841  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Let's Stabilize Bitcoin on: September 07, 2023, 06:46:20 PM
In order for Bitcoin to be widely used for payments, it is necessary to stabilize price fluctuations.

When you start fixing the price, that's the moment you destroy everything else!
Trying to control the price of the currency will just ruin everything, turning it into a worse variant of fiat!

Besides, even making it stable against the $ will still not make is stable against shittier currencies like the ruble or the rial, so for like 90% of the globe it will still fluctuate, not by that much but still.

Why do you want it to be stable anyway?

He just said it, in order to make it more attractive to be used as a currency, you know, that thing Satoshi wanted in his whitepaper?
But fewer and fewer are interested in that anymore when the mirage of doing 2x in $ overnight has caught almost everyone.

Interference with trying to control anything to do with Bitcoin sounds like a type of
regulation, and as stompix posts we would lose so much of the attractiveness of Bitcoin.

If you seek widespread payments the Lightning network is there to be utilised.

Anyway I also agree with stompix that Bitcoin has shifted a little from what it was
planned to do in the whitepaper, it can still do all that was intended but it also promises
more too.

There are a lot of people who enjoy and are rewarded from a volatile Bitcoin market.

Many people thought Fritz going to beat the Djokovic in this quater final, but with the unexpected way Djokovic made the history today. If Djokovic made the sets like this in the upcoming semifinal,no doubt he will be the title winner.By this Djokovic had break the record of Roger Federer by 47 Grand Slam semifinal.
Do not count out on Novak Djokovic who has the record of being in the grand slam finals for a record time and no one comes close and the most title wins in history, it is a matter of time how long he can extend these records so that no one could catch that in the future, my prediction is that he will be winning 5 to 8 Grand Slam tournaments before he retires.

~
Alcarez really gave no chance to Zverev eh ? I mean , he really wants to "punish" Djokovic and beat him in the finals but I have a feeling that Djoko will beat Alcaraz again if they meet next round.
My final prediction is Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic and Djokovic winning the cup but it is going to be a really hard battle.

Well he couldnt do it against Alcaraz at Wimbledon this year so it really isnt a
foregone conclusion that Djokovic will win the US Open title.

This is a perfect semi final line up for the tournament, the top 3 seeded players in
the semi's. Shelton has a massive job ahead of him and the Alcaraz v Medvedev
match up promises to be a cracker!

My money is on Djokovic v Alcaraz for the final, no surprises there.
843  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Cool Article Bitcoin.com on: September 07, 2023, 06:24:08 AM
Thats a very interesting article

There isnt any other Bitcoin collectible by brand holding as much Bitcoin as Casascius coins
hold collectively I guess. It might only be less than 0.02% its still a staggering amount to
be loaded onto metal coins all the same.

Quote
of the six S1-COIN-1,000s, each carrying 1,000 BTC, four remain untouched.

Wow those 4 coins are in a very elite club! the one who holds out the longest will command
the most rewarding value.

Well we will see what team NZ are about in this opening game on Friday, it has all the
ingredients to be an absolute cracker of a game!

League Australian NRL

So from the last round last week the Panthers got top spot and I think it was the Roosters
who kept the Rabbitohs out of the top 8 and managed to get in themselves, I could be wrong.

So finals week 1 of 4 this weekend and its 2nd v 3rd Broncos v Storm, I'm going with
the Broncos, a rematch of last weeks fixture and revenge time for the Broncos . . . hopefully

1st v 4th Panthers v Warriors, Its going to be the Panthers

6th v 7th Sharks v Roosters, IDK I'm not betting on that, it will probably be the Sharks

5th v 8th Knights v Raiders, only based on ladder position I will back the Knights.
845  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: September 06, 2023, 06:22:18 AM

And it was an exciting match. It was 5 hard-fought sets. Both played at their limit and although Zverev had more playing time in the previous matches, Sinner had more problems with his body and fitness. For Zverev it is a great success to reach the quarter finals of a Grand Slam tournament again. There he will play against Alcaraz, who has had much less playing time so far and will therefore be more fitter.

