could you imagine Nadal winning all four grand slams this year and doing what Djokovic failed to do last year ? it's seems too good to be true but maybe Roll Eyes

I'm not sure it's that likely. A lot depends on how his foot holds up, and there's also the question of whether it's worse on different surfaces. He was just about okay on clay, and might be okay on grass at Wimbledon, but I'm not sure about hard courts at the US Open, particularly coming after the rest of the hard court season. AO is perhaps harder to assess as it was after the brief end-of-year rest break, and his foot problem didn't seem so bad then.

I agree, who wouldn't want Nadal to do that, but realistically, it's going to be difficult as his body might take a big toll, actually he is injured in this tournament, it's just that he has to elevated his game to win in record fashion. Besides, some of the grand slams tournament is very fast and grass, his not best surface. Maybe he can reach as far as QR or SF, but hard to win specially if it will be Djokovic or someone who is more adept to a fast court.

people even said that he could announce his retirement because of his injury after Rolland Garros which made it harder for me to actually bet him to win it, but Nadal proved those rumors wrong and he said that he will keep fighting and is nothing thinking about retirement now, could you imagine Nadal winning all four grand slams this year and doing what Djokovic failed to do last year ? it's seems too good to be true but maybe Roll Eyes

I also think that this scenario is very unlikely. I have to admit though that would be the absolutely perfect ending to one of the greatest carreers in Tennis that we have ever seen. To win all 4 grand slam tournaments and to retire then afterwards would really be a great thing for Nadal and he would absolutely deserve to leave the stage of tennis in such a great fashion.
I just don't see that happening to be honest. The next grand slam is Wimbledon and Nadal always has a pretty hard time to even reach the quarter or semi-finals there and i don't think that he has a chance against Djokovic there. The same is true for the US Open as i think other players are just stronger on that surface than Nadal.

I have been following Nadal since a long time now, and while he’s one of my favourites yet I don’t expect him to win all the grand glams this year because sooner or later he’ll be taking a break due to his existing injuries. Furthermore I feel that he’ll try and prolong his career rather than risk getting badly injured by playing in all the tournaments, and logically speaking I feel that’s the best decision because he should take regular breaks and avoid getting injured.

Nadal himself have mentioned about his participation into the French Open amidst his injuries. He mentioned, if it weren't French Open I wouldn't have played it with this injury. So, he is much into mastering French Open and he does it for the 14th time. It is always good to take necessary rest to prolong the career. This win have brought him big appreciation beyond tennis. His words on his retirement is really interesting.

Quote
“People who like sports don't like it when someone they admire retires. You don't want Messi or Tiger Woods to retire. I like to see them on TV and I would like to continue watching them.”

I agree with Cnut237 here. Keep in mind Nadal was even willing to let Wimbledon and the US Open go in 2021 for health reasons. I always said that Roger Federer is the greatest of all times, but knowing that Nadal is fighting that injury since 2005!!!, his achievement is beyond imaginable. Even more so, it is now sad to know that his retreat from professional tennis is likely to be anticipated very soon.

The match against Zverev at the French Open was epic, but I believe that in the end he would have taken that home as well. Nadal is an absolute mental monster, and there is no need to talk about his tennis abilities anyway. What an athlete, just amazing.

Right, his priorities  throughout is the French Open because obviously, his chance to win is higher as compare to other tournaments and surfaces. So he carefully picking Grand Slam that he has a good chance. So maybe he will take a break in the other Grand Slams still in the calendar.

The Djokovic match was epic already, he made a huge comeback while against Zverev it was also turning to be great but was forced to retire because of unfortunate injuries.

After Zverev twisted his ankle in the semi-final against Nadal at the French Open he underwent a surgery yesterday. Since all three lateral ligaments in his right ankle were torn the operation was the best choice. He will definitely not be able to play in Wimbledon. Now we have to see when he can start training again. I hope that he will be able to play again in July. But he should be healthy at the time of the US Open.

