in America nobody (well, almost nobody) knows what GMT is...so GMT+8 means something close to nothing
however, google helps... Smiley
it is 8am pacific, 10am central and 11am eastern, correct

1. bitcointalk.org is not America  Tongue
2. Surely if someone can't work out the time from the OP/google/havingabrain then too bad they are too stupid to run a bitcoin miner Smiley

Its like an intelligence test

why so serious? it was just friendly banter...and TIC
yes, and bitfinex was also an intelligence test, and mt gox beforehand
maybe after a while not many people will qualify as being intelligent enough

don't you want to be as inclusive as possible?

Smileys hopefully indicated I was with you for the ride mate Smiley Just playful banter

OK, then.
it was more like a social commentary on my part, considering that OP was obviously from US, that's all.
there is almost nothing to discuss on this thread, apart from high prices and electricity costs.

Is it possible to modify the clock frequency of the S9? (I'd be interested in underclocking it)

yes you can.

I can plug in three or four sets of numbers to this calculator

https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator

and give you an idea.

If you mine at kano.is

price of coin stays the same.
Difficulty averages 2%
your power is 0.08 cents
in 407 days you will be even
in 530 days you will be ahead

price of coin stays the same
difficulty  averages 3%
your power is 0.08 cents
you will not break even

So a simple question is you power 8 cents?  If it is maybe you make money.

You say you have s-7's  so this means you have power supplies. Buying the s-9 is a tough cal if your power cost is 8 or more cents a k-watt in USA money.

Ah, silly me it's in the manual indeed:
https://www.bitmaintech.com/files/download/AntMiner%20S9%20Installation%20Guide.pdf

However they only indicate 550MHz / 600MHz / 650MHz. Are those the only options or could I enter, say, 333 MHz ?

I see a lot of miners say they have free power.  No one has free power.  Someone is paying for it, it's just not you.
In some cases that "someone" may not care that you are increasing their costs.  But my guess is those folks are few.
It's likely most are unwitting suppliers that would put a stop to it if they knew what you were doing with it.
I am not being high and mighty here.  I would probably take advantage of a small amount of "free" power myself.  It just irks me that some miners scream it like a badge of honor, when in many cases it's likely just theft.  Karma's a bitch.

nope....i have free power.....its not power at at someone house or any of that....its literally almost free because of the grant and subsidies the university gets because its a non proffit and because it is doing research on various things so yes normally it would be about .15 per kwh....but because of the other stuff that price gets offset. just thought i would throw that out there. if it was a landlord paying for my mining then i wouldnt be doin it but thats not the case with my setup. now thats not to say others arent using miners on a landlords dime but i cant speak for them just me.

Now that these new batches are shipping, finally consider getting one of these.

If I sacrifice speed and downclock what is the hottest ambient temp you can run an S9? My garage has a couple S7s  @ 550mhz that stay about 60C with 100F outside temp.  Summer is about over so I don't expect to have to fight temps much longer.

Gotta love Bitmain being in full control over new gear (NOT!).  I called it, they will drop prices like a rock as they get more units built and screw early investors.

I logged into my bitmain account for the first time in forever and made the mistake of seeing my old orders:  Batch 2/4 S7s for 5.8BTC & 4.4BTC respectively.  Hah!

The S9 is only 2.5BTC now but if I wait a couple months it makes me think 1.5BTC is plausible!

Very interesting.... Got my 2 batch 11's and took a look at them re: the mirco-SD slot. What do I see?

Bitmain has dropped using a Beagle Board. What on older batches was the IO board that the BB plugged into now has the ARM controller as part of it. In others words, no BB. Just the single combined ARM cpu and IO board. Also despite still having a slot in the case for a SD card, no socket for an SD card either.

Hmm.

Phil, @ 400MHz how much hash rate do you get? Does underclocking gain you much more efficiency or just for a longer lifespan of your miner? I have a hard time convincing myself to sacrifice the hash power they were designed to deliver.

Prices on miners from bitmain hardly went down after halving makes no sense roi a year before halving it was around 4 - 5 months on the miners I bought price needs to drop in half so roi is 5-6 months before I buy

Probably never happen

A Pacmic would be nice with S9 is that going to happen?

Batch11 on left, b5 on the right see something missing? Like the BB board?

Looking inside the b11 controller area. Note the ARM processor is now on the IO board

They actually do both, depending on whichever provides them the most profit with respect to exchange rate fluctuation.

Ja. They have been smoking these out the door. Nice that my 2 batch-11's even have sequential sn's. Don't see that too often from Bitmain.
