Ricky Rubio announced his stepping out from professional activity to take care of his mental health. So, the World Cup is coming and he'll be out there for sure.

Does this means that it's possible that he's also going to be out of NBA and won't play for the Cavs when the regular season starts if he's not yet okay?

Nah, I don't think he'll give up his NBA career, it's a bit early for the 2019 FIBA MVP to give up this early. I mean that's his bread and butter right there and his passion as well. If he thought skipping the FIBA world cup could bring goodness to his career, pretty much everyone in the same shoe will do the same. It's also good for his mental health that the Spanish team respected his decision.
He should be more ready in the coming season so he won't lose but improve his value, otherwise he's going to disappear unnoticeably like the other role players in the NBA, since he's actually close to it after recovering from an injury he was struggling real hard when he have rejoined his team in the middle of the season.

It's very unlikely that Rubio will give up his NBA career. And it's common for NBA stars to take a pass on world cups, especially the American superstars since it is the Olympics that they are giving more prestige. Rubio is already 32, so he better takes care of himself physically and mentally if he wants to continue playing in the NBA once his contract expires after the 2024-25 season.

And Rubio will be excited in the coming NBA season with the arrival of Max Strus to Cleveland. Last season they already made it 4th in the Eastern Conference during the first-year stint of Donovan Mitchell so I am expecting the team to be better this coming season.

For it's the buildup, and the chemistry of the team that really brought them into championship level. Murray just got injured in a prior season and then Porter Jr if I'm not mistaken has suffered from back spam that really bother him.

And with the team healthy last season, we can see how they become the top contender in the West and then totally dominated the playoffs although they have to contend against Booker and Durant.

But after that, it was a mismatch with Miami in the finals.
I like it how people talk about in success terms like a teams whole point is to get a win. But in reality that is not the case at all however people end up failing to realize that. The point of a team for an owner is to be a good investment, would a win make it better?

Of course it would, but also the point is the fact that if you are making a lot of money even without a win, then there is no need to keep overworking on it. Look at Knicks, they make profit every single year, hence never need to win anything, and the value of the team goes up. Having Lebron and AD on your team may or may not get you a ring, it once did, you just keep them because it makes the company a lot more valuable and that's how your teams value goes up.

I don’t think next year is a player option for Harden. He just resigned an extension a few weeks ago, so it would be really weird if the first year of his extension was a player option…

It seems some news sites are posting different information regarding Harden. Where did you find information that he re-signed an extension a few weeks ago?
I checked the basketball-reference website, and it says he doesn't have any contract extension but only a player option for next season. Also, there was info earlier that Harden is not eligible for a contract extension because he signed a two-year deal with the 76ers last offseason.

I can’t view your link and l’m not sure if that twitter status is a reliable source because sports news outlet including the official NBA website already published the news about Harden sign an extension contract with the Phila. You can read the official news on this article https://www.nba.com/news/harden-agrees-to-2-year-68-6m-deal-with-76ers.

I'm not surprised why Harden declined the player option that will give him a better pay because Phila is the best team for him to have a shot for a championship because of Embiid. I think this is the most potential team for him since he is starting to be out of his prime like KD. It's only a matter of time until they suffer same fate with Westbrook career.

You linked to an article from last year that was published on the NBA website on July 30, 2022. In fact, I wrote about the same two-year contract in my previous post. Pay attention that according to this contract, Harden got $33 million for the 22/23 season, and he will get another $35 million for the 23/24 season. The upcoming season is a player option that he actually used.
Moreover, the 76ers are clearly not the best team for him since he wants to be traded to the Clippers.

Ricky Rubio is still young at 32 years old, (although I thought that he is a bit older). It's good that we here sports athletes citing mental health as a issues and it's concerning.

However, I also do agree that he won't simply retire because of that reasons, maybe he just nee to skip the World Cup and the pressures of playing for his country again. And he is coming from injury too and perhaps this contributed to his having a mental breakdown. Nevertheless, if he is still as competitive as he is, then he will continue to play in the NBA.

Working with your mental health needs deeper attention, if he chooses to take care of it and step away from the world cup

It's his decision to make and in terms of NBA career, I do hope that those who are surrounding him and helping him
with his health are really guiding him with whatever path he's trying to proceed. He's still young and there's still good
amount of money that he can take if he will continue playing with his Cavs team.

For sure, him coming out of the public, his NBA are going to help him whatever they can because as we have said, this is not just a simple issues. Every athlete has undergone some mental issues and they can't just cope with it if they are alone.

And with his NBA family around and supporting him, for sure it will be very much an easy path for him to recovery. As I have said, his still very young and at his prime and could play and contribute and can progress throughout his career.

Mental health issue is really important to take care and good for him to rest for a while since he's playing on his national team for many years and for sure he's teammates could understand his current situation. Rubio can fix all that and I'm also sure that this will be not the reason for his retirement since even if he is at the peak of his career still he can contribute well to the team where he belong.

I agree to that, he's been with the National team for quite a while and missing one for this upcoming world cup might be understandable
for his teammates and for everyone who's working for the team.

