Hi folks,  I am fairly new to the whole idea of bitcoins.  I was working on some hardware FPGA's, and came across some news items regarding FPGA's being used for bitcoins a few months ago.  I didn't have much time when the article came out, but now I have some more time to look into the whole concept.  I recently decided to spend more time investigating the protocols, clients, servers & economy created out of one persons' idea of an ideal currency.  I wanted to understand how it works and also try to predict the future direction.  The lack of a central authority is interesting, however, when money is involved, the state, courts & police have their roles to play, which seems to be missing - and I have am excited to find out what concept will take their place in the real world bitcoin community.
