Just curious what is the financial benefit of running a PIVX masternode?

Presumably the operator gets a share of the transaction fees. Is mining involved as well?

Apologies if these points were mentioned earlier in the thread, but I don't have time to go through the whole 300 odd pages so far.

Thanks in advance.

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

Just curious what is the financial benefit of running a PIVX masternode?

check the link of the post above, u can see the current rewards for staking and nodes there (rewards changing all the time)

Presumably the operator gets a share of the transaction fees. Is mining involved as well?

no mining is over since august 2016 if  i remember right
edit: you can mine other coins and get paid with pivx
check this post https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1262920.msg18159054#msg18159054

I selected vultr with
1 vCore
RAM:
512 MB
Storage:
20 GB SSD

hosting plan.

Could you tell me how to configure 5 nodes with 5 ipv6 addresses?
"you can run 5 nodes for 5 bucks /Month  (you get 5 ipv6 adresses) "

I selected cheapest vultr hosting option 2.5 usd per month for now.

Thanks, going to prepare masternode probably in the meantime.

Do you know any ideal low cost VPS provider, please?

Thanks. Now I see the green up arrow icon and it displays "Staking is active"!

Expected, it takes a while to activate. Again, hit the dedicated #support channel or forums if you want fast and dedicated support.

sounds good you should be fine now, it takes a while until you get your first reward
happy staking

well vultr is quite cheap and they had an upgrade a little while ago (https://www.vultr.com/)
you can run 5 nodes for 5 bucks /Month  (you get 5 ipv6 adresses)
but you need some ubuntu, shell, ssh skills.

if want to run only one node and don't have experience with ubuntu and stuff i recommend mp-hosting
http://my.mp-hosting.co.uk

edit there is also a support forum for mp-hosting if you have questions:

vultr 5 nodes setup guide from mxnsch here:

hmm i can at least try for you. can you send me the download link for your wallet.dat with pm?

edit: if you only have a corrupted chain database: this is easy to solve.
if your wallet.dat file is really corrupt i can try the recover with professional (and expensive) data rescue sw which i use for my it business

anyway you don't have to pay me either way
maybe 0.25 donation for me and 0.25 for pivx project but only if i need expensive rescue sw.

I'm sorry to hear about that Sad i usually make 5-6 backups in cold storage of any wallet to specifically prevent any loss that can be caused by corruption.You should send the wallet to DRPD, he seems very eligible for the job  Grin

Trying to stake and followed the tutorial here: https://forum.pivx.org/t/how-to-stake-your-pivx-coins-basic/131/3

I went through all the steps in the video. Wallet is funded, encrypted and unlocked for anon and staking only. Wallet is fully synched. Yes, changed the config file to "staking=1"

But the arrow is still grey not green and says "Staking is not active. Multisend: not active"

What do I do? Thanks

After the first time you sync your chain it requires you to restart the wallet before it will stake, that might be it.

Reminder that PIVX has a very strong Slack community. We now have over 550 community members on Slack. The group is very helpful with support, you can get involved in marketing, web, or other community functions. Also a number of multi-language channels and random channels like trading, etc. You can join here: http://slack.pivx.org/.

The good news is price is rising and there has continued to be very strong buy support. Masternode count is approaching 2k. Development is picking up at a very fast clip. Last update five days ago: https://github.com/PIVX-Project/PIVX/releases/. Tons of bug fixes, and improvements.

Keep up the great work everyone.

Unfortunately I've tried that a few times and it doesn't work.  One of the comments in that thread said there's some additional code after "staking=1" but they didn't link to where I can find it?

In the wallet click tools > Open configuration file
add a line that says
Code:
staking=1
Save and close
Restart wallet

Your config file should look like this:
listen=1
server=1
daemon=1
staking=1
logtimestamps=1
masternode=0
rpcuser=CHOSENUSERNAME
rpcpassword=CHOSENPASSWORD
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcport=51470
port=51472

listen, daemon are very important
pick any unique user and a long password. So if you have multiple wallets/masternodes have different usernames

exciting times right ? was a good time to pick new nodes.. I just dont have any free BTC left to play with... it really feel that are people that sell from the top in such a way that it causes others to react (in panic lol) and then (moment is measured like a science)  they pick for 1/2 price new nodes and grow coins that way.. better than master nodes payout! but one has to have guts to do that, many I guess perfected this craft