Damn, this was a great match. It was going back and forth between these two. And if I am honest I have to definitely say that I kind of did not expect this outcome from this match. I thought that Sinner was going to be the winner of this match. He did try really hard to get the win as well.  But in the end, I have to say Zverev was the one who really performed better in that match.

But the next match is going to be a lot harder. He is going to face Alcaraz in the next match. I don't think he will be able to win that match, to be honest.

Great match indeed, the final scoreboard looks like it was a very even match but looking
at the stats after the match shows Sinners service game wasnt as good as Zverev's,
54% first serve for Sinner, thats not going to win matches at this level.

Alcaraz is clear favourite for the next match 1.21 v 4.4

snip

Frances Tiafoe vs Ben Shelton, an interesting match and very likely to be a long match of up to five sets, Shelton used his fast serve to get a lot of points, but Tiafoe managed to come back after the first set and in the third set he had the opportunity to take it so he would lead 2-1

Well done to Shelton, he beat Tiafoe in 4 sets and books a spot in the Semi Finals against
Djokovic, tough ask for him to progress to the final.

I'm going with my initial pics of Ireland and France but I really think South Africa will
be in the mix too but I dont know who to substitute Ireland or France in order
to include SA. Anyway I will stay with my 2 pics.

@darxiaomi - you can bet on 1 team instead of 2! no presure though anyway its
great that the times work out, they will be evening games here on the Northern Hemisphere
but at times where you guys can watch but not at silly times.

Ah b - a very interesting question, one which doesnt have a one word answer....

France have been building up to this WC and have really improved as a TEAM, they have
fantastic players but their weakness could be playing at home. If things dont go according
to plan their supporters can give them a hard time, so there is massive pressure there.

You are right about NZ, they are not the team they were and dont have the same quality
of players in some positions as they once had.

Personally I'll go with France, they will have to make a big statement with this opening game...

As regards royalty.....South Africa are entitled to that royalty tag too in terms of WC's won.

Welcome to the board b, will you be watching some games?
848  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cambridge University Shatters Bitcoin Energy Myths on: September 05, 2023, 12:06:13 PM
Even including the assumptions I would welcome this report because it counters the
false negatives which have been spread about Bitcoins energy consumption for a few
years.

The name Cambridge University does carry some weight, I wonder who is going to use
this info? I suppose it can be used to trump any point made about the inefficiencies
in the Bitcoin mining industry....

850  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Population decline - The largest challange ahead on: September 05, 2023, 06:23:09 AM
I suppose from an economics point of view a declining lopulation is not ideal, it means
in the future there will be less people to consume what we produce and feed the capitalist
and commercial agenda.

But as regards the health if the planet and natural world - it is a good thing because more
people means more consumption of everything.

I agree that if it continues the vast majority of the population will be affected but
not everyone though.

Yes I agree with Timelord, for this I think its nicer to keep it simple, all wagers go into a "pot"
and the winner(s) take/split it!

I cannot access any of my local TV stations without paying a subscription but I
have learned that the UK channel ITV will be showing all the games, AFAIK I can access
the ITV channel's through my SKY box without subscription, i'll check that tomorrow.

https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/sport/rugby-union/rugby-world-cup-2023-tv/

Timelord and darxiaomi will you be able to watch some games eventhough they will be
early morning times?
852  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: September 04, 2023, 07:35:41 PM
On the WTA Swiatak was beaten yesterday by Ostapenko, to me it looks like a few players
are managing to beat her!
Ostapenko performed well in the third set and Swiatek seemed to have a hard time returning her opponents' balls, she even almost got a bagel if she didn't break Ostapenko at 5-0 points although Ostapenko managed to break Swiatek's game back to close the set 6-1 and win the match for advanced to the quarterfinals to face Coco Gauff, who was still looking impressive since the Cincinnati tournament.

Novak Djokovic is going to play against Gojo in the next match. I think Novak Djokovic should be able to win the match. After all, he’s going to be really confident since he was able to make a great comeback in the last match.
Novak Djokovic won the game in three sets against Gojo and worked really well for the victory, he was well prepared to catch Gojo's serves and he did it well. Djokovic knows that it gets tougher now on his way to break another record.

