Hi!

Been interested in Bitcoin as a phenomenon for a long time, but never got around to having the hardware to mine
or felt the need to trade. Coded some Bitcoin stuff, though, because that's interesting.

Very interesting

Howdy!

As the name implies, I'm a truck driver and a geek.  Used to be a network administrator, serious Linux freak, yadda yadda.  Getting into Bitcoin mining.  In my typical hacktastic fashion, I'm jamming a couple Radeon cards into an ancient Dell Poweredge 2800 server, which really isn't made for this sort of shenanigan.  I find that amusing.  The poor Poweredge is begging for more Astroglide, but that's another story entirely.

Being something of a hardware hacker, I've been looking at the FPGA miners and the backplane architecture of server hot-swap hard drives, and thinking the two really need to have a meeting.  How about an FPGA miner, that's roughly the size and shape of a regular 3.5" hard drive, include cooling fans and both power and USB connectors brought out the back as card-edge plugs, and a backplane that you can plug maybe 20 of the little buggers into.  Then you have one chassis with one USB connection to the host and one power connector to the wall (or a 12V battery, if you want to run solar or mobile or on a freakin boat or whatever)

Two LX150-3FGG484C FPGAs per card (~350MHash/Sec per pair) stacked 20 deep would give 8GHash/sec with 400 watts max consumption (plus the host).  Seems darned economical, in all ways including space.

I haven't delved too deeply into the bus architecture, but maybe sticking 10 on a card (probably about the size of a double-wide video card) would be more efficient, though more expensive per card.  $175 per chip gives $1750 and 2GH/S per card, at perhaps 80-100 watts including glue logic and fans and pretty blinking blue LED lights.

I'm just fighting my logorrhea right now. Cheesy

Hello all!

I'm not much for introductions, so I'll keep it quick. I'm just another newb among 1000s trying to get a handle on this whole bitcoin thing. I  think I'm getting the hang of it (I've spent the last few weeks riveted to the Wiki), but I definitely have a few technical questions. Hope to get those answered and then be a help to other newbies in the future.

long time lurker, first time poster! I have a little farm but summer is coming and i cannot take the heat. I am thinking about selling half of it but am not sure. FPGA is interesting but I am wondering what will happen in the future when it comes to bitcoin.

I would like to sell my 5970 while the price is high, but am still thinking about it.

I am running windows 7 and all is going well...I am just worried about the heat!

I think bitcoin may be heads for 7$ per again its already rose to 5.3 keep an eye on it watch it go up.  I am computing at about 1.3 -1.5 Ghash. So I may wait to see if it is going to go up any specualtion on prices?
