"It wasn’t until an article from Coinfire came out that contained many false true accusations that things began to crumble.   The article basically caused a bank-run, and since we only had so much in reserves got hacked 19 months ago and lost our reserves for those currencies problems began."

Ok, so tell me, why didn't anyone noticed earlier Cryptsy was running an infected wallet?

Maybe it's crazy but this and other similar situations of coins being stolen demonstrates the benefit of having a way to reverse transactions.

Perhaps we should consider a mechanism to reverse a transaction through a vote or consensus. Haven't fully thought out how this could work but it is something to consider.

Something could be designed to allow miners to reverse a specific transaction (and all subequest tx's) through majority consensus in extreme situations such as this.

Mistakes and thefts happen. Fiat banks have the ability to correct mistakes and reverse transactions unless the funds are withdrawn for cash.

I dunno...just thinking out loud.

The only issue with reverse transactions, bitcoin would turn into a world like PayPal where people buy items, then immediately try and reverse a transaction.
This can be abused to hell.

This is completely contrary to the whole point of crypto.  Might as well also suggest a central authority to determine which transactions are legit and which ones need to be reversed.

Exactly charge back hell !
Are we having a game here of shouting bad ideas ?
Sorry if I missed any quotes.

Yes, but majority miner consensus is difficult to achieve...it would work using the same mechanism in place necessary for a fork of BTC itself and we can see how hard that has been with the recent BIP 101 failure. It would be useless on coins with little hashrate since it would be too easy to fork but those coins are worthless without a decent hashrate anyways.

...but this is conversion to be had in a different topic where cooler heads prevail. This proposed change (BIP) to do a consensus reversal may be exactly what's needed to improve acceptance and the security of BTC.   IMHO Tongue

I really wish those people that video interviewed Vern at the time asked the direct question

Vern, does cryptsy have in combined cold wallets and hot wallets for ALL coins listed on cryptsy the same balance as per user holdings.

I.e does your wallet cold and hot have funds = to what is in customer balances and trades.

I love how vern thinks its appropriate to get the community to help him track our own coins down when in the past he couldn't be a community team player himself.

And that bounty.... does vern actually have it and want to put it in reliable escrow? Is that 1000btc just another chunk of customer funds?

Verns seen how this played out for karpeles. He's either going to mix the bitcoin while this news is out under the guise its the hacker moving it and then go rot in prison for a small time then come out and cash out or he's fled somewhere he can't be called back from and will get the funds then.

I don't think Verns as dumb as everyone thinks. He's planned it for a while and if his staff are to be believed he even locks them away from what they don't need to see. Cmon he was buddies with Garza over the emails what does that tell you?

It means Mullick is now complicit in the entire thing. Not only was their an infected wallet they never disclosed this to their public for the clients wallets nor as something naughty being Fincen registered right?

I don't think Mullicks ignorance will hold up. The guy ran ages ago... I think he realised sooner than the rest and the fact that he didn't report it means he allowed it to continue as well.

All the maths is in because the figures are based on exchange rates on the days of the respective thefts. Bitcoin could go to ten grand a coin and the dollar amounts would remain the same.

But that wallet commit Mullick did at Apr 23 2015 was public, right? And in that time everybody knew L7C was running on Cryptsy. Why didn't that cause a shitstorm? The other strange thing is, when Cryptsy knew this coin was fraudulent, why the fuck didn't hey remove the coin from asap at that time?

Can anybody confirm their Cryptsy BTC balance? I cannot at this present time, gives me a zero balance. :/

Hello?

Wake up buddy - it's gone.  Over.  Goodbye.

http://blog.cryptsy.com/

They have updated it, read!

"It wasn’t until an article from Coinfire came out that contained many false accusations that things began to crumble.   The article basically caused a bank-run, and since we only had so much in reserves for those currencies problems began."

You guys called it!  It was all COINFIRE's fault!  /s

Ironically, that 2014 article didn't stop some dude from depositing over ten grand into Cryptsy last December, nor thousands of dudes and dudettes like him - Investards - in spite of the hundreds of warning signs saying STOP!

Way to go, dude, pouring salt in the wounds of those who have their rent moneys tied up in Cryptsy wishing they had said funds so that they can take advantage of a bear market to augment their rent moneys to make rent moneys.  Huh

BigVern really needs to go to jail for this shit.
Selling off coins that were not stolen is a Huge NONO.
If they had came clean when they figured out what happend maybe no jail but Selling off coins like Dash and Eth that don't belong to you is Criminal behavior.
At least 1 year jail time per million usd missing imo preferably more.
Don't let this scammer escape the country please.

The ONLY bank-run I could see after the 'inside job' were more Investards signing up to Cryptsy, with Paul Vernon announcing placement of more cowbells secure servers to handle the load as he continued to siphon off more bitcoins and, perhaps, myriad altcoins. That's a fact, Jack!

Yeah but to be fair the comments from that banskter sellout Mike Hearn need to be on there too.  And all the various times and places where his comments were reposted or reported in the news.  I am inclined to believe the drop has a lot more to do with that than it does crypt-sty.
I think you are mistaken. $12,700,000 beats a foundation member. Millions and Millions and Millions.. or a dude's say so... IT"S MONEY!
