Although the post count thing seems a bit draconian, there's nothing stopping established members to post here too. 50 is a bit much, but a more organized forum experience is always great!

Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections.

Spam is irrelevant, trolls are inflammatory. This was not an issue of deleting Viagra adds. By the Mods own admission this was an issue of removing unwanted, but on-topic discussion.

Bitcoin.org forum discussion by it's very nature has a considerable effect on Bitcoin prices. It's not like anything clever was done or that journalists are not going to pick up on it- Bitcoin is hot and and they will jump on anything. Why give them something that juicy AND so negative to report on?

Temporary is a meaningless statement without a timeline, everything is temporary. The Patriot Act was temporary. The moderation team is seemingly quite happy with the current arrangement and is showing no particular sense of urgency to transition to a more open solution.

The mods wanted to silence (rather than waste time converting, persuading or simply ignoring) Bitcoin detractors. One of these detractors main arguments was that Bitcoin is a Ponzi scheme that rewarded early adopters at the expense of newcommers. So the Mods solution to this argument was to effectively filter out the critical questions of newcomers and limit substantive forum dialog to early adopters.

Brilliant bit of work there.

I fit that profile and still can't post.

Until that's resolved, could I get whitelisted? I think my prior posts speak for themselves.

I think it may take up to four hours for the board to update your member group. (Otherwise, maybe I have to do it manually with a cron job or something.)

The question you ask yourself if the goal of a poster is to detract and hurt the community and the system the community is trying to promote is it not in their best interest to get rid of him? If people are going to hurt you do you not protect yourself? I'm not referring to people who say "bitcoin is flawed, should have this change that change this."

And the Ponzi scheme argument was answered there is sticky about it. There is no need to repeat a question over and over again. Then the only purpose is subversion.

Also a Ponzi scheme involves the intention of inevitable crashing. And if you go by the idea what you cited is a Ponzi scheme. Capitalism is a Ponzi scheme.

No, the newbies and spam posts that occurred in other sections, were fear mongering troll posts to alert and grab attention. A dedicated newbie section, will have less of those posts, because there is no-one to scare or troll. Instead I would like a well balanced (idealistic maybe?) newbie section where people can ask questions and get to know the community and bitcoin. I'm very keen to answer questions and get users knowledgeable on Bitcoin. Yes, sometimes, there will be users who already know bitcoin, but haven't been board members, but then they just have to sit through it.

Frankly, I wish this section was here a few months back, because I struggled immensely at first to work out how Bitcoin and mining worked. If there was a section like this, that wasn't drowned out by established members, the point of entry is easier.

You shouldn't ignore the fact that some people really want to help others and get Bitcoin off the ground. I'm one of them, and will try to frequent the newbie section, because that's how we cultivate a community, by doing it grassroots. (I sound like a politician now, I know!)

I'm sorry, i can't tell if this is a joke but i will bit anyway.. um.. so you are honestly under the opinion that the people the trolls are scaring are the experienced veteran bitcoin users and project developers? and NOT the new users who are trying to figure all this out for the first time? do you have a train of thought to back this insight up with?

50 posts might be a bit excessive, but for the regulars it was becoming a huge turn off to the forums seeing the same crap posted over and over

N00b - Post Count 1: "Here is why bitcoin is flawed and definitely going to fail!"

N0oB - Post Count 1: "Omg help me build a mining rig to make magical moniez!"

No08 - Post Count 1: "Bitcoin is a ponzi scheme bubble you are all suckers if you buy in!!!"

|\|oob - Post Count 1: "I want to mine with my CPU, how much moniez will my CPU make me?"

etc. etc.

People who like to repeat the same thing over and over can still come here and chat with you guys. And really, why do you NEED to be posting in every forum within the first hour? The whole problem with people and bitcoin is that everyone wants everything NOW NOW NOW. Bitcoin is sort of a long-haul game, so this might be good to cultivate an attitude of patience. Still plenty of noob questions you guys can repeat over and over before you graduate, get it all out of your system.

EDIT: Also for noobs, they're probably less inclined to believe stuff posted in the Newbie Section, so "Bitcoins will be $7 by Monday" will have less power in the newbie section than the official economics sectin.