He will have to put in extra effort in his next game against Taylor Fritz and try to win the game quicker.
As I previously predicted, Novak Djokovic will play more effectively to save his energy because in the following rounds, he will find stronger opponents to put up a tough fight against him.
Fritz has met Djokovic 7 times and it is surprising that Fritz has not won once against Djokovic, and the last meeting was in Cincinnati. Fritz even got a bagel in the first set, and Djokovic won the match quite easily.
Maybe there will be different things happening but seeing how consistent Djokovic is in Grand Slam tournaments then this will still be a match that he will go through well to get to the semifinals.
Only a player who plays consistently and plays with minimal mistakes will be able to beat Djokovic unless this veteran player is not fit.

And realistically thats going to be either Medvedev or Alcaraz who will be
challenging him at some stage, Sinner is seeded 6 but he isnt up to the top
level of the top 3 yet!
This time also we can expect Alcaraz to meet Djokovic. At the end days we used to see top performance matches and surprising results. Fritz haven't won against Djokovic, but his performance in hard court used to be good. Djokovic also mentioned about Fritz stating, he had improved his performance over the years and surely the match will be tougher.

It would be the upset of the tournament for sure if Fritz manages to beat Djokovic.
The odds currently are 5.5 v 1.15! very few are expecting Tritz to win.

Currently Alcaraz is 2 sets up on Arnaldi, I'm not even sure now if the Italian can win
this 3rd set.

Nope - Alcaraz got it done in 3 sets!

Next up is Medvedev v de Minaur, again its a long shot for de Minaur to win this, he
might though take a set off Medvedev - over 36.5 @ 1.76 ?

In the next match, Matteo Arnaldi is going to face Alcaraz. That is definitely going to be a very difficult match for him to win. I definitely do not think that he will actually be able to win that match because Alcaraz is the number one tennis player in the world right now. So even though he was able to beat Cameron Norrie, I believe he is definitely not going to beat Alcaraz.

I watched several of Matteo Arnaldi's matches several times, and I can say that he will be a player who can provide quite strong resistance to Alcaraz, but when checking at the bookies it seems that Carlos Alcaraz will very easily finish this match @ 1.01, but if Arnaldi plays a game of tennis At best it's very possible it will be 4 sets but still for Alcaraz to win
...

Well, at this odd @1.01 is much much more convenient try to get the impossible odd of a win of Arnaldi!
This guy has won against Ruud this year, he is only 20 years old...I don't see any chance for a win so yes Alcaraz to win in 4 sets could be a potential option...

I agree bitbollo, Alcaraz to win in 4 sets, we have already seen Evans take a set from
Alcaraz so I too recon Arnaldi can do the same.

Sinner plays Zverev tomorrow too and is favourite @1.62, this is his toughest challenge
in this tournament IMO. Zverev had a tough 2 tie break sets against Dimitrov but the
following 2 sets were easy 6-1, 6-1 so based on that Sinner will be a stronger opponent
than Dimitrov and will beat Zverev.

On the WTA Swiatak was beaten yesterday by Ostapenko, to me it looks like a few players

855  Other / Off-topic / [IDEA] Karma Generator / Pay it Forward / Generosity Thread on: September 03, 2023, 08:56:30 PM
Z_MBFM's thread about his/her first collectible HERE and the generosity of some
members has sparked an idea which we could all partake in, a kind of "Pay it Forward"
sort of collaboration.

I wonder if something like this has been done here before?

I was thinking that one member starts off the collab by nominating another member
and send them something Bitcoin, Crypto or even FIAT collectible related - large, small,
valuable or not, rare or abundant or even a one off self made specifically for the collab.

The key to it is to not expect anything in return and if it works out further down the
project that you get something back well thats Karma!

I remember doing something like this on a photography forum many moons ago,
It was a postcard collaboration type project like this.

Anyway what do you all think?
856  Economy / Collectibles / Re: My first Collectib :) on: September 03, 2023, 05:18:34 PM
@Z_MBFM - welcome to the collectibles board of the forum, as you can see already
we have some of the top members here in the collectibles board, everyone is very helpful
and generous in their own ways from time to time with the exception of krogothmanhattan
and with no offence to anyone else,
who is on Free Raffle #527 - outstanding!!

