is there a way to check Byteball and BTC addresses linking?

Two ways actually Smiley. You can ask the transtion bot, it will tell you your linked BTC and BB addresses and their balances, but it won't tell you which BTC is linked to which BB. However at transition.byteball.org you can find that info by searching for a BTC or a BB address.

1. how can i encrypt (make password protection) my single wallet on a single PC?

Go to device settings > request password.

2. what is the backup/restore wallet procedure?

To back up your wallet, you have to back up your data folder. Its location depends on your operating system: https://github.com/byteball/byteball#byteball-backups-and-recovery.

You can also back up your seed, available in device settings > backup. For the time being, it doesn't directly serve a purpose, however in the future, an option will be available to restore from seed.

To restore, just copy back the backed up folder in its location.

For the record, if you are updating to a newer version, there's no need to restore.

The conflicts appear that people confuse Gbyte and BTC as their account.

What do you mean?

Your answer has made it clear to me though that I need take no further action, as nothing has been moved on the BTC side

Even if nothing moved on the BTC side, make sure you still control the byteball address you linked your BTC address to, because bytes (and blackbytes) will be sent there.

(other than I also bought some Gbyte on top of the give away from a different BTC slush fund Account).

The BTC address you use to buy from doesn't matter. Transfer the GB you bought to the byteball address that is linked (so that you get the blackbytes on top of the bytes).

Thank you

You are welcome.

Noob question:

Glancing through the thread I've seen this topic brought up many times, but often with conflicting answers:

I was in the first 10% giveaway and all went smoothly.  If I have coin in that same bitcoin address at the next helicopter drop to I get to take part in that too, or is it one and done?

Where are the conflicting answers Smiley?

If you have BTC on the address you linked for the first round, you will be part of the second round (and all the following rounds, provided the rules don't change). To make sure your BTC address is linked to your byteball address, check transition.byteball.org and/or ask the bot, it will tell you your linked addresses and their balances.
705  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 28, 2017, 11:29:54 AM
Except you can't sign a message with JAXX and when you send the micro tx,  it'll change your address rendering the link useless. Use Electrum to sign, easiest method unless you can still sign messages in mycelium.

The link wouldn't be useless because you can send your BTC back to your linked address. Actually, that is the general case when you do a micropayment, the remaining BTC is sent to a change address and you should send them back to your linked address.

testnet faucet is available ?
I want to try it.

All the tesnet info can be found here https://byteball.org/testnet.html. Download the tesnet wallet, click on click this link, your device will be paired with the testnet faucet, insert your address and it will give you some test bytes to play with.
707  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 28, 2017, 08:13:00 AM
where can i see the size of my transaction in bytes? I did not find it in the wallet

This info is not available. You can only trust the fees to be accurate and to match the actual size of the transaction.

I never have needed to sign a message but I think it is a must.
I currently use coins.ph and thdy dont have this feature yet.
When time comes that I will need to sign, I have byteball as my first option.

Signing a message is not the only way to participate in the distribution, you can also send a micropayment (from a non-exchange address).
708  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 27, 2017, 07:35:46 PM
Thanks I just misread "Actually, for the second round 1 BTC is equivalent to 625 MB because 1 BTC gives 62.5 MB, the same as 625 MB would give."

Makes sense to me now.

what? 625 = 62.5 how did that make sense ?

Where do you see 625 = 62.5 Smiley?

In the second round:

1 byte will grant 0.1 byte => 625 MB will grant 62.5 MB.
1 BTC will grant 62.5 MB.

=> 1 BTC and 625 MB grant the same amount, which is 62.5 MB => 1 BTC has the same weight as 625 MB.
709  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 27, 2017, 05:44:59 PM
There is a file byteball.sqlite in the appdata\local\byteball which is 315MB currently, that must be the DAG, do I need to back that up too or only the user data (about 35MB) ?

byteball.sqlite contains data about your wallets, addresses, transactions, paired devices and other stuff, check it out if you can and see what's there Wink. This file should definitely be backed up.

In the first round I received about 1.3Gbyte for each 1BTC linked.

In the second round I should expect 62.5MB for each 1BTC linked, which is about x20 times lower..

right?

Yes, that's right.

"The 3rd and subsequent rounds (yet to be announced) will follow similar rules, but the relative weight of bytes vs. BTC in the 3rd and further rounds will change and will gradually increase to 1 BTC=62.5 MB. "

You stated this in the original post.
But isn't the second round already 1BTC=62.5MB , so how can it increase to that in further rounds ?

Actually, for the second round 1 BTC is equivalent to 625 MB because 1 BTC gives 62.5 MB, the same as 625 MB would give. In the subsequent rounds, bytes weight will increase (BTC weight will decrease) until 1 BTC grants the same as 62.5 MB. I agree the sentence in the opening post is a bit ambiguous though.

I want to backup but don't know where exactly is the wallet file, anyone knows?

