While I agree, that the trolling problem is out of hand, I think that punishing everyone who contributed constructively but didn't contribute such an arbitrarily-high number of posts is rather asinine and counterproductive to the forum's purpose (Bitcoin-related items). Here's my 0.02BTC:

1.) Give all new users a uniform number of posts (about 10-15) in the newbie and certain other select portions of the forum to prove that they can contribute to the forum constructively. After the number has been reached, they may be placed in a restricted View-only group
2.) If, either during or at the end of said posting limit, they prove to be good, constructive posters, they may be allowed full access to the forum.
3.) If, on the other hand, they fail to do so, they remain in the above mentioned View-only group indefinitely.
4.) Anyone who tries to dodge their failure to be allowed full access should be immediately be banned.

Mods, you realize this is going to completely sh1tcan the ability for newbies that really need help in one of the other forums form ever getting past stage 1, right??

i have a feeling once existing users get past this 50 post stage.. most of them i mean.. this place will calm right down
and become sane.

I don't feel like I'm ever going to get to 50  Sad

I know Sad I'm running out of threads to even pretend to be constructive in...

What you need is creativity and lateral thinking. Like that guy, with the ice. In that book of lateral thinking puzzles. I'm going to bed.

I'd like to be able to go to bed knowing that I'd be able to post in the regular forums when I wake up... >.> but that's still 25 or so minutes away and I'm tired

Dear admins, I'll pay you 0.001 BTC if you whitelist me.

Ok ok... 0.002 but no more. Address?

argh. I still can't post in the non-n00b forums. Dammit I've got a site to build. Ok ok I'll pay you 0.004. Look, I can keep this binary exponential bribe equation running for as long as it takes.

Do I hear 0.008?

WTF?  The only thing this is going to solve is to completely keep newbies from ever becoming anything but newbies.  How many people are willing to post 50 freakin posts in a newby section so they can actually ask the real question they have?Huh
If you make quality knowledgeable posts, we'll whitelist you early. The standards aren't that high, but you're not on a good start.

And then it'll just be five guys (ok, quite a few more than that) posting "Sup" back and forth 30 or so times until they say to hell with it

I love how Valalvax assumes a 1 post/minute rate until he hits 50. Determination indeed, lol.

I'm going to go ahead and apply for Whitelisted status...  it can't hurt.  I would ask that the mods look over my posts and see if I am worthy.  I would really appreciate not having to come up 35+ more non-absurd posts just to have access to the rest of the forum.

*crosses fingers*

Edit by Maged:
I looked back at your posts and I could tell that you could use some more time reading up on various things. You're almost there, though.

Well, I wasn't really trying there... I went to reply to the one post and it said there were two posts since I last posted... I thought for a second "Well, normally I'd go back, edit in whatever reply I have" but... yea... when your post count matters more than an e-peen meter, doing things like that slow you down...

I feel bad doing it though, I'd love to be able to only post where I see somewhere where I can either be helpful, or make a good addition to the conversation, but it might be 2 months down the line before I get to post somewhere else, especially considering I'd not really feel like coming around here often due to the limitations... I think I actually just spent 3 minutes typing that message heh

I think thats a great idea. Would give some funding toward the site and Bitcoin circulation is good for the economy.

If you like my post please feel free to give me some positive rep https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=18639

You need 50 posts to post outside, so just share and help others out. Its to stop spam.

You'd probably be better served posting in one of the many bitch-threads that have already been created.  Sad

Apparently the problem is that you did not troll enough to get 50 posts.

I mean, why would anyone post if there is no reason to post? Only answer is, to troll. So those who have less post than required, probably posted constructive stuff only and did not troll enough to be accepted to the main forums.

...and why it is nowhere near enough.

I just added up all the posts in this section, now keep in mind this excludes the ones the 4 mods have been deleting and the ones added while i was adding. and yet the number, in just 3 hours is already 634. This enthusiasm people have for wanting their bitcoin opinions to be heard is amazing.

Restrictions like that in the biggest forum are actually bad for the community. I just read an interesting discussion in the german board about financials, wanted to give my opinionen and registered only to find out that i cant reply. 50 posts ? Wow, sorry i have a live and will probably not reach 50 posts on this board this year.
This is not how a community should be run, there are much better ways to prevent spam...

I wouldn't really conclude that the massive post count here would be distributed throughout the board had this rule not been put in place. The post rate is due to people decreasing* their quality standards to get into the meaningful sections of this forum.

* Typo, indeed meant decrease. Thanks Valalvax.