We don't have any updates regarding to his next move in terms of his comeback game for his NBA team, if that will also be affected or not.

Whatever the decision, as long as it will help him better to choose that route and help himself to fix this mental health issue.

One of the great passers for me. Whenever I watch his passes back when he's still in Minnesota, I'm still wowed on how he is passing the ball to his teammates. He's a great passer, but injuries got him very bad in most of his NBA career, and like you said, it might contributed on why he decided to focus on his mental health right now.

As to if he will return to the NBA, it will depend on the outcome of this rehabilitation for him. If basketball is his passion, he might still play basketball. Will he return in the NBA? TBH, chances are very low because of his history within the league. Injuries, injuries, and injuries all throughout his career. I think it would be better for him to just play to his national team, or to involve himself into anything that's related to basketball, but not coming back to the NBA. He's young though at 32, he's still at his prime, but I don't think that any other team will re-sign him once his contract expires with the Cavs knowing his history of injuries.

Overall, I still commend him for being a good passer in his first years in the league.

For sure fans and his teammate would consider that knowing how many times he bring some glory to his motherland so I guess for his current battles facing right now he really need to rest to fix his self since it will be bad for him and for the team if they or he push if he's not in proper condition since everything might mess up. He's always good for deciding that since he can give his slot to other player and maybe they can discover another potential player that can help them to their campaign on worldcup.

He was still young when he started his career with the NBA because he was already tagged as an exeptional player because he had an early exposure with his national team which is the Spance.

Ricky Rubio was born in El Masnou, Catalonia, Spain on December 21, 1990. After starting his professional basketball career in Spain at age 14, Rubio was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the fifth overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. However, he played two more seasons in span before coming to the NBA.

Rubio was a good passer one of the best but unfortunately his points production isn't that impressive.
If we look at his stats : https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/rubiori01.html

He is not a player who averages 20+ PPG, so not really as good as CP3 during his prime and other great good ball handlers in the NBA.

His announcement and all the news indicated that his decision is to retire for good. I though he is gone indefinitely. He sure seems not ok if making a statement like this was the last choice. Personally, I don't like his style and his performances and lately, in the recent years, he wasn't much effective. But it is powerful to see an Nba player announce something like that. His mental condition must be quite bad. If he is indeed really bad and there are things that public doesn't know, it is good for him to retire now. Nothing is more important than health. To pushing a career for empty reasons is not good for anybody anyway. I feel like he will not continue his career. He obviously seems done.

I will always remember that draft when the Timberwolves had 2 top 10 picks and chose 2 point guards both of which went higher than steph Curry.  Crazy how one pick over another completely changes the history of the NBA.  OH and the other point guard was Johnny Flynn from Syracuse lol.

I just think that we should consider that Rubio may have been like this because he played professional basketball since he was 14. This dude could be one of the players with highest epectation for a career out there ever. Imagine being epected to be great sinc 14, its been 20+ years easily. If you are lebron and achieve it then its ok but when you are not that good then it may hurt you in the end. This shouldnt be a big deal to give a break, do some stuff he has fun doing whatever he likes doing. Dont know if he is married or has children but if he is, spending time with them would be a good choice for sure. I wish him the best for rest of his life, I will always remember as a great passer and a good PG

I agree, he needs some rest. He's been on the pro scene since he's a teenager and I think that he deserves all the rest that he's about to do now. Mental health is a serious matter but still like nothing to the most people. I know that everyone will feel that it's like a waste of talent and career for him but the dude needs some rest. Being in the pro scene for 18 years and started at a young age, that's enough for him to retire though. Look at the other NBA players that did even retired earlier but he just need it. I'd give it to him and if he ever has a contract still, I am sure that his team manages to do the adjustments for him and understands the situation unless they don't want to do that and want him to honor the contract they've made.

Hopefully that is really the case because mental health problems are not an easy problem to solve, it takes patience and time but the hard thing about it is that there is a chance that the person going through it might never go back to his or her old self because the issues have already swallowed the person entirely. They might appear somewhat okay but in their insides, it's already killing them that is why we have some unfortunate news sometimes that they took their own life as they don't know what to do anymore.

Shouldn't be an issue I think because even before they played professionally in the NBA, they have already known some facts that the greatest players aren't born every day. LeBron James himself did not expect it to happen to himself as by his words "I was just a kid from Akron, Ohio and I shouldn't even be here". He was just playing basketball since then and turns out that he is born to be great at it.

What I think is that it would be an issue that will eventually turn into a mental problem if the people around you is giving you so much pressure and expectation that you will be one of the greatest and will change the system of NBA, and in this case it is Rubio. Anyway, we don't know that much about him that led him to this situation, so let's just hope for the best and that he can overcome his challenge much sooner.

There’s also the possibility that players get so much money nowadays, some of them would rather retire young and take advantage of being wildly rich. While some players go broke from their lifestyle after playing, there are plenty of players who could retire and live happily ever after with a few paychecks. I don’t blame them for wanting to enjoy life and not care about their playing legacy.