Back up your seed (device settings > backup) and your data directory, its location depends on you operating system, check this link out for the exact location: https://github.com/byteball/byteball#byteball-backups-and-recovery.
712  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [GBYTE] Byteball Speculation on: January 27, 2017, 01:19:21 PM
Clear as mud, kai!

But seriously, I think I've figured the market cap estimation problem (or question, as it's not a problematic issue I think). Also, I may have misunderstood the 10 per cent gain on bytes - which I now understand only to be only awarded during distribution. I'd mistakenly thought it possible to repeatedly gain this "bonus" simply by bloating output size of transactions.

As clear as distilled water then Smiley given the fact that now you seem to understand everything clearly Smiley. I also share your point about estimating the market cap not being problematic, let's just enjoy the show for the time being Smiley.

If I send a byteball on the exchange to a wallet, will I be charged 1TB if I send 1TB? Is it the same when I send the byteball on the wallet to the exchange?

Nope you won't be charged 1TB for sending 1TB, the fees equal the size of the transaction on the network not the sent amount. You always pay fees whenever you do a transaction.
714  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 27, 2017, 12:54:17 PM
Why receive adress is diffrent between my insert adress?

The wallet has many addresses, both are okay and you have control over both and over any address your wallet used in the past.

Which adress should i pay BTC?

If you mean where to send the micropayment to link a BTC address, then the transition bot tells you everything. To link, you have to chat with it, go to byteball.org and click on transition bot, it will get paired with your device, the bot will give you instructions to link your address.

If you are talking about something else, can you please clarify?

Will byteball on the Cryptox  automatically participate in the round?
or
should I make a wallet?

you should install the wallet and move your Bytes.
otherwise cryptox will get the Bytes you're waiting for. maybe they distribute them to the users, maybe not.
you don't have your one wallet on an Exchange.

Maybe you should ask grzem, the admin of cryptox, he is also available on Slack, and don't forget about the blackbytes Wink. I would say that there's a high chance you'll receive the bytes and a higher chance you won't receive the blackbytes ... Moving bytes to your own wallet on a linked address remains the best solution.
716  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 27, 2017, 06:35:41 AM
Right, there are supposed to be twelve well known users acting as witnesses, but there is a default list of witnesses that I'm presuming no one bothers to change. If they're so well known, then why doesn't anyone know who they are?

It doesn't seem like anyone knows who these twelve well-known, non-anonymous people are, so I would tend to assume at the moment they are all just servers set up by tonych and set as the defaults.

Yes you are right, the default witnesses are Tony's. If someone runs a witness, they can change one of the default list witnesses using their own witness because a one witness difference is allowed. If they want their witness to be used by other users, then they'll have to gain some trust, probably by making themselves public and doing some campaigning.

Hello.

One technical question.

If i want to install the latest live version 1.1.1 from source

do i need to pull it down from here (master branch)

https://github.com/byteball/byteball/tree/master

or here (livenet):

https://github.com/byteball/byteball/tree/livenet

I ask because i see is written "0.7.1 livenet"
and whenever I have installed from the master before it installed the test version.

Thanks.

The branch livenet has last been updated 2 months ago which is too old for a 1.1.1, master however has been updated 6 days ago, so I would suggest pulling from master (or wait for livenet to get updated).

Poloniex wants increasing amounts of ID as you increase the amount you withdraw. You can get round that by using alcurEX to make your trades on poloniex, then withdrawing through alcurEX.

That is actually very convenient, I assume they might take some kind of fee for that ... Anyway it's worth looking into.

I WTB up to 500 GB for 5 btc. Also buying up to 1000 GBB for 1 btc.

me too ^^. On a more serious note, I don't think there's anyone who would be willing to sell at these prices for the time being ... At worst they can go dump 500 GB on cryptox and they will get way more than that.
719  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: January 26, 2017, 03:20:00 PM
alcurEX exchange says it's considering adding byteball, but needs to know if there is example nodejs api or other tools it can use to integrate it into its exchange's code.

I just checked out their website: https://alcurex.com. The order books (for a couple of currencies I checked) are the exact same as on Poloniex. Does it act like a proxy to Poloniex or something?

Edit: Never mind, I just read their info/help page:

Quote
ALCUREX is a multi-exchange trading platform that enables seamless trading on multiple different exchanges from a single account and website.
720  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][KMD][dPoW] Komodo ICO - Zcash Zero Knowledge Privacy Secured by Bitcoin on: January 25, 2017, 05:00:36 PM
I was wondering about the BTCD to KMD swap rate. I transferred some BTCD to the ICO website, the swap rate (My KMD Balance/My BTCD Swapped total) is less than 50.42xxxx (it is 50.37xxxx). Can anyone shed some light on that please? Thank you.

The exchange rate keeps dropping every day, and after the year it will be 5% lower than it was on the first day. BTCD supply grows 5% a year I guess.

Thx for the reply. I thought the dropping was going to start after the launch of KMD. I think I was mistaken then, the rate seems to have started droping since the swap was enabled. Does this mean the swap year has already began (when the swap was enabled) ?
