Former MotoGP racer Danilo Petrucci made history when he won stage five of the 2022 Dakar Rally.
Danilo Petrucci became the first former MotoGP racer to successfully win one of the Dakar Rally stages.

The victory was recorded by Danilo Petrucci in the competition which took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Thursday (6/1/2022).

I thought that nobody here follows Dakar .
Petrucci win was impressive thing. Straight move from MotoGP to Dakar, it's crazy considering that racing in these events is two different worlds. Though, in general, Petrucci isn't great, he is near to the bottom in overall standings and he already had crash.
Remember when Fernando Alonso tried to race in Dakar few years ago. Well, his performance was not great, not terrible.

I am eagerly looking forward to the upcoming F1 season. And I do hope that Lewis Hamilton will start racing for Mercedes again. Will get a fanatic young team mate full of ambitions. He won't be good enough now to beat Lewis. Verstappen vs Lewis, I'll keep it at 50-50% anyway, Is that actually coming season that the cars must now have a lot of with performance and power together due to the new regulations? More fair of course.

I'm also very excited about the new season, it doesn't have to be a battle between Hamilton and Verstappen again, it depends a lot on the performance of the cars next year and I hope that Ferrari will be in the front again, it could possibly be a three-way fight?

The cars next year are very heavy and I am curious to see who will be able to handle them best, including tyre management.

It's great to see that F1 is always looking for new things to engage fans more and win new ones too.
Happy to know that the São Paulo GP is one of those chosen to host this news.

There will definitely be more action on the track, drivers and teams will be better rewarded based on their merit and it also gives others the chance to bounce back over the weekend in order to increase their chances of doing well on Sunday.

I'm already looking forward to the restart of F1.

There is always money in big sports.

Where F1 is rather unique, and it hasn't always been the case but it is now, is that the main teams are backed by powerful companies. Mercedes, Renault, Ferrari, Red Bull, they make a lot of money, with or without F1. So F1 has to be careful to not upset these companies too much. And of course, take care of the fans too. It's already dodgy to compete in some countries where nobody cares about F1...

That's the thing about F1, they have a lot more money and somehow they are getting a lot more attention and marketing from all of these companies as well, whoever enters F1 ends up promoting it basically. Look at indycar series, we are talking about something that has all cars nearly equal if I am not wrong, it may or may not be stock cars for all teams but at least it is equal which means that the race never gets decided on which team has the better car but only which driver is better and some strategy and changing some other small stuff like air in tires or wing height etc etc, or even just pure luck basically.

This is why I believe that we should check that out if we are f1 fans and see what would happen if we gave drivers all the same cars. I am 100% certain Hamilton wouldn't have 7 championships for sure, there is NO way he gets 7 titles if he was on equal cars with people, he is good but not THAT good without having a dominating car under him.

It would be great to see drivers in the same car, but at the same time it wouldn't be F1. I think Hamilton would fare well, because he's very good in qualis, so he would be statistically in front of the others most of the time.

But I do think he's over-rated, and the four titles flatter him, as he's not been able to replicate that form without a supremely dominant car. My use of the word 'awful' was just a way to question whether number of overtakes is necessarily a good measure of ability, a hypothetical example of a driver in a good car who is bad at qualifying.

No, Vettel is a better driver than Stroll.

And since you’ve made a point with Perez, Alonso starts further back too and he had less overtakes than Vettel in the Alpine which is def a better car than the Aston Martin.  Just saying...  

Alonso had second most overtakes out of anyone, so I don't think this says much.


Overall, I think Vettel is a good driver. I don't think he's awful, but I don't think he's great. I think if he was at Mercedes or Red Bull, then Max or Lewis would outclass him quite easily in the same car.

Are we discussing over if 4 time F1 champion (all back to back) is good or not? I mean for the past 60 years or so, there has been only 2 people who have managed to get that achievement, Hamilton and Schumi.

I get that Vettel had some problems with some of the teams after that, which is totally understandable but that was literally the years where Mercedes just dominated the league so much that at one point they were averaging 30+ seconds to closest other team.

Sure Vettel had that one year, but aside from that it was usually not that easy for him to beat Mercedes, even if Mazepin drove Mercedes I say Vettel wins maybe 1-2 championship at the very most, that car was THAT good, hopefully it changes this year. He may not look like much right now to many newbies but he is one of the best driver in the F1 history, definitely top 10 in the history, some may even say top 5, but top 10 is definite.

^ It can be said that Vettel is quite good as a driver. If we look at Merc or Red Bull, they have both the good drivers and the best cars which accumulatively makes them the best F1 racers.

But drivers like Vettel don't get the car that Hamilton or Max get which is ways a big drawback for them. This is why I feel like if all the cars were the same, it would've been a fair game. Lemme know what you guys think about it.

I would say over half of every championship Hamilton won was with a dominant car as well, is that making him an "awful" driver? Vettel won 4 times in a row, that alone is great, not a lot of people have done it as talked about before, even with a dominant car. Hamilton has 7 championships and 6 of them were with cars so dominating that it was not even close, by your logic Hamilton sucks big time.