So Zverev is out of Wimbledon, and Medvedev is banned from Wimbledon. And maybe some other top players will choose to skip it because there are no ranking points.
But what about Nadal and Djokovic, both chasing more slam titles to be the greatest ever? Presumably they will play, as it's a great opportunity for them to get a relatively easy route through to the final... and for Nadal in particular, chasing the calendar slam.

This Wimbledon will really look like the best opportunity in recent times for an outsider to claim the title. Medvedev and Zverev are out, Nadal is doubtful, Đoković is not really in his top form.

He will still be my 1st contender for the title, but I can see somebody from the shadows taking this. Čilić maybe? He's a dark horse for sure.

Yea Marin Cilic, maybe Felix AA.

But as Trofo pointed out Nadal could be eying up his chances to do what
Djokovic couldnt do last year but with Djokovic playing that will be the main
threat i recon.

Nadal has a mixed bag of results at Wimbledon and it isnt his strongest GS
as we all know but yea it would be hard ignore him now with this new
insight regarding the Calendar Slam

If there was not the chance for calendar slam I would be quite sure that Nadal is skipping Wimbledon. As it stands now with Zverev and Medvedev missing I am thinking he is liking his chances very much and that he will do anything to play in it. Even if it means risking a bigger injury since he is aware this is his last chance to get that calendar slam, time is not on his side.

not sure about that, but I think that Nadal chances on Wimbledon are slim without an injury, and with a, no matter how small, injury, he is out from favorite list
and he is probably aware of that, could try nevertheless, but I somehow doubt that

saw that Federer is out as well, this will be really interesting tournament, with one finalist probably already known (no matter third on ATP, Djokovic will be no.1 seed), but other could be anyone, really anyone - my bets are with Norrie

No one will match what Nadal has shown. He's so damn good at the Gravel in Paris. I can't remember seeing anyone there that was that good. He may not be the very best all round. It can also be difficult to be the best on all surfaces. Djokovic seems to be having a somewhat lesser period, but that may also have to do with all the vicissitudes that have arisen due to his covid situation and the whole circus with vaccination. We are now almost no longer bothered by covid in the sports world. Let's see who is the best at Wimbledon later.

I dont think that Zverev will be back until the end of the year. His injury i think is really serious even with this surgery i dont think he will be back until end of the year. So for sure he wont be back for us open this year

He will still be my 1st contender for the title, but I can see somebody from the shadows taking this. Čilić maybe? He's a dark horse for sure.

It can be an interesting year for Wimbledom but Djokovic has by far the best chance to win it, so the odds for him to win will probably not so high. Cilic is in form this year, given his run at Roland Garros, but I doubt that he will win it. He hasn't really been consistent enough the last couple of years!

Yes, that's what I think, too. Wimbledon may be possible as the grass could be quite an okay surface for his bad foot... but I think Nadal winning the US Open would really be quite unlikely, as it's a hard court, and unlike the AO which was at the start of the season when he's had a bit of a rest, the US Open is towards the end of the season when his foot is already suffering a lot.

It will still be Djokovic in both US and Wimbledon as the favorite. Nadal might not enter in both tournaments though specially if his foot bothers him.

Not sure about Cilic as well, hmm, I'm thinking Medvedev or a healthy Zverev can give Djokovic a problem? Djokovic competitive spirit though might have woken again seeing Nadal raising the GS trophy one more time. He will get back for sure and wanted a GS this year.

Čilić actually has the game which suits grass surface best and he could go far this year.

Djoković is a big favourite with all those top players missing out. Nadal is currently undergoing some special treatment for the foot and he hopes to be ready in time but he said he will not play if he had to take same numbing drugs as in RG.

Zverev is out for sure and I don't think Wimbledon will buckle up and ler Russians play.

Is there anywhere I can bet on Medvedev winning it? The odds on that should be huge now and I still feel that they will eventually allow them to play.
If they do - Medvedev would be one of the favorites for sure. But the odds at that point wouldn't really be high.

Wherever I looked - Medvedev isn't an option to bet. Which is logical of course, but I am for sure not the only one looking to gamble on this with bigger risk at higher odds?

Anyway - if someone finds it, please let me know.
