To mine through the wallet you have to activate mining and add nodes, here is a copy of my post on the other thread:

I use the windows wallet, I added nodes, it took sometime but it synched.
Here is how I launch it (activating mining and adding different nodes I found here and there on the fly):
If you don't want to mine then remove -gen.
You can also use Help -> Debug window -> Console (from the wallet) to activate mining by typing and you can add nodes by typing When I launch it with the generate option it uses up almost all my cpu (which is normal because it is mining), however I have no logs so I don't really know what it is doing. I never kept it overnight or for a long period to see if it mines something ... (ie I have no proof that the wallet miner works).

I see your point concerning mining and I do agree with you when you say that a wallet should not be used for mining. I was just stating that since the BellaCoin wallet offers the possibility of mining then it should communicate with the right server, if this involves a simple enhancement why not do it (for now) ...
