There is no taste of Australia without Djokovic, I haven't watched the previous games but the last set of the final will not be missed. Medvedev will make history if he wins. Now the era of the big three is over, the new generation is taking over.

Had to go out now, did not expect match to get in this long but have a feeling will return home to see Nadal get his 21st.

What a turnaround of events in this match. Nadal really managed to come back after being 0-2 behind and win his 21st grand slam. I would guess that only the most loyal Nadal fans expected him to be able to do this after he lost the second set in such a close and dramatic way. I have to say though that nadal can thank Medvedev 100 times for throwing the match away. Medvedev was 2-0 sets up and he already had 3 break points again in the second set while Nadal was serving, but then he somehow stopped playing aggressively and he gave away all those 3 break points in a very weird way in my opinion. After that the momentum changed and Medvedev was not the same anymore.

Well, I got the women's and men's winner right, and made a little bit of profit... so my betting record is improving a bit, even if the women's winner wasn't remotely surprising and the men's winner wasn't a huge shock either... so it's not exactly a proud achievement, but I'll take what I can get!

Yeah, that's unfair on him. This wasn't about the Russian throwing the game, it's about Nadal reminding everyone that today, the modern great athlete ages like fine wine. Imagine, how good can all the current crop of 20+ year olds will be after a decade of experience?

Ash Barty fine, was a clear favourite, but I think getting Nadal right is worth some gold (given his age and the rise to prominence of so many young ones). So you deserve every pat on the back for that.

I'm really looking forward to see Djoko get in he next GS because someone needs to match Nadal's 21 now. I know I've said so many times Fedex has his last shot but I definitely want to see a swansong. All the elite athletes of 20+ GS in one tournament

This has to go down as one of the best comebacks in the history of Tennis. Specially I have to say that the audience played a huge part in Nadal winning the trophy.

You know, Medvedev was so close to the win but since he made a mistake, the audience got the better of him as they cheered a lot for Nadal and maybe that's why Medvedev got nervous and eventually lost his momentum giving away the trophy to Nadal. I have to say great resilience from Nadal.

Well... potentially more drama to come. I believe France are cracking down on the unvaccinated, they said a couple of weeks ago that "all athletes have to be vaccinated"... so unless that changes, in a few months' time we could be watching Rafa win his 22nd (22nd Slam I mean, not 22nd French open... although he's not far off!).

yea great final, over 5 hours of great Tennis from both players, lots of breaks,
lots of drama and super trick shots. The service game played a big role for both
today, Nadal's wasnt great but became more effective as the match progressed and
Medvedev's was super for the first set but started to weaken as the match progressed.

Rafas stamina stayed true while Medvedev seemed to suffer late in the fourth set.

Medvedev's drop shots were not great, neither were Rafas but better, to me Rafas forehand
winners were better than
Medvedev's backhand ones.

Looking at the stats for the game Medvedev's are marginally better but its about
"the moments" or "key moments" which I suppose experience can make the difference.

Well done to all who backed Nadal, I'm happy for him and it will be hard to bet against
him now.

I really don't believe he's ^Djokovic going to throw away his great career because he does not want to be vaccinated. Wimbledon will certainly not be able to play without the vaccine there the rules are even more rigorous and clear. US open probably will do the same rule.

Really impressive that nadal managed to win again at his curent age but i think the fact that he didnt play match last year due to the injury helped him a little since medvedev has been really competing almost all year long, i think with nadal new grand slam we will see more rivalry from djokovic in the roland garros tournament its gonna be fire.

Nadal generally had a fantastic tournament and won an incredibly intriguing final, despite the fact that few people expected him to get into the final of the Australian Open at all. Nadal probably did not expect such an outcome of the tournament himself, because as Nadal himself said after the match that he himself did not know a month and a half ago whether he would be able to return to the tour and play tennis. Nadal also said that a month and a half ago he would have said that it is possible that this is the last Australian open, but now he has enough energy to continue. Rafael showed his matchless character and was able to return to the match after two lost sets, which he had not been able to do since 2007. Rafa's uncle and coach Tony Nadal said on this occasion that he lost a little faith when Rafa lost the second set. Now I have no doubt that Nadal will arrange the same stubborn battle for Roland Garros. Medvedev would like to wish not to despair and continue to increase his level and new Grand Slam titles will definitely come.

I agree with @Trofo this is a statement win for Nadal. Down 2 sets and then a miracle comeback, won his 21st GS against the second seed Medvedev who is leading the pack of the young generation.

But Djokovic and Nadal is not done yet, from from it and showing this guys how to do it right. LOL.
I'm sure a lot of us are happy with the Nadal victory because he is the underdog and a huge win for us bettors.

I don't think there's any chance of him getting vaccinated - that has to be the least likely outcome.

It may be that he can't play at the French. Wimbledon may be okay for him though, I don't know. We are relaxing restrictions here in the UK... but certainly if he's been banned from Australia and France, there will be some pressure to prevent him coming here to the UK, too. US I don't know, probably depends on the situation at the time. And there is of course the chance that If Omicron fades away and everywhere around the world starts to drop restrictions, maybe he can even play in France... it's probably too early right now to make a definite call on any of them, it's just that as it stands at the moment, France is a no.

I agree that Nadal and Djokovic are still major players in Tennis, Djokovic now has
his sights on leap-froging Nadal in the titles race, today he needs to win 2 GS's and after
RG he will potentially need 3.

There is also pressure mounting on his #1 spot from Medvedev who no doubt is
a serious contender for possibly RG and the US Open GS's.

Medvedev is not really a contender for RG, clay is by far his worst surface and traditionally he skips most of the clay season and when he plays he often looses against players that would get maybe few games against him on other surfaces. For instance he lost last season to Garin and Karatsev. Season before that he played only 2 tournaments and lost in first match again against Humbet and Fucsovics.

Clay season will be the reign of Nadal, Tsitsipas and Djokovic (if he is allowed to play). I am also expecting big things from guys like Ruud and Thiem.

What Nadal did yesterday was simply outstanding. It just shows how dominant the old 3 were in their prime (Federer, Nadal, Đoković) compared to anything else we have seen in tennis before and after it.

Medvedev is a great player - he's got it all. Yet - he's already 25 years old and has only one GS to his name so far.

I'm really glad Nadal has won it, the battle between him and Đoković for the top spot is still on. It will be a fantastic Rolland Garros.

Well, yeah, meanwhile, we've got the Scandinavians slowly going towards regarding Covid as a non-threat to society and the UK also just easing down on everything (but noting that at least in the former case, supposedly it's because hospitalisations are very low and no longer a burden, partly in any case because of high vaccinated population in the cities).

I always tell my kids: my house my rules, so yeah, can't argue if France insists, it'd be much better for everyone if we didn't go and make this any more dramatic than it already has been. If he won't play, he won't play. Shame for us if not though.

This is precisely why I want Djokovic to play, to see these 3 guys (and I can't help but hope Tsitsi finds his break) rule. Medvedev outclassed every opponent on his serve in AO, but that's nullified with clay.
