2581  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MtGox: The ultimate bitcoin mixer/laundry? on: August 06, 2011, 02:33:44 AM
It used to be that MyBitcoin was the best way to launder your coins, since if they weren't replying to user's support requests, they sure as heck wouldn't reply to law enforcement.
2582  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Debug Printing Transactions in Satoshi Client and Pending Tx Monitor for Testnet on: August 06, 2011, 02:30:34 AM
Start the client with the -debug command line option, then double-click the transaction.

As for your second question, I don't believe so, but things change so quickly here that I wouldn't be surprised if I turned out to be wrong.
2583  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MyBitcoin Back Up! (with a press release) on: August 05, 2011, 04:29:28 AM
To prevent a massive amount of new threads about this, I'm sticking this.
2584  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Double-spending technical question on: August 05, 2011, 03:17:58 AM
The client will currently just show it to be forever unconfirmed. That is one reason why we highly discourage using the same wallet on more than one computer at once.

2586  Other / Meta / Re: Insulting another member = BAN ? Good rule, no? on: August 04, 2011, 02:24:35 AM
No, I prefer the current policy of not banning someone over a single post (unless they are a newbie), only if the problem becomes a pattern.

If not one post, then how many occurrences?  Things like this are easily tracked with post history.  I can probably sit for five minutes and think of one or two people, that I enjoy a good portion of their posts, could easily and happily see gone because of retarded insults.
Well, technically, insults are considered trolling, and trolling (on more than a few occasions) is a bannable offense.

If there's someone you'd like to be reviewed for banning, Theymos has the only and final call on that. PM him. Us mods have no ban power, and ban requests can come from anybody.
2587  Other / Meta / Re: Forum moved to bitcointalk.org on: August 04, 2011, 01:34:12 AM
Not to mention the administration, plugin and moderation features on modern software would make this forum so much more.  The For Sale section wouldn't be a mess like it is now.  The reputation system would actually function and be useful just to mention two things out of the hundreds.
Tell me about it...

Did you guys know that we have no moderation queue? Every time you click the Report to moderator (Don't stop! Too few people use it already!), an email is blast out to every moderator and it's impossible for us to know if another moderator has already dealt with the post in question, unless the action that was taken was to delete or move the post.

2589  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin IS anonymous on: August 04, 2011, 01:05:41 AM
Problem #1: How the hell am I supposed to know what addresses were Mybitcoin receiving addresses to begin with?  I can start a thread, but only a tiny fraction of people are going to see it or post their receiving addresses in there.
Quite easily. Using the blockchain, you can narrow down which transactions were from an ewallet by looking for transactions with almost no change. From there, some additional analysis can tell you with near certainty which addresses belonged to Mybitcoin.
2590  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: For all of you supporting Matthew, you know he's bitmole right? on: August 04, 2011, 12:59:18 AM
For all of you supporting Matthew, you know he's bitmole right?
Yes. He approached me with this idea when he realized that the community really lacked a reputation system focused on Businesses instead of individuals. He seems to have realized his earlier mistake and learned from it. That said, I'm not entirely sure that I'd trust him with much money...
2591  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DO NOT SELL TO BOTS OR BUY FROM BOTS on: August 04, 2011, 12:24:26 AM
HAH.

told you.

(btw whatever happened to the rest of this thread, I will keep to myself. Wink be nice. )
It went way off-topic, and thus was deleted in accordance of forum policy.

People, we need you to report these things BEFORE they start stretching on for pages. The person who said that they reported a post was lying.

Anyway, back to the topic, folks!
2592  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The definitive answer to how much bandwidth does bitcoin use. on: August 03, 2011, 08:09:36 PM
It could be estimated from this, that approximately 50 Megs per day would be used by a standard client with 8 connections.
Unfortunately, it cannot. You need to remember that people with only outgoing connections are very unlikely to announce blocks or transactions that the nodes that are connected to it (which are well-connected since they accept incoming connections) haven't already seen. The inverse is also true: well-connected nodes are extremely likely to have to broadcast new transactions/blocks to a large portion of the nodes connected to it.

