Sorry, but we'll need to see some source code before we let you post an exe here.
2622  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: If I purchase BTC via credit card from VirWox etc., how anonymous is that? on: July 23, 2011, 08:04:46 PM
How traceable is a purchase of Bitcoins from a place like VirWox, when you purchase the Bitcoins using credit card or PayPal funds?
Completely traceable, but only really to law enforcement and other such people who have the power to have VirWox turn over their records.
Are Bitcoins equally anonymous no matter the source of your funds, or does the source of the funds change how traceable your Bitcoins are?
The source AND the eventual destination can be used to find you. Using bitcoins for anything illegal is a bad idea.
2623  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I explain bitcoin to my mother? on: July 23, 2011, 07:47:23 PM
The PR talking points apply very well here:
1.  don't talk about mining.  its confusing.
2.  don't talk about the blockchain.  its even more confusing.
3.  say that bitcoin is "digital gold".  that'll definitely make them sit up.
4.  say that only a fixed number will be issued and then NO MORE.
5.  say that since its digital it can be instantaneously transported across borders w/o detection.  they'll immediately realize the implications of this.
6.  don't say anything about "cryptocurrency" or "cryptography".  this makes it sound like bitcoin is trying to hide something along the likes of Silk Road and other illegal activities.
7.  say that bitcoins are secured by "advanced mathematical algorithms" that prevent counterfeiting.  sounds impressive.
8.  try to avoid saying anything about Satoshi since an unknown character brings to mind a shady type character or hidden agenda.
9.  do explain that the decentralized or "spread out" nature of bitcoin computers makes it indestructable to gov't or Fed intervention.    they'll like that.
10.  when they ask what its denominated in say that bitcoin is a currency UNTO ITSELF and "floats" in value against other fiat currencies like the USD but bitcoin is in fact NOT a fiat currency.  you might mention that you think that bitcoin will become the gold std against which all other currencies will be measured.

Why don't you sue him?

DO NOT OPEN A NEW TICKET!

I did not open a new ticket. It is not even closed. Supposedly it is "currently being processed" by Natalie. She has not replied since July 6  Roll Eyes.
Oh, well, nevermind. I guess this is one of the few cases where you should open a new ticket...
2626  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: possible to use up ALL wallet address combinations? on: July 20, 2011, 09:05:16 AM
First off, what you think of as an "address" is really a base58 representation of a 160-bit hash plus a checksum. So, there's considerably less possibilities. Only 2^160, or about 1.46 × 10^48. However, that's still pretty big. If you could generate one million addresses per second (most computers can only do 1/1000th of that right now, at best), then it'd still take 4.634391290369428×10^34 YEARS for one person to exhaust the address space. That's besides the fact that we can switch to 256-bit addresses (the size of our current public keys) without any modification to the current protocol.

Contact a moderator or an admin, they are able to see IP of members.

After that try to find him
Considering that part of the payment was Dwolla, we already know his name fairly accurately, assuming that it was actually connected to a bank account.
2628  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Private key for address with 5 BTC. on: July 20, 2011, 07:11:54 AM
Sent 0.1BTC for the first four characters to get things started.

>>> random.seed(3)
>>> for i in range(4): print random.randint(1, len(data))

>>> for i in range(4): print r[random.randint(1, len(data))]

from that output it doesn't show that you type random.seed the second time, so it would have continued from the last point in the PRNG and the f 7 C 0 would be wrong
If that's true, then this should be the correct assignment...

>>> random.seed(3)
>>> for i in range(4): print random.randint(1, 162)

>>> for i in range(4): print random.randint(1, 162)

As far as I know, the postal strikes are still going on in Canada, so it could be months before the money arrives.

No they're not.
-A Canadian
Ah, good to know. Are they through the backlog?
2630  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin.org page -> someone with rights please fix on: July 20, 2011, 05:14:20 AM
and an unannounced google link without even a mod sticky or something is even dumber.
Huh? The whole point is that we're no longer affiliated with Bitcoin.org. Why would they have us post a sticky?

I also really apologize that I didn't Google his email right away. I did not thoroughly examine him, and that caused this thread to go the wrong way. I will not make that mistake again.

Looks like he has a gambling problem, too. Now I feel stupid for not Googling this earlier, sorry guys.
2634  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Which inbound ports do I need to open for Bitcoin? on: July 19, 2011, 11:44:56 PM
However I've also saw that Bitcoin connects to the IRC channel through 6667, is it necessary that I open port 6667 inbound?
No, that is an outbound connection only.
2635  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Sending Bitcoins to Mt. Gox (Missing Transaction?) on: July 19, 2011, 11:40:10 PM
Transactions are re-broacast about every 30 minutes, so try waiting a bit to see if this fixes itself.

Otherwise, could you start bitcoin with the -debug command line option and double-click the transaction? Post the output here.

I acted irrationally.
*sigh* Typical Atlas...

Story of your life.

I'm pretty sure we were all irrational at 17. That said, irrational moves come with consequences and that's always a good lesson.
Agreed. I'm glad that Atlas is recognizing that he's acting irrationally, as that's the first step to fixing the problem.

You read all the threads? Hell, I can't even read a fraction of them!
