241  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Closing in on 60k, Again! on: February 29, 2024, 09:00:53 AM
Bitcoin is playing in a quite different way than in previous history. We have always seen Bitcoin reset before a mega pump. But this time we are witnessing the rapid growth of Bitcoin. Today we experienced a yearly ATH hit of $64K and a dump again as well. I have seen Coinbase users encounter a bug and see zero balance on their account. That's why people became panicky and dumped from $64K to $60K again. However, Bitcoin is still pretty strong due to ETFs and new investments.
Most likely, after this rapid growth, a price correction might follow. So there is still nothing new with how bitcoin moves. It might take differently but it will still go back to its basic. The important thing here is we don’t panic after a price decline. Old investors might not see any problem but with new investors, this will really put their faith for bitcoin into test, but end up selling earlier so they can avoid too much losses. Volatility is bitcoin’s nature, so expect that we will witness price fluctuations any moment from now.
This is the most likely scenario, while I am happy with the profits I can see on my wallet everyday, at the same time this kind of growth cannot be maintained, the upwards movement is too steep and a downward movement must follow it, but while we have endured movements like those before, I am sure there are many retail investors buying bitcoin for the first time that are about to get burned hard once that happens, and I do not know if they have what it is necessary to keep holding their coins as they will be going through an immense pressure to sell their coins and cut their losses.

Yup I agree also about corrections, there will be corrections, look at yesterdays flash crash from €64k to
€58k in less than an hour which was more than likely a move to liquidate the long trading positions.

Its a dangerous time for new investors of first time buyers, when the market rises or falls rapidly there
will be FUD and FOMO and when the market moves the other way there could be more FUD and FOMO.

How high do you think it can go?

Well $60k is done we are looking at the market closing in on the ATH. Interestingly we have never hit the
previous ATH before the halving! after the halving is a different matter, there are calls for $100k and beyond
but there are many threads about that and "how high it will go" already
242  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin prospects on: February 29, 2024, 08:39:28 AM
What are the limits of Bitcoin’s rise...

Short term v Long term
Short term the limits are controlled by Bitcoins 4 year cycle. Bitcoin doesnt constantly rise, there are
ebb's and flow's, rise's and fall's, Bull and Bear markets within the cycle.

and is it a strong and consistent rise...

It depends on whether you zoom in or zoom out
Zoom in and you will see it is obviously not a strong and constant rise but zoom out to look at the
Bitcoin market from 2009 you will see Bitcoins strong and constant rise.

and what are the most prominent implications of this rise and its most prominent results?

I cant think of any IMPLICATIONS to Bitcoins rise other than people getting financially hurt from
FOMO and FUD when reacting to the markets.

all in all the OP's questions and any answers are very subjective.
243  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union / League / Super / Sixes Sevens Pro14 / Cups & Tours / Olympics on: February 28, 2024, 10:27:29 PM
I've been hearing talk surrounding the super mouthguards that various female players have been trailing (the articles were concerning the World Rugby governing body being sued by former players over head injuries which we were discussing a couple of weeks ago.

Hopefully I can catch some games this weekend.

Oh yea, head injuries are a massive topic and one world rugby should be worried about.
Those gum shields are very interesting but there is very little talk of it lets say throughout
the six nations so far.

No six nations this coming weekend.

URC
Round 11 of 18 is on this weekend, this race should be on now to secure a spot on
the top 8 to go to the quarter finals particularly my home team Connacht.

So Connacht at home play Scarlets, I'm surprised to see them massive favourites at 1.05.

A really interesting match is Benetton at home v Glasgow Warriors but they are not favourites,
priced at 2.21.

244  Economy / Speculation / Re: Something is seriously wrong with bitcoin markets. No liquidity? Should we sell? on: February 28, 2024, 07:41:19 PM
I'm curious where's the proof that Coinbase has no liquidity? check this sites, it's clear there are more people want to sell their coins instead of hold it https://bitcoinity.org/markets/coinbase/USD

Honestly $60K is still nothing because most people are predicting Bitcoin price should able to double or triple from the last ATH, as people said "history repeats by itself".

But do you want to sell or hold your coins? it's all up to your decision, the only rule is there are no rules.

Yea I'm wondering too if there would be a liquidity issue in this market, there are always
buyers and sellers and obviously in this bull market there are less sellers and more buyers

The top exchanges are not going to get caught out with a liquidity problem.

I also like the way the OP in the thread title assumes we are on the same page and
asks "should WE sell?" ATM and for the short to medium term I am HODL'ing.

