we'll have to perform some more advanced troubleshooting techniques to repair it.
2814  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin7.com on: June 23, 2011, 10:07:35 PM
It might help if you read this first:

That said, this post is not an endorsement.
2815  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens to the 1.23xxxxxx smaller amounts when transferred? on: June 23, 2011, 08:19:06 PM
What is going on?  Did I lose out on that collective 0.01?   Cry
Yes. Because you were using an old client, it was used as a transaction fee.
2816  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How can I tell a new wallet has generated its 100 addresses? on: June 23, 2011, 07:28:19 PM
... want to make sure I don't repeat the same mistake.
It's simple: Make a backup AFTER you finish the transactions you want, not BEFORE. Assume that a backup is worthless as soon as you use it again, if you plan on deleting your unencrypted wallet. The key pool should only be depended on in emergencies, so only depend on it for the regular backups you make of your spending wallet, NEVER for your savings wallet.
2817  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wikipedia wants to delete Satoshi Nakamoto page. HELP!! on: June 23, 2011, 07:21:40 PM
Votes don't matter at Wikipedia, only the discussion. Feel free to merge any relevant info into the Bitcoin wiki, since that page WILL be deleted.
2818  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: my linux box was hacked today and almost 400 BTC were stolen! on: June 23, 2011, 04:20:23 AM
I have permanently saved his post where he shows that he owns the address I specified. Feel free to use this in your lawsuit:

2819  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: my linux box was hacked today and almost 400 BTC were stolen! on: June 23, 2011, 04:09:26 AM
Im the one who sent him 35 BTC that he now owes me because he promised me an XFX 6990.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Block Explorer verifies that he still has your SPECIFIC funds.
2820  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: my linux box was hacked today and almost 400 BTC were stolen! on: June 23, 2011, 03:16:14 AM
This is most definitely a scam, and I have proof.

Yesterday, he pointed out in a support request that about 230 BTC in this address was his on behalf of his customers:
http://blockexplorer.com/address/16k6KeqY13MEwXCKa6uMWvsg7Bmqq1TzXb

Thus far:
35.5 BTC haven't moved
At MINIMUM 78 BTC was change that is still in his control (if it was the other way around, it was 150)

That's 113.5 BTC that the thief decided to just leave. Yeah... BULLSHIT!