As a result, in order to get bandwidth numbers for a node that doesn't listen, you will need to do this test again with a node that doesn't accept incoming connections.
2593  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You are eligible for a free Yubikey! on: August 03, 2011, 07:52:17 PM
Any one else get this from MTGOX?
Thank you for your support and for using MtGox.

We appreciate your presence and would like today to give you
a free Yubikey. Considering recent problems with hacked accounts,
hacked computers and more, we see the Yubikey as a good step
toward better security.

You can read more on the Yubikey from the Yubico website:
http://www.yubico.com/ - note that the yubikey we sell is only
usable on MtGox.

To receive your free yubikey, you just need to login on mtgox.com,
click "Order a Yubikey" in the menu, choose if you want either a
yubikey with our logo or not, and on the next page enter the
following code:

And the "following code" is ?
It might help if you read the rest of the email...

Quote
(note: this code will expire end of december.)

Once done, you can fill your address, and confirm your order on
the following page. Please remember that the code can be used only
once (after confirming your address, the code will not be usable
anymore).

You can also give this code to someone else and let them get a
free Yubikey.

Thank you again for your continued support.

From all the MtGox team

2594  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You are eligible for a free Yubikey! on: August 03, 2011, 08:07:56 AM
Yep I got one. This is most likely going to get moved by the way.
How right you are.  Wink

On an on-topic note, I got one too...
2595  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Diablo III sale of items on: August 02, 2011, 05:46:47 PM
Does anyone know anyone at blizzard to lobby?  Smiley
Yes, both directly and indirectly (I'm a personal friend of Sixen over on Diablofans). Now that there are sites like bit-pay and btcinch, it might be time to bring this to Blizzard's attention.

I'll have to read more about this before I send anything, though. (I'm on vacation and don't have much time right now)
2596  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why not 10 coins per block and a block every 2 minutes? on: August 02, 2011, 05:03:00 PM
This is the real bji, right?

Yes, it's me, I have no idea what the forum software did because someone else's entire post is attributed to me!  You can tell that I didn't write it because it's pointing out flaws in some of my own logic and not written from my perspective on the matter.  Weird.
Sorry, I think someone hit edit instead of quote. We're working to figure out who.
2597  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Changelog for 0.3.22 on: August 02, 2011, 08:01:11 AM
Also on-topic from the changelog wiki:

Quote
No pages link to Changelog.

this can be frustrating if you're going to the wiki to find something like the changelog and nothing actually links to it.

you pretty much have to search for bitcoin changelog on google to get to that wiki page.

Did you fix it?

i didn't know i was allowed to... sorry... is it a free-for-all like wikipedia?
Pretty much. Just make an account on the wiki and edit away!
2598  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Important Announcement Regarding the Mybitcoin.com Downtime on: August 02, 2011, 07:46:14 AM
Hey guys, no use bashing him. What's done is done and it's not going to bring anything back.
I suggest you use the five stages of grief:  DABDA  (denial, anger, bargain, depression, acceptance) and move on to acceptance because the first four stages are pointless.

Well, that is if you believe the story. Im not saying its false, I dont have any indications that its either true or false.

But all these wallet.dat's being erased magically from all these services without the owners having any kind of local copy... It stings at kilometers of distance. What we should do is locate the keys where their funds where stored and keep an eye on them. If some years after they start to be moved you know what happened. Also, doing this would make anyone thinking on doing the same think twice about pulling something similar.
This worries me. These incidents happened WAY too close to each other. I'm worried that we're dealing with someone who's trying to destroy bitcoin, rather than profit...
2599  Other / Meta / Re: Staff Check on: August 01, 2011, 05:48:37 AM
Everyone's still here. The only difference is that we are no longer "officially" affiliated with the Bitcoin project.
2600  Other / Meta / Re: Well this sucks so far! on: August 01, 2011, 05:40:56 AM
Damn! So it looks like I'll forever be the last mod that was appointed on the official Bitcoin forums...