Everyone is free to do whatever they want!
245  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: February 28, 2024, 06:51:34 PM
After Thompson won his first title in Mexico (Los Cabos), he has started his next tournament in Mexico in Acapulco. However, he was knocked out in the first round against Kovacevic. Zverev was also knocked out in the first round there. While he was still on the way to the final in Los Cabos after he was knocked out from Thompson there, it seems he has now come back down to earth. 2 steps forwards, one step back. That seems to be the case with him.
After winning a tournament, preparation and motivation doesn't remain the same for the next week of tournament (unless its a Grand Slam). Players often bow out of tournaments early after winning a tournament. Sometimes it's strategic and the other times, they play the tournament just because they have booked their flights and tickets long time ago and they get paid to play even the first round(which would at least cover for the flight and hotel charges). So, it's better that the player plays the next tournament than withdraw. The strategic part is that not risking injury from the strain of playing high quality tennis for a longer period of time, it is easier to bow out early and not cause excess physical strain. All these are just my speculations though it might not be true for every player, if true at all.

Yes its a bit of a shock and not good for anyone betting on him based on his win in
the previous tournament.

It must be difficult for some players to transition from winning a tournament one week
to starting off a new tournament a few days later, its a mental thing.

Over at Dubai Murray as  I would have expected got beaten by the in form Humbert.

Bublik who I'm following also won today in 2 sets against Griekspoor. I never thought I
would be following Bublik!
He plays Lehecka next which is a notch up I think, the Czech
is favourite! Bublik @ 2.0 is worth a bet IMO.
246  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When will Michael Saylor and MicroStrategy sell BTC? on: February 27, 2024, 10:05:17 PM

I would like to know your opinion on this issue:
  • What are your thoughts on the possibility of Michael Saylor and MicroStrategy selling Bitcoin during the current bull cycle's distribution phase?

It never enters my mind until these threads come up. Yea there is a probability of a sell off
at some stage. It would go against everything he preaches and there is a chance that the
majority of his co investors are on the same page as him so they have a loooooong outlook.

  • If such a sale were to occur, how do you anticipate it affecting the price of Bitcoin and the broader cryptocurrency market?

It depends on the amount of Bitcoin being sold, there would be an affect but in the
end Bitcoin is bigger than any one entity.

  • Do you consider the actions of individual entities, such as MicroStrategy, when making investment decisions?

No because as above Bitcoin is greater than any one entity and I'm not a trader
so events whatever they are wont affect me in the long term [/list]
247  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: February 27, 2024, 08:17:54 PM
very disappointing match by Italian Tennis player L. Musetti.
He is slightly losing position on ATP rank and it's not the first time he has a dismal performance.
For the third time in a row he has lost in the first match of a tournament!

Meanwhile it seems in a very good shape another Italian, Mr. Arnaldi, he achieved a nice win against T. Fritz that was not the easiest player to defeat.

Its a pity because Musetti showed some good performances earlier last year, a couple
of quarter and semi finals.

Sticking with the Italians, Sonego has progressed to the round of 16 but he faces
medvedev next who beat Shevchenko today in 2 sets.

Other wins by Bublik who plays Griekspoor tomorrow,
Mensik beat Coric to day to play Davidovic Fokina Tomorrow.

Rugby 7's - Vancouver

Argentina have put together 3 Gold medals in a row by winning the final in Canada and beating New Zealand.

Ireland to my surprise are sitting in second spot but the same points as Fiji.

For me the team of the weekend was France, they picked up their 1st medal and sit in 7th spot. They won 5
out of their 6 matches and its the first tournament where Antoine Dupont. He was world player of the year
in Rugby 15's in 2021 and has made the Dream Team at No.9 in 2022 and 2023.
He has taken a break from the 15's game this year to concentrate on 7's and in particular the Olympics.
He has made the Rugby 7's dream team this weekend also!!
I think simply because he is in the team now France will become a team to watch.

Next round in Los Angeles this week end March 1st to 3rd.

Top 3 teams on the womens side are:

Australia
New Zealand
France

Between them they seem to be dominating the medals so far.

249  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: February 26, 2024, 09:35:51 PM
Murray has another unlucky early draw again, he plays Shapovalov in their round of 32.

Bublik plays Machac today also, thats a tricky draw for both, the odds are 2.15 v 1.75,
that could go either way.

Zhang v Rublev - there could possibly be a slight chance of an upset there. but I'm not betting
on that outcome.

I wouldn't say that's unlucky for Murray. Shapovalov has been playing outrageously poorly so far this season. Actually I'm not even sure he won a single match this year, I don't remember it happening.

Bublik v Machac I'd bet on Bublik. And again, only based on his latest performance. He's been solid so far.

Zhang v Rublev. The Russian should be extra hungry after being eliminated in R1 during his previous tournament.

You are right actually, and Murray ended up winning in 3 sets.

A three set win also for Bublik, as I thought it was a close affair in the last set tie break.

And Rublev won in three sets also. I like the way Zhang plays unfortunately he cant
maintain his intensity for 2 sets.