Anyway, I wish you well with building your collection.

Q. how did you get those 3 tokens into the country?

Q. are they the common Gold plated tokens? if they are I started with one if those too!!
857  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Honestly, Bitcoin fits in this gap more than others. on: September 03, 2023, 08:41:39 AM
Come to think of it

Bitcoin is the most reliable digital currency that everything in the world today should move closer to, but the greediness and power in men won't let them.

They can't control it, and that's why they hate it.

Being decentralized is a part why the government should embrace Bitcoin in the world today, it's the only digital currency that can bring peace if allowed as a means of payment around the country.

Instead the Banks are getting in relations with Chainlink and XRP, something that's built centralized and imagine many countries start using these centralized coins and the same FTX shit happens, how will that go? Not good right?

If Bitcoin take that place instead it will be a smooth breeze, the government will have peace themselves, there will be no betrayer of sort because no one have power or control over Bitcoin.

To me Bitcoin just fits in the gap more than any others, oh but the heart of men anyway.

The greediness of men is bringing them closer to Bitcoin, look at the ETF scenario which
is ongoing, there is a demand for institutional investors to get into Bitcoin but not directly

While governments and central banks might still be negative and at best skeptical
of it I think there are very wealthy, successful and influential people who want to
invest in Bitcoin and thats because of what Bitcoin offers. The decentralised element of Bitcoin
is not an issue for these investors but from banks and governments there outlook is less
favourable because of that decentralised aspect.
858  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Sentiment Poll for September on: September 03, 2023, 06:58:48 AM

September is usually not a good month for bitcoin <...>

This is another reason for me to be pessimistic.

Yes me too based on the past performance in September.

Damn I think I voted wrong, I should have voted sideways between 25k and 28k.
Historically September has been reliably negative as shown on the below board.

This year September just falls outside the 6 month window before the halving,
so I believe we will be going sideways with next month and will start to see the
markets moving into the green zones from November as we start the 6 month
approach to next years halving!
859  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: September 03, 2023, 06:33:19 AM
Alcaraz vs Evans the total line is set at 28.5 , i prefer the under 29.5 for some extra safety

Evans was better in second set than first one but Alcaraz is too strong against him. Alcaraz broke Evans' resistance with the points he got at critical times.
It looks like the game will finish in third set, your bet is safe then.

Nole looks tired after the last game. He should finish games in less than 5 sets to stay fit. I want to see him in the final.

Yes I think everyone was expecting a 3 set match here but Evans has been good lately
and Alcaraz is known to "switch off" briefly during some matches and the two combined
resulted in Evans taking a set which killed rohang's bet unfortunately.

I would suggest to pay attention also in Arnaldi vs Norrie match live right now. The Italian guy is leading the match 2 set at 0.
in third set he has won one break point and he is leading the match 3-0.
Norrie was the strong favorite of the match... it would be interesting a come back (current odd @6.25).
The favourite of the match Cameron Norrie have lost to Matteo Arnaldi. From the beginning of the match Arnaldi was much focused on making more and more points. This had made him win the match on direct sets 6-3 6-4 6-3. Comeback performance is always good from Djokovic, but the odds never go down. If I'm not wrong he's confident in winning the match and to make the opponent happy he loses tgy first two sets. Djokovic's win against Laslo Djere lasted 5 sets 6-4 6-4 1-6 1-6 3-6.

Brilliant win by Arnaldi against a very strong opponent! and to do it in 3 clean sets
without tie breaks is impressive.

Sinner plays Wawrinka later and is obvious favourite @1.13, I might bet on Wawrinka
to go over 34.5 but I believe Sinner will be too strong in the end.

and I might double that with a win for de Minaur against Jarry @1.29 or for Jarry to go
over 36.5 @1.77

Sinner won that match against Wawrinka as expected and my over prediction won by .5!
Close one

my other one with de Minaur v Jarry was a massive flop, de Minaur got the job done in
1-6, 3-6 and 2-6

If you are 11 years a Bitcoiner what was your thoughts before CSW started making

goes against everything Bitcoin.

It simply never added up.
