He's got to get a penalty for that, surely. He wasn't even contesting the corner, he was more than a full car length behind, and then cut the corner to take the lead. Perfectly clear-cut penalty. You're not allowed to take a short-cut!

But that means Ocon leads, right?

Edit: The officials are negotiating with Red Bull? Ham starting first and Verstappen second? This is very strange. And bad luck for Ocon if that happens.

It's weird, isn't it? He's basically making Red Bull an offer? Everything should be investigated, surely. This is bizarre. And it's not like they have to make a quick decision, it's been red-flagged FFS, they have plenty of time for the stewards to look at everything thoroughly.

What are the odds on another red flag at the next restart?

This is the craziest race I've ever seen. More incidents here than the rest of the season combined.

It was a really long long race to watch,it started at 18.30 European time and ended near 21.00 as a lot of events happened.However this just clearly indicated that this Driver's Championship is going to be won by Mercedes.The last track does not differ much from these last two that we saw a clear power of Mercedes over any other team.Sorry to say that right now but I find it impossible for Max Verstappen to win the title in normal racing conditions,luck has to favor him greatly for him to have a chance to win the title.Honda although improved a lot is still not able to fight against Mercedes in really fast tracks like these last ones.

I don't know, he very nearly won that one, despite it being in theory a Mercedes track and with Hamilton having his newish Brazil engine back. They are now level on points, but Max is ahead because of most race victories, so in the event of an "accidental" crash causing a double DNF, Max would be champion. Wonder what the odds are on that? 

There is also the steward's verdict to come shortly about the brake-testing incident. But I would expect no penalty for Max, it would be a shame to see him get a grid drop for the final winner-takes-all race next week.

One of the craziest races i have ever witnessed and in the end it was again Hamilton that managed to win...the car of Mercedes just is quite a lot faster than the one of Red Bull. We saw 3 starts today which is great for the viewers because the start is basically the most exciting part at the moment in the formula 1 and even though verstappen was to slow in the second one he was having a great start and a perfect first corner in the third start to go into the lead, but again Mercedes had a way faster race pace then Red Bull and Verstappen had no chance to hold hamilton back. If this continues then i think that Verstappen can not do to much if Hamilton makes no mistakes in the last race.

Very exciting race today with many unexpected events. 3 starts, many collisions and now we are tied on points going into the last race. Mercedes will win the Constructors' World Championship but in the Drivers' World Championship we can only guess the outcome. Crazy but exciting race.

And I haven't saw such emotional TotoWolf for long time - first he almost brake table after accident and later celebrated win like crazy.
Bottas drag race against Occon and P3 on finish line was cherry on top for Mercedes. Now constructor's trophy is almost in their hands.
In one my post I predicted that we may see safety cars and red flags on the race, but it was difficult to expect such crazy things.
All square before las round - did we ever had both title contenders with same amount of points before last race?

It was really epic, but in previous seasons we haven't heard conversations between teams and FIA, so, maybe it didn't happened for the first time.

If this wasn't a street track then I would guess that there would be a chance Verstappen could still win, but this situation changes things. F2 shown us that there could be drivers overtaking each other, and even with a gearbox change he will have some people he could pass, but I highly doubt that Max will be able to pass Mercedes on this track. If he got the pole position then he could have reached the end by just defending smartly, it is quite possible to do that but now the same chance will be at the hands of Mercedes.

Unless Bottas makes a big mistake again, he will be capable of holding Max long enough to give Hamilton clear 7-8 seconds at least, and that is just Bottas, imagine all the other people, so I am not entirely sure. I hope his gearbox is safe and he can finish the race, otherwise it is going to be very sad to see him retire which will 99% means he will lose the championship on technical issues instead of racing.

This is like an epic movie and the perfect finale will be next week?
What will happen? If both will end with 0 points Max will be the winner so I think if it will be necessary...

About this race, it was epic the track was nice and next year it will be even more epic since cars will follow easier other cars since the new configuration of the car.

Indeed, we do not know about whether such negotiations have taken place before and something tells me that this has already happened, but it simply was not brought to the public's attention. With all the incredible finish and jump to the podium right at the finish line, Bottas once again failed to wedge himself between Hamilton and Verstappen to provide Lewis with at least a minimal gap before the final race. It is significant that Max did not stay on the balcony after the award ceremony and immediately left, leaving Mercedes representatives to celebrate their success alone. Red Bull's bet on tuning the car just to win qualifying did not work, because in the race, Hamilton's car still looked faster despite the hard type of tires.

I think the only circumstance where he won't try this is if he is ahead of Hamilton. If Hamilton is ahead, or threatening to overtake, then Max will try everything he can to take him out.

Max is a very fast driver, but he's willing to break the rules to get the result. Some top drivers are like that. It's how Senna won the title in the final race back in I think 1990. And Schumacher tried it twice in the final race, once on Damon Hill where he successfully caused Hill to DNF and so won the title, and again a couple of years later he tried the exact same thing on Villeneuve, but Villeneuve managed to limp home in his damaged car to take the title.

I'm absolutely certain that Max will try to crash into Lewis if he gets the chance. I'd really rather they were going into the final race with Lewis one point ahead, so that everything could be decided by who is the fastest, not who is the dirtiest.

Max has been lucky with the stewards so far, two very minor penalties in the last race, 5 seconds meant nothing, and then a retrospective 10 second penalty and 2 points on his license for the brake-testing... again, an irrelevant punishment that will only encourage him.

It's hard to say, but I don't think Verstappen will intentionally cause an accident, maybe provoke it, but we saw yesterday that Hamilton also makes mistakes, he could have passed Verstappen but didn't want to give him DRS. Of the two no longer gives way and it will be a fierce battle in the last race.

The rebuilt course could Mercedes come to good, but is also not sure the cars are track dependent slightly better or worse.

6,6s difference between FP1 and FP2, with no rain, that's crazy. The track was really really green ! I guess logical for a new, sandpit circuit.

Keep in mind on Friday drivers can use any engine, then change it for Saturday without penalty, so it's possible the leaders were on old, tired engines, not delivering as much power as the ones they'll use tomorrow.

yeah the track is new and most of the teams drivers needs plenty of testing so my many will be on seeing red flag. cause the circuit is brand new plus its narrow and closed like Baku and Monaco so and lock or slip or squeez and since there is not much for or runaways thats will lead to a crash and with the tight circuit it will need a red flag to remove the damaged car and to to mention this is the end of the season drivers will try to push hard and gain more points as constructors championship and rankings still wide open this will make the drivers going adventuress.

two Red Flags Safety and countless virtual Safety Car kind of expected to see this, I have thrown a small bet on it but too bad the odds were not too great for having Safety Car.
The bookies knew that there is high chances to see accidents and with the track being a street track and especially new one accidents will happen and that gonna require to have Safety Car or Red Flag if the car needs to be removed needs time and space to do so.
Anyway we are heading to Abu Dhabi with both drivers on same points I wonder what's RedBull going to throw now on Lewis's Hamilton to stop him from winning his 8th title.

I think no one before has seen something like this, there it goes like a "horse trading", very strange and absolutely not exactly professional and then there is also forgotten Ocon ...

Whatever that race was and whatever happened in it, I think Verstappen and Red Bull would’ve gotten the same result even if he didn’t make that mistake in sector 3 at Q3 and started at pole during the race.

Hamilton’s pace in that Mercedes was really fast.  It’s almost like they just discovered something they should’ve discovered at the start of the season.

Anyway it’s the guy who finishes with more points win.  Both drivers are tied in championship points.  When was the last time something like this happened?