Interestingly tomorrow sees the number 1 seed Medvedev back playing and faces
Shevchenko, I wonder how this will go, Medvedev has been on a mini break and
Shevchenko has been playing great tennis.
250  Economy / Speculation / Re: New All Time High Baby! - $68,742.31 on: February 26, 2024, 07:32:15 PM
Yea the FTX debacle was a market changer, it couldnt have come at a more inopportune
time as regards the Bitcoin market.

This time its different hopefully I know, I know thats probably been said many times before!
its a different market this time, we are starting from a higher point in the market and the ETF
thing is adding some extra positivity to what people in general are feeling.

I think the opposite in terms of reaching $100k, I think it will be easily reached and surpassed
251  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: February 26, 2024, 08:36:16 AM
I too like his play, being an all-rounder is far better than being a specialist in one area,
like some players who kind of rely on a superior service game.

True, but how many, serve specialists, for example, are there on tour right now? Frankly, I can't think of any! There were Karlovic, Isner, Opelka but what about now? The same goes to serve & volley specialists (McEnroy, Pat Rafter) I suspect there are none. Modern tennis is getting more universal, you have to adapt to stay competitive.

Having a great service is key as it can give a great advantage over the opponent. But you are right, nowadays we don’t have real serve specialists like Isner or Roddick. But in the end, while their serve was their biggest weapon they struggled a bit in the other areas and never won any grand slams.

Yes, absolutely - relying on only one aspect of the game will only bring a player so far.

Most of the players that were competing in Doha have transferred over to the Dubai
Tennis Championships.

Ok I'll start getting into the NRL next week!

Six Nations

Todays match between France v Italy started off as ominous for Italy, France scoring
a try in the 7th minute, the game was chaotic really but just before half time France picked
up a Yellow card which was upgraded to a Red.

Italy were much improved with the extra man in the second half and France gave away
way too many penalties. The game ended up in a draw 13 - 13. Italy had a penalty kick woth the
clock in the Red but with about 13 seconds to go on the countdown kick clock the ball fell
off the kicking tee so Garbisi had to do a scramble kick but hot the post - very dramatic end.

I wonder if anyone bet on a draw, that would have had odds of around 20.0
253  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Monastery My Opinion on: February 25, 2024, 04:32:14 PM
Ah I'm sure there would be some gullible people who would get sucked into something
as non-sensible as a Bitcoin Monastery.

Of course anyone is free to set up something which is not illegal but I would hope anyone
considering getting involved would think twice.

I could only imagine the people looking to set something like this would be looking at
relieving others of their money or Bitcoin.

Yes you are right!  I cant think of any players relying so heavily on their superior serve,
and serve and volley seems to be a thing of the past indeed.

In the end Mensik couldnt overcome Khachanov in the final, it was close though.
In the first set tie break there were 28 points, Khachanov winning that 12-14.

I also got to catch the semi final in Los Cabos between Ruud and Tsitsipas, that was
a great match, some fantastic shots by both, Ruud coming through that but losing to Thompson
in the final
255  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union / League / Super / Sixes Sevens Pro14 / Cups & Tours / Olympics on: February 25, 2024, 08:35:01 AM
Argentina are definitely holding their own against some of the other powerhouse teams on the international circuit.

Absolutely, they are unbeaten in their Vancouver matches and will face the USA in their
semi final today. Their odds are 1.19. The other semi final is New Zealand v France.

Australia have had a poor outing and will play later on in a 9th place play off. Ireland will
be playing for a 5th place play off.

Six Nations

Yesterdays matches went as planned as regards the odds, the favourites Ireland and Scotland
won.

Wales losing to Ireland was always on the cards, they look like they are developing a new squad
with a lot of young players, so they are building.

England losing to Scotland wasnt as predictable, ok they were underdogs but they have
the capability of winning without a great performance.

Today is France v Italy - Italy will be looking to put some scores on the board at least but
its really an uphill battle.

256  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who buys Bitcoin at $500k on: February 24, 2024, 05:29:46 PM
if there are people who buy bitcoin at $50k or $60k, it means there will be people who buy bitcoin at $500k, but maybe if bitcoin reaches that number it means we will buy or sell bitcoin in smaller forms, such as satoshis. by trading bitcoin in smaller amounts, bitcoin can be purchased by anyone at any price range.

Not only that - if we disregard all the noise around the ETF's and the upcoming halving
and travel back to when Bitcoin was valued at lets say $500 and ask the question....
Who will buy Bitcoin at $50,000? the arguments I'm sure were or would have been the same.

1. - Its a matter of perspective, the question is about a future price which is far away
in a number of years

2. - realistically is the market going to die a death as soon as its hits $500,000?