Also how could overtaking doesn't say too much? These are the people who are actually world champions and racing very cleverly and they know how to overtake others because newbies are not that great at it, how could you say that in a race sport, overtaking doesn't say much? Alonso is great, Vettel is great as well, Kimi was great too, they just had amazingly horrible cars. Give Vettel and Alonso Mercedes cars next year and I guarantee you, one one of them will be the champions.

Everyone already knows that the 2022 MotoGP season has not yet started because they are still waiting for the pre-season test in February, but on this occasion I would like to ask two questions about the Helmet brand used by each rider in MotoGP 2022.
1. How many brands are from Italy ?
2. Besides those from Italy, where do all the helmet brands come from ?

Sprint races definitely added a little bit more extra to it for sure. I mean it wasn't all that much this year, it was only 3 attempts and nothing major happened in any of them as far as I can remember. Most drivers just focused on finishing the way they started and I know there were some overtakes but it didn't really changed much of the season for sure. This is why I hope that we will get to see more of it, and get to decide if we like it or not based on a lot more.

By the end of next season it will be 9 sprints done in history, and then we can make a much better decision on it. Not like they are going to stop doing it the moment we dislike it, they will keep giving it a chance and if it is highly disliked and complained about then they may reconsider a few years later but for a while we have to learn to live with it, maybe even like it.

@el kaka22 call me old school but F1 is one sport where we don’t need changes in the race time, because it ruins the fun in watching the race. Furthermore the new generation may like this format, but those who have watched F1 for a very long time are bound not to like this format, and depending on whom F1 wants to please will we see these races being kept alive or discarded in the future.

Yes, there are very few Dakar followers, but on this occasion I just want to share a little news about a rider who has been in MotoGP who coincidentally for this year no longer has a team that wants to sign him as a mainstay rider.
Maybe it is also influenced by several aspects such as age, weight and also the talent that has decreased

I kinda liked the sprint races when it first came out since it was something new.  But now having seen it, I prefer the old format tbh.  And instead of messing around with the format, get the new engine specs in already...  2026 is way too far off.  The wait should better be worth it. Like they’re prolly finding a way to make those engines scream again?

Today there was a press confress and for the first time ever a Turkish driver will be racing in formula 2. He was in formula euro open series and all that but never really under the official foruma league. Cem Bolukbasi is his name, and I loved watching his streams, as I follow as many F1 esports streamers as I can, I watched him as well (still prefer lando, lol) and Cem wasn't even racing in real life at that time. He was just a streamer who was making a good amount of money, and played thousands upon thousands, probably over 10k+ hours on racing F1 game.

So to move from that into real racing, first given chances with different cars, and then last year with euro open series, and now this year with F2, that is going to be wild. Why is this so important? So far, you had to have karting and other experiences to get to F1, and you still do, but getting sponsors and money was a very hard thing.

What Cem showed us is that you could both learn to race with karting, but also stream and gain fans and be followed and that is how you could make your own money and invest into your career, and also get a lot of sponsors as well. Who wouldn't want to sponsor a driver who will be in formula and has 10k+ viewers each stream?

for the entertainment aspect i think sprint races are good you get a glimpse of the race plus you get to watch the chaos of the start one more time where cars are close to each other and everyone looking for a way to overtake and gain positions while its all cramped with other cars, also you get to watch qualification on friday the sprint on sunday plus saturday is the race because many find the free practice sessions are not exciting to watch so they skip watching f1 on friday.
next season we will have 6 races with sprint race which is going to be exciting to see in my opinion.

If Aston Martin had a car even capable of going further up the grid and Vettel is really as awful as you’re saying, don’t you think Stroll should be out performing him at every racing weekend?  I don’t think so...  Both drivers would’ve at least got their cars further up the grid.  And it’s not even open for debate.  Lol.  Aston Martin really did have a worse car than their Racing Point, Force India days.

^ Yes, you are right on those stats but overtakes are only one factor that determines how good a driver is. There are a lot of variables working on and off the track that are important too.
For example, pitting, team-calls, and also consistency and temperament are also very important factor that defines a driver. I'm not saying that overtake stats is totally irrelevant, but in order to justify how good a driver is, a lot of variables should also be taken under consideration.

That's kind of the problem though, it shows the dominance of the car when he got his championships. You could say the same with MSC and Hamilton, except they both won championships in another car. And were very competitive even with lesser cars. Vettel, less so.

Here’s the think with sprint races, it adds more risks to the drivers and to the car getting damaged or something.  We have seen anything of that sort happen last season but as it goes I’m pretty sure we’ll see some crash involving a couple of drivers or more who wouldn’t be able to race on race day...  Then it’s going to be another issue.

And I love qualifying and watching those guys battle for their spots at the grid.  There’s nothing like the last few seconds at Q3 and it’s just a couple of tenths between second and first.
