Here's an interesting tidbit: First block for Block Friday was from pt0x, at that time I was at the Hollywood Bowl watching David Gilmour start into "Money" so I grabbed my phone to take some pics and I see Block Alert! Yeah, 1200rpm fans don't have near enough oomph, or more precisely static pressure, to keep an s5 cool, I tried that too. The best I was able to do with my 5 was a pair of noctua 3000rpm PWM fans in push-pull. Setting the fans @ 80% kept the noise to a minimum (relatively speaking) and the boards at <= 60C.

Not sure, but I'll be experimenting with the S7 and some fans this weekend so if there's any improvement I'll post it. I am currently running UC'd at 625 and set the stock fans at 30% so it's at least bearable sitting in the guest room for now... Not by a long shot, but it is much less noticable, and is both ears and wife approved! |