So long as there is positivity and demand in the Bitcoin network there will be buyers
and sellers at any price.
257  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: February 24, 2024, 03:13:46 PM

If I'm not mistaken, this Mensik guy has already disappointed #1 seed Rublev in a quarterfinal? He has also eliminated Andy Murray earlier in the same tournament. Not sure if he has a chance against Khachanov though. The in-form Russian has improved a lot this year and is ready for top 10, perhaps even top 5.

Kalinskaya will definitely win in Dubai, if she won't get injured. Paolini has much less fuel left in her tank.
Mensik the Czech teenager got into the draw by using his protected next gen's 1 direct entry into a 1000 event. He chose Qatar as it's the only event that gives out free iPad to all the participants Cheesy. Now, he finds himself into the finals of it against Khachanov. Watched Mansik play against Rublev and his style is more of an all rounder. He will try to get every ball back into play and keep the rally going until the opponent makes an error. Which disturbed Rublev's rhythm to hit flat-out winners while he's not in the best of form. Khachanov who has more spin to his forehand and a consistent backhand relies on point construction, rather than trying to powerhit the opponent into making unforced errors. Should be a good contest but I think Khachanov should be winning this. Good showing from both the players so far though. Should be an entertaining contest.
Regarding Kalinskaya, I wouldn't call it a definite win but she does look better. A lot of people have underestimated Paolini and been surprised by her consistency. Paolini has won a WTA title and been a finalist too. She shouldn't feel the nerves as much as Kalinskaya as this isn't uncharted territory for her.

Yes it was a great result from Mensik to beat Monfils, The Frenchman was having a
good tournament. Mensik faces a bigger challenge IMO today in the final which has
started, his odds are now 3.0, I think he is worth a small bet! Small bet only because
Khachanov is seeded number 2. This is a massive game for the young Czech, a
dream start to his season.

I too like his play, being an all-rounder is far better than being a specialist in one area,
like some players who kind of rely on a superior service game.
258  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Rugby] Union / League / Super / Sixes Sevens Pro14 / Cups & Tours / Olympics on: February 24, 2024, 07:52:16 AM
Rugby 7's

Round 4 in the series started yesterday in Vancouver, Canada. Canadamen themselves have
had a tough draw in their first two games after being drawn against Argentina and Fiji which
they lost. Their 3rd pool game is against Spain.

Irelandmen havent faired well in their first two either, losing to Great Britain and
New Zealand, they play South Africa next who themselves are 1 from 2.

The stand out teams so far are Argentins....AGAIN, France and Great Britain

259  Other / Politics & Society / Re: If there was no government to govern us (humans) on: February 23, 2024, 11:14:59 PM
We are all one species but comprised of different individuals each with similar and
differing agendas and life goals.

As many have pointed out, without rules or some form of governance we all live in a very
chaotic world. There would be grave consequences for us all without laws. It would be a
lawless society, robbery, bullying, exploitation, rape, murder and warfare would be prevalent.
Maybe a utopia would exist in some areas until the bandits and scum found out.

People give out about governments and police but they are there to help us and actually
for the most part make a liveable society, there are things which they get wrong but those
wrongs are a minority.

.
You describe persons not humans. Persons do as told, even if it is illegal, see Nuernberg process.
Any War is only possible with people, because they have rank and leaders. Unter the law all Humans are equal, a equal can not tell another equal what to do
Humans are born with and have intrinsic values, moral judgments, possess reason and free will to govern.

I totally disagree, we are all born human but some of us may or may not, will or
will not succumb to greed, hatred and jealousy for example, some people will
have greater goals, desires and ambitions than others and some will do whatever it takes
to reach them, others would be content with what they have.

I know the OP didnt want history lessons but I will say that even with governments
and laws us humans throughout time have been killing each other anyway, do you
think it would be better without governments and laws?
260  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: February 23, 2024, 06:47:46 PM
Watched Ostapenko vs Kalinskaya today. Gotta watch out for Kalinskaya more often as she looked solid in rallies as well as serve. An upset by beating an ex-Grandslam Champion, who's been having a fairly consistent season. If the draw is favourable, Kalinskaya could reach quarters or semis at least.
Don't tell me that I didn't warn y'all. Kalinskaya beat Iga to reach the finals and will face another surprising Finalist Paolini, who will break into the top 20 in the WTA rankings for the first time in her career. My money is on Kalinskaya to win the finals. She's hitting really well and can move fairly well.

Yes a bit of an unbelievable final line up alright and interesting actually, if you
were to bet on that its very hard to pick a winner although Kalinskaya is favourite at
1.50 and Paolini is 2.60.

Kalinskaya to beat Swiatek would have been a great price I suspect. Iga as the number
1 ranked player and top seed does that regularly in your aments, lose when she really
shouldnt be losing.

Just watching Mensik v Monfils ATM, third set on serve, interesting to see who will
meet Khachanov in the final...
