NOW things are getting interesting!
2642  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it allowed to advertise your game here while waiting to be Unrestricted? on: July 19, 2011, 10:22:27 PM
Hi all...

Just a basic question: while I wait to be marked as 'promoted from Newbie' is it acceptable to 'advertise' a gambling game in the Newbie forum? Naturally I would like to put it in the the gambling forum, and while this post will actually give me the post count to promote me up, I figure that it's probably a question that a few other newbies have, too...

If so, well I'll pop the information in here anyway. If not, c'est la vie.

Thanks!
Yes, of course! That's what this forum is for!

By the way, once you become a Jr. Member, you can move your own posts where ever you want. So, you can start it here and when you're able to post in the forum beyond, you can just click the "move topic" button on the bottom of the page.
2643  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Regulate maximum mining pool size on: July 19, 2011, 07:46:38 AM
Pools are not like Walmart where they can just throw money and "sell at a loss" until their competition dies out.
A malicious pool could charge negative fees. I'd like to see how a legitimate pool could match that.
2644  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Your child brings this letter home from school... on: July 19, 2011, 05:17:18 AM
What do you do?
Send it to Fox News. They eat that stuff right up.
2645  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it ok to sell information for BTC ? on: July 19, 2011, 03:11:38 AM
Alright,That's great to know.No it isn't a scam and I am willing forfeit my account and mine for the highest bidder for 1 week if it is not legit and/or legal.
Ha! I hate to say it, but you don't have much rep to lose. You might want to accept that the bidder pay you via an escrow. For example, BTCrow.com
2646  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bananington's Lotto(Ticket Prices are 1BTC each) on: July 19, 2011, 03:00:04 AM
I tried this a few weeks ago..but people just dont trust ya..
That can be fixed by posting a bond greater than the expected pot to a trusted member.
2647  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it ok to sell information for BTC ? on: July 19, 2011, 02:52:25 AM
@Sublimnl,Thanks for that information is completely legal and just wondered if it was ethical to do so as a "trade" or if there were restrictions on the forum to do this.
As long as it's not illegal (that includes copyright), it should be fine as long as it's not some big referal/MLM scam. However, whether or not what you post is allowed is still up to the Mod's discretion.
2648  Other / Meta / Re: Who is running bitcoin.org and bitcoin.it? on: July 19, 2011, 01:49:48 AM
Last I heard, sirius owns bitcoin.org. As for bitcoin.it, that's run by MagicalTux (Mark Karpeles), who you may know better as the current owner of MtGox.
2649  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: transactions in limbo on: July 18, 2011, 08:14:56 PM
In addition to the above...
thanks! could you be more specific? who re-broadcasts the transactions every 30 minutes - my specific client? or everybody on the network aware of my transaction?
If you happen to connect to a client that isn't aware of your transaction (or rejected it in the past), and they accept it, they will broadcast the transaction to anyone they are connected to when you rebroadcast the transaction.

does a miner queue up all the unconfirmed transactions known to him when considering who will enter his next block according to their age?
Pretty much. However, age is just one factor taken into account.

if not, isn't it possible for my transaction to starve forever?
Yes, that's possible. That's why the client has built-in checks to make sure that you pay enough fees so that this won't happen (at least, currently; all bets are off once most mining pools start modifying their clients).
2650  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where did my BTC go? on: July 18, 2011, 07:58:59 PM
If your hard drive was big enough, there's a small chance that the bitcoins can still be recovered. Stop using that hard drive immediately, and try this:

2653  Economy / Goods / Re: (possible) SCAM ALERT: user Leon on: July 17, 2011, 08:46:26 AM
just ship one damn card that he paid for with btc. else you're gonna get marked as a scammer.

I gave him my terms and threats just as he did to me constantly, I'm not going to be pushed around by him any longer and let him damage my rep.

Its already clear he was the one trying to scam me for two cards.
basically your terms are for me to take down this thread i started, otherwise you won't send the cards you never even had? why take it down? so you can scam others that don't know yet? my terms are SIMPLE:

1) just provide proof that you actually have the cards by your newegg invoice, or a picture of the cards with your name on a piece of paper. THAT'S IT. is that so hard just to ask? you haven't been able to provide this simple invoice screenshot, while you were still able to send me screenshots of you withdrawing my BTC. what's up with that?

2) if you can't provide proof, then simply refund me what i paid. THAT'S IT. simple terms, yet you were not able to do in our PMs. i even offered to let you keep $30 of the refund for troubles.
Leon is under no obligation to do either of these things, based on the original agreement. I suggest that you make that requirement clear next time that you buy something.

I'm sure glad someone here has a brain, I was starting to feel alone.
No problem. Just remember that if haploid23 comes back here crying that the fee is unreasonable, that your original agreement still stands until you both agree on something else. Don't refund anything until haploid23 agrees to the fees you impose.

Edit: Bleh, didn't notice that haploid23 already agreed to the $30 fee. So the new refund agreement is now the standing contract.

some how you got 0.016 lol congrats!
0.006 was the transaction fee.

You are right because I got exctly 0.01

On one I didn't have a fee maybe it added on that one..
When I looked closer at it, it looks like the fee was added because the change left over from that input was under .01.
2657  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's with all the addresses I've never seen before in my transactions?!? on: July 17, 2011, 12:04:35 AM
OK, so this is my change. Only problem is, I don't see this address ANYWHERE in my address book.
Is it a "hidden" address? Is the client trying to do something clever without telling me?
Yes, it's a hidden address. However, if you send something to it, you'll notice that you still get the money.
Also, why can't you just get the change back at the sending address? So the client is creating a
hidden account in my wallet to receive the change?
It's to help with anonymity. As an outside observer, it's harder to be sure which address is the change and which address was the one that you were actually sending to.

2660  Other / Meta / Re: allow newbs into the "honest trader list" thread on: July 16, 2011, 04:23:50 AM
You can't honestly tell me that anybody reads that thread. Just tell them to leave feedback for you on bitcoinfeedback.com (I have no relation to this site)

Looks like this could be a good website. What's to stop people from false feedback though?
Information about the transaction needs to be provided.

As for the topic at hand, I did some thinking about it. The reason why Newbies shouldn't be specially allowed to post in that thread is because their feedback can't be trusted. I could make 20 accounts right now and have them rate me in there. In a way, the newbie restrictions make that much harder.
