How to Build 186.6 MH/S 970 Watt power Ethereum , ETC , EXP mining rig

from midoprince

http://cryptocentral.info/topic/693/how-to-build-186-6-mh-s-970-watt-power-ethereum-etc-exp-mining-rig

There is a really common misunderstanding by miners, including the author of this article.

A PCIe riser works fine in the 16x slot.  The little 1x adapter board fits in the first part of the 16x slot. The notch fits perfectly and holds it in place. You just need to make sure you get it seated properly.

You never want to use ribbon cables. They are poorly made. The power to the ribbon cable is usually from a cable that is hot glued to the ribbon cable. You can see the globs of hot glue in the photo on the product picture for the 16x ribbon cable at Amazon. (I bought one when I was a newb too.)

+1

The best way to do it is to don't use any risers, but the conflict with this is that there is a maximum of 4 GPUs on the mobo with only a select number of mobo's.  The next best option is usb risers which add cost, but give the flexibility of having the GPUs off of the mobo.  After using ribbon risers, I would not use them anymore.  They are too fragile and unreliable.

In summary, go with the usb risers.

I sell risers so take what I say with a grain of salt... but why wouldn't you use risers? You can space your GPUs out better and get more airflow and lower temperatures.  Your GPUs will last longer.

Yes it means you need more power in your PSU as you need to power the risers but you can also fit 6 or 8 (yes some people do more than Cool cards per mobo/cpu/ram/ssd.  You get cost savings by running more GPU per mobo.

I have a rig with 5 gpus. All RX 480, diferent brand. 4 References + 1 Shappire Nitro HDMI plugged.

I bought a second hand XFX non reference 480 and after a hour plugged to this rig, Claymore's miner crashes and freezes. I changed its riser but I'm not sure if it can be for that or there is any problem with this XFX's card. Any help?

Thank you and thank you Claymore for your work.

That could definitely be a riser problem.

Also can your PSU handle the extra load?

You mine not ETH, but some fork. By default, miner mines ETH in devfee mode, so it has to re-build DAG because ETH and your coin use different epochs.
If you mine EXP, use "-allcoins exp". If you mine ETC - you can use pools that accept wallet address directly (i.e. pools that work without "-allpools 1" option).
If you mine some different coin, there is no way to fix it and you will lose about 10-15 seconds every hour for DAG recreation.
If your GPU is 2GB and it cannot handle ETH DAG - it will crash.
It your cards can mine ETH properly - try "-allcoins -1" so miner can detect correct DAG size at once (read Readme for details).

Please read Readme and FAQ in the first post of this thread before asking any questions, probably the answer is already there.

It takes a lot to build but not much to lose

This is a new error. Gotta mine buddy!!

2 Gig video card?

Nope.. Its happening to my RX480s on all 3 rigs at the same time.

I am using minigpoolhub with

EthDcrMiner64.exe -epool us-east.ethash-hub.miningpoolhub.com:17020
 -ewal blah.blah1
 -eworker blah.blah1
 -esm 2
 -epsw x
 -allpools 1
 -allcoins 1
 -r 0 -wd 1 -etha 0
 -wd 1
 -dbg 1 -lidag 0 -mport 4444.

it was working fine for last 2 months. suddenly yesterday I started getting restarts. Did something change yesterday? ETH shows epoch 96 tome there

any1 else have problems with fluctuating hash rates

one of my rigs is not working

hash rates are all over the place

with an average rate of 20mhs instead of 100+ (4 cards)

last time my miner did this it said

gpu0 has hanged
gpu1 has hanged
gpu2 has hanged
gpu3 has hanged

then it restarted and worked

Check your power supply. It might not be big enough. Or reduce the intensity for all the cards.

Claymore

Could you put devfee mining on pools that use username for login, like miningpoolhub, suprnova, etc. , like you have on the ZEC miner ?

That would be awesome.

Yes it's planned in upcoming release. Unfortunately, I had to postpone it a bit because I decided to release an update for XMR miner firstly (it will be released in 1-2 days).

Please read Readme and FAQ in the first post of this thread before asking any questions, probably the answer is already there.
