Hi. Stumbled across bitcoin this week. I'm amazed. I've been reading these forums, and fooling around with some software. I don't want to speculate or hoard, I want to see bitcoin flourish thru broad acceptance. I'm not an anarchist but this is pretty legit.
Well, I can't believe it, but 500 posts ago I was just discovering bitcoin. This is the first online forum I've ever invested any time in at all, and it's been a great experience. In fact, I only planned on asking a few questions here, and the name "honest bob" was a joke from the start. The first thing I noticed here was the scammery. Turns out, this forum is the most useful place for a newbie to buy bitcoins. Bitcoin largely inspired me to choose computer science as my career; the technology is just that amazing--to think that 1s and 0s can revolutionize the way we think about money is mindblowing. Before I found out about bitcoin, I wasn't really into computers at all. Looking back at my old posts, I am reminded of how patient the senior members here have been with all of my silly questions and half-baked ideas. I do feel I have a pretty solid grasp of Bitcoin now. Because of bitcoin, I have learned/learned about: -SHA, RSA, MD5, etc. -PGP -Tor -VPNs and VPSs -Austrian economics (meh) -Linux (I made the full switch!) -Networking -the word "fungibility" -IRC -Poker -That gambling is not wise after all -day trading (meh) -arbitrage -and some other stuff To you newbies, don't let a few rotten apples ruin an otherwise very helpful, supportive, and friendly community. Don't get discouraged! The learning curve is steep right now, but it will be worth it in the long run. Don't trust anybody (you really can't hear that enough). When you do get scammed, don't give up on bitcoin. Thanks to all of you, Or at least most of you, Honest Bob.

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

been a lurker on this forum since may 2011 but i think it's time i can actually post something. Mining since may 2001 too at around 600 mh/s (2 6870's) Profit's from Bitcoin?....almost nothing a combination of high electricity cost, selling most coins back when they were $2 and losing coins with the Mr.moon scam and Bitscalper scam

Hello everyone!
Is there still room for one Finn miner? I'm doing ~82Mhash/H with my ATI HD 4870. So I'm asking what Ati card would be good for mining? I'm not going to spend 300€ for a card but about 200€ maybe would do the trick and makes my mining a bit faster.
Sincerly, defy

Hi! My name is Ryan. I've been working in Open Source Software for the past 12 years, most famously being the marketing rep for the US with OpenOffice.org. I'm a Stanford researcher in the Peace Innovation Lab and a Market/Crypto-Anarchist.
In the last few months, I've been spending a lot of time at 20Mission and getting to know Jered from Tradehill, JRO from Ringcoin and Charlie from BitInstant. I'm very excited about Bitcoin and am looking forward to announcing some projects I'm working on.
I thought it'd be cool to meet everyone on the forums.

and to use that opportunity to make two posts. one to comment on the topic, and one to actually introduce myself.
i'm mainly a seller of BTC. i prefer MP, but am open on occasion to other ways of payment.
i'm currently working on a project that will be unveiled in the next month or so that will allow you to shop at amazon using btc. stay tuned.

This is all very interesting. Saw a post on the OG (sub forum of The Underground MMA site) and thought this stuff sounded fascinating. As I am lurking I'm getting the feeling that I am too stupid to do this , lol. But I will keep reading and see what happens. Cheers
