Satoshi was truly a genius. It seems like every day we find something else that is fixed just by the way it was designed. For example, recently it was discussed that eventually blocks will be created more predictably closer to every 10 minutes just because we will eventually be completely dependent on transactions fees. It's literally a problem that solves itself.
2682  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's dependancy on physical currency on: July 13, 2011, 07:08:48 PM
I'm not sure how "Get Wal Mart to accept Bitcoin" is a solution, and the most recent reply from Petabytecoin is circular logic. I'm genuinely curious, if we want bitcoin to be widely accepted, what must happen other than underpants gnome logic?

I would love to see bitcoin advance, I believe in it and think there is great potential, but at the same time I don't see enough realistic discussion compared to pie-in-the-sky stuff. I'm wondering if there's been some big general consensus I'm missing.
What needs to happen is more people need to ask their distributors if they can pay them in Bitcoin. I believe that the MemoryDealers' guy did this (I might be wrong) and it started working after a few times when they finally realized how much accepting Bitcoins is cheaper than an international wire. On a local level, ask the person you pay rent to (if you rent) if you can pay in Bitcoins. It worked for Bruce Wagner.

He HAD the chance to make it right, and publicly stated he refused to pay. Right in this thread! That's why he got the scammer tag.

You say it like if I had paid at any point, it would be taken away.
Up until you said that you REFUSED to pay, you would not have been marked as a scammer. Given your otherwise great reputation, I was willing to give you extra time to come up with a payment plan before sending this off to our administrator.

We both know no one is paying attention to this until the labeled 'scammer' says something. If I hadn't mentioned ANYTHING and just let this retard bark to himself, I would have been fine.
Absolutely not. I was following the thread. I was first going to require that the OP PM you about the thread. Then, after a few days, I would PM you myself. If there was still no follow-up from you and you had logged in since I PM'd you, only then would we have marked you as a scammer.

I highly suggest reading this:

There's a good chance that you'll have to wait until next week for a resolution. Don't open a new ticket. If your current one is marked as "Solved", reply to it to reopen it.
2685  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wallet.Dat Recovery... Recover Your Own Lost Bitcoins! on: July 13, 2011, 08:04:57 AM
Casascius, may I suggest considering to offer this as a service?

You already have the skill and knowledge to do a search for the wallet data, and are relatively trusted, so others might prefer to send their hard-drives to you in the event of an accidental deletion of a wallet than do it themselves.
This is now pretty much automated:

2686  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is it possible to have two transaction IDs that are exactly the same? on: July 13, 2011, 07:52:51 AM
It is possible (though very rare) for the exact same transaction to appear twice in the block chain, however.

Can you please explain under what circumstances this could happen? I couldn't find anything.
See blocks 91812 and 91842 for one example.

What are you sending gribble?
2688  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin time on: July 13, 2011, 07:21:31 AM
Make sure that the YEAR is also set correctly.
2689  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions on: July 13, 2011, 07:02:56 AM
Yeah, took me awhile to notice that the first time I split something from a sticky. I try to remember to unsticky the post, but sometimes I forget about it until I notice it a few minutes later.  Undecided
2690  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: donations on: July 13, 2011, 06:54:55 AM
What is the deal with donation addresses on forum posts?

I have been participating in forums since FidoNet and I do not recall seeing many, if any, addresses for donations at the bottom of discussions.

My post is awesome. Please send a check to PO Box 456, Bakersfield CA 94523
If you love the five sentences I've typed above please send a PayPal donation: yolanda@yahoo.com
Why? Because it's simple, fun, and easy! This is in great contrast to other payment methods. Besides, you never know when someone might want to send you a random donation. It's not like we're asking you to donate.
2691  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions on: July 13, 2011, 06:49:26 AM
Although it does tend to make sense to establish some level of restrictions to prohibit abuse I belive that the appropriate measure should be inacted. Perhaps I am incorrect but I get the impression that required posts to groom a new user for more privilages are not nessesarly reviewed for additive content. If this is turely the case then how does this deter someone from hitting the quota through random giberish?
In theory, someone who posts random gibberish would be caught before leaving the Newbie forum. Unfortunately, in practice, this doesn't work. It mainly doesn't work because everyone is too afraid to click the "Report to moderator" button. I'm not sure what we can do to fix that.

I would think that content would need to be reviewd to ensure the validity of the new user if this method is to be in place. However, the other suggestion of opening an option to placing BTC down would ensure the person has something they really want other to read. This would support the form operator and reduce overhead of validating users that choose this path.

It's a great idea (I know that other people have brought it up), but I'm not too sure if we could do it without becoming corrupt. Our moderation team is already one of the best on the web, in my opinion. I'd hate to change that.
2692  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I HAVE FOUND IT....SILK ROAD on: July 13, 2011, 06:09:13 AM
Is there a way to report posts here?

Yeah the Report to Moderator link on the far right side of the post. I don't know if the post warrants something like that though.
Yeah, the topic was too obvious. Speaking of which, that link is really underutilized. Please consider actually using it.
2693  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: [Scam Alert] Bitmole scammed services on: July 12, 2011, 07:08:18 PM
I hereby retract my original offer, regardless of my original intentions to work through a current issue to make payment. Have fun with your expensive thread.
Sorry, it doesn't work that way. Good luck getting people to play your game now.
2694  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin version 0.3.24 released on: July 12, 2011, 07:03:30 AM
I normally send a few payments at once, as I'm paying out a bunch of members from our site Smiley
You should really look into using sendmany, then.
2695  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I want to buy bitcoins anonymously on: July 12, 2011, 03:01:07 AM
Another idea is to buy a MoneyPak card, which is anonymous AND irreversible. However, only a few people will likely take them, since you aren't allowed to cash out the money to a bank.
2696  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: firewall issue, or broken web site? on: July 12, 2011, 02:43:57 AM
This website seems dodgy... Why would it have to connect to your bitcoin client at all? Transfers of bitcoins aren't done 'directly' like that...
I think it's to prevent someone from using a proxy to get around the limit placed on each IP address.
2697  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: [Scam Alert] Bitmole scammed services on: July 12, 2011, 12:02:48 AM
Have you PM'd him about this thread? It'd be great to hear the other side before we mark the account as a scammer over 1 BTC.
2698  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Whitelist Requests (Want out of here?) on: July 11, 2011, 10:59:25 PM
Oh, so 5 posts, not 50... that's good news.

Thank you

I hope this post is Sticky.  I think it is.
So THAT'S where people got the idea that it was 50 posts... I've now edited that sticky to reflect the changes we've made since then.
2699  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Transaction verification, computationally expensive? on: July 11, 2011, 10:50:03 PM
Whenever an output is spent, it is entirely spent. The remaining amount is returned to you at a new address in that transaction. Once a spent transaction is buried under enough blocks, it can be safely deleted, should your client choose to delete it.
2700  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [Scam Alert] Global Standard Bank - the first Bitcoin bank? on: July 11, 2011, 10:26:22 PM
There is a photo showing a ground floor location at http://www.globalstandardbank.com/Global_Standard/What_is_Bitcoin.html , same logo but it says "First Global" instead.  Appears kinda photoshopped IMO.
Some quick analysis agrees:
